The Asclepio Ensemble strives to unite members of the University Hospital of Padua in the
pursuit of musical excellence and cultural enrichment, to inspire and renew its audience and
members. It was founded in 2013 by physicians interested in performing classic music and
thereafter recruited medical students and doctors in training.
The Asclepio Ensemple now entails 25 musicians with a wide range of performing experiences,
from serious amateurs to conservatory-trained professionals. All share a passionate quest of the
expression of beauty and perfection through music.Musicians may turn to a career in medicine
for a variety of reasons. As medical students, they often find that their passion for musical
exploration seamlessly translates into the pursuit of medical knowledge. These students begin to
think of their medical training as another form of art.
With this in mind, the Music and Medicine Initiative at University Hospital of Padua,
spearheaded by Alois Saller, MD, PhD and supported by Dr. Claudio Dario, general director of
the hospital allows these physicians to continue to enjoy their musical life. The program
emphasizes continued academic excellence with the added opportunity to practice music as a
balance to a busy academic life.
