COMPETITION CALL FOR THE ADMISSION TO THE SECOND YEAR OF THE 6-YEAR SINGLE-CYCLE DEGREE COURSE IN MEDICINE AND SURGERY OF THE “A. GEMELLI” SCHOOL OF MEDICINE – A. Y. 2014/2015 Article 1 – Number of available positions A public competition has been opened at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, concerning the academic year 2014/2015, for admission to the second year of the 6-year single-cycle Degree course in Medicine and Surgery for the following number of positions: • n. 2 places limited to non-EU citizens non residing in Italy; Article 2 – Requirements and documentation for the admission to the test Requirements May take part to the admission test candidates that satisfy all the following requirements: • Candidates holders of a high school leaving certificate. Candidates with less than 12 schooling years are required to provide a certificate of partial university studies or nonuniversity post-high school studies (exams passed and official documentation on course contents) to complete the missing schooling years of the diploma. • Students enrolled at least to the first year of a degree course in Medicine and Surgery; • Students enrolled to other Universities must have taken the following Disciplines: - Medical Physics General Chemistry Biology At least 2 other Basic Science Disciplines Documentation (mandatory for the admission to the test) The following documentation must be sent attached by email to th [email protected] no later than September 8 2014 (within 2.00 pm Italian GMT) . • photocopy of high-school leaving certificate; Pagina 1 di 14 • “academic eligibility” (Idoneità Accademica) test pass certificate if required to enroll at university in the candidate's country; • statement of validity (Dichiarazione di valore) ; The Dichiarazione di Valore (DV) is an official document which provides a short description of your qualification, its validity in the awarding country to academic and/or professional ends, and the legal status of the awarding institution. PLEASE NOTE: The DV is issued by the Embassy of the country educational system that awarded the qualification. For example, if you live in Ghana but you have studied in a British school, you should refer to the Italian Embassy in the UK. • • • • • transcript of marks; certification of attendance to the lectures (if expected in applicant’s University); curriculum syllabus (University letterhead); photocopy of passport english language certification, satisfying the following minimum scores: ACADEMIC IELTS = 6.0; TOEFL IBT = 80; TOEFL Computer Based =213; TOEFL Paper Based = 550; CAMBRIDGE ESOL FCE Grade B All candidates are required to provide the English Language Certification. Are exempted from producing the English Language Certification, only candidates who have attended an English speaking Medical School. The above-mentioned Certifications with the relative minimum score indicated will be the only ones accepted. Please Note: All the documents in foreign language must be accompanied by an official Italian translation. Official translations are at the applicant's expenses. In Italy, applicants can refer to the local Court (Tribunale di zona) and ask for official sworn translators, or to the Consulates or Diplomatic Delegations of the country that issued the certificate. Pagina 2 di 14 Article 3 – Date and venues of the admission test The admission test will take place on Monday September 22nd 2014 at the premises of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore located in the city of Rome at the following address: Largo Francesco Vito 1 - 00168 Roma, and in the foreign test-center indicated in “Annex A” of the present Competition Call. The University reserves the right to modify the venue arrangements, should this be required for organizational reasons or due to a non-sufficient number of candidates in any of the foreign testing sites indicated. Furthermore the University reserves the right to modify the date of the admission test and the registration time, due to any organizational reasons. Applicants will be promptly notified of any changes. On the day of the test candidates who have chosen Rome must present for registration at 2.00 pm. Candidates who have chosen among the foreign test-center will receive an email (at the email address indicated in the application form) three days before the test with written address and registration time. In order to be admitted to the test, from July 22nd 2014 to September 8th 2014 (within 2.00 pm Italian GMT) applicants must comply with the procedure indicated below: • fill in the application form (“Annex B” of the present Competition Call) and send it attached together with all the documents listed under Article 2 of the present Competition Call, by attached email to [email protected]; • within few days we will send you, to the email address indicated in the application form of “Annex B”, the International Bank Transfer details to make the payment of € 160. • to finalize application candidates must pay a contribution for public competition expenses of €160 (one hundred and sixty), no later than September 12th 2014 within midnight (Italian GMT); The payment will validate the admission to the test. Article 4 – Candidates with disabilities In accordance with Law no.104, February 5th 1992 and as modified by the Law n. 17/1999, candidates with disabilities must send a certification and formally request any means of support/help, to the following email address: [email protected] no later than September 8th 2014 (within 2.00 pm Italian GMT) . In accordance with Law n. 170/2010, candidates suffering from Learning Disabilities and Disorders must send a certification and formally request any means of support/help, to the following email address: [email protected] no later than September 8th 2014 (within 2.00 pm Italian GMT) and they will have 30% additional time to complete the admission test. The Commission reserves the right to conduct the checks of the certifications provided and will evaluate the requests of further support/help. On the day of the test candidates with Learning Disabilities and Disorders and are kindly required to bring along with them the certification in the original form. Article 5 – Admission Admission to the second year of the 6-year single-cycle Degree course in Medicine and Surgery is subject to: a) Score obtained from the educational qualifications: The exams previously taken will be validated by the Commission. To each validated exam the Commission will assign CFU (University Formative Credits) according to the exams of the first year of Medicine and Surgery a.y. 2013/2014. All the CFU assigned to the validated exams will be added up and converted in 75 points (maximum 61* (75/61) = 75 points). First year exams - degree course in Medicine and Surgery a.y. 2013/2014: • • • • Introduction course to medicine (6 CFU) Molecules and cells (29 CFU) Electromagnetism and physiology of excitable cells (3 CFU) Organic and functional systems I (16 CFU) Pagina 4 di 14 • • • • • First aid and nursing practice I (2 CFU) Residency in health center (1 CFU) Optional project I (1 CFU) Vertical domain I (1 CFU) Italian language (2 CfU) on decision of the Commission, the admitted students will have to take the missing exams in accordance with the first year study plan of Medicine and Surgery. b) Score obtained from the written test: o 1 point for each correct answer; o minus 0.25 point for each wrong answer; o no points for no answer. The score of the test will be converted in 25 points (maximum 100 points * 0.25 = 25 points). The final score will be determined by adding the scores of a) and b) for a maximum of 100 total points (75 points + 25 points = 100 points). Article 6 – Written test and contents The lists of the testing venues and classrooms at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Rome, as well as of the foreign testing sites indicated in “Annex A” of the present Call will be made public on September 17th 2014 on the Faculty boards and on the website http://roma.unicatt.it . On the day of the test, candidates must bring their passport (mandatory for Non-Eu candidates). Candidates with disabilities or Learning Disabilities and Disorders are kindly required to bring along with them the certification in the original form. It is forbidden for candidates to bring into the classroom or to the seat assigned bags/briefcases, mobile phones, tablet, calculators, books and notebooks. Candidates arriving at the testing venue after the completion of the registration operations will not be allowed to sit for the test. Pagina 5 di 14 The written test consists of 100 multiple choice questions divided as follows: • 95 on psycho-attitudinal subjects (logic, visual space reasoning, text understanding, attention and precision, numerical reasoning, problem solving); • 5 on religious culture. Candidates have 100 minutes to complete the test. Article 7 – Results of the written test The results of the written test will be published on the boards of the “A. Gemelli” School of Medicine and on the website http://roma.unicatt.it by September 26th 2014. In case of a tie, will prevail: - The candidate with the highest score obtained from the educational qualifications; - The candidate with the highest score obtained at the written test; - The youngest candidate; Article 8 – Enrolment procedures and documentation for admitted candidates Procedures From the date of the publication of the rankings to October 3rd 2014 (within midday Italian GMT), admitted candidates must pre-enroll completing the procedure indicated below: a) pay the first University fee instalment, amounting to € 4.000 no later than October 3rd 2014 (within midday Italian GMT). The sum of € 4.000 shall in no case be reimbursed. The International Bank Transfer details will be sent to the email address indicated in the application form. b) send a copy of the payment receipt of the first University fee instalment attached by email to [email protected] no later than October 3rd 2014 (within midday Italian GMT). Candidates that do not comply with the provisions a) and b) indicated above by the deadlines indicated in the present Article shall be considered as 'withdrawn'; vacant places shall be made available to other candidates according to merit ranking. Certificate of Mantoux-technique tuberculosis test, as indicated in the health provision no.17712/1998 (State-Regions Conference); the test shall be conducted in a public structure; 12. Clergy are requested to provide a declaration from their superior authorizing the enrolment at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore; 13. Candidates already enrolled at other universities have to provide, besides the above indicated documentation, the transfer request statement issued by the original University.
