FUORICAMPO TEMPORARY SPACE IN BRUSSELS
2/4
Fortepiano
Serena Fineschi
opening 8 may from 6 p.m.
9 may - 24 may 2014
The FuoriCampo Gallery is proud to present, on Wednesday 8 May, its second scheduled show in the
temporary space in Brussels, at 49, Rue Léon Lepagestraat (Brussels).
The gallery will stage a solo show by Serena Fineschi, an artist who has taken part in the
FuoriCampo Artiste Domicilié(e) project, with the work she produced during her residency in
Brussels, as a house-guest staying with a local collector. Serena Fineschi’s works on paper (and in
paper) reflect the scope of her experience between darkness and light, between violent aggression
and unconditional love, as if, in the attempt to take possession of the work, there lies its hidden,
evocative power that is inextricably bound up with the performance act that created it. In this way, it
erases the formal boundary between brutality and care, between the all-consuming will to possess,
and the desire to give oneself, voluptuously attacking the material in order to achieve a new
grammar of sculpture, putting the artist in the same dimension as her work. Everything melts away
in dynamics that set out from an inspired mental slip-up that traverses the body, and that re-issues
from the body in the form of spirit, without alibis or filters, in an action that holds the opposing
principles in balance, an equilibrium between the marks made, and that which is left over.

Artiste Domicilié(e) is a residence programme for artists in Europe. This project, set up with the participation of Siena’s Candidacy as
2019 European Capital of Culture. Artiste Domicilié(e) gives a new dimension to the concept and practice of artists-in-residence, a dimension which finds its place in the most intimate form: an invitation in which the artist will stay at the home of the collector, creating
an opportunity for both to share their work and their individual habits. It is a different interpretation of residence, halfway between
patronage and a private commission; however, it is not geared simply toward possession of the work, but inspired by the
understanding and the intellectual affinity that is established in frequenting each other on a daily basis.
