Nurturing Design Sciences
with Humanistic Knowledge
General PhD Course 2014
Subject
The course offers an overview on the
Polytechnic Humanistic Knowledge and its
contributes and exchanges with the Design
sciences (Design, Planning, Architecture,
Engineering).
These contributes are framed in three levels of
mutual interactions:
- design on humanities. Themes and topics
of Humanistic Design (ambits that are
acknowledged object of study of humanistic
disciplines and have become areas of design
research and intervention -some of them are
financed by EU calls on SSH): i.e.
“space/environment liveability”, “cultural
heritage, museums, landscape”, “lifestyle, and
innovation trajectories”, “artefacts, interactions, interfaces”…
- design with humanities. Methods and tools
of Humanistic Design (projects and applications of instrumental use of the humanistic
discipline and knowledge within the design
process): i.e. “social and ethnographic research”, “scenarios design”, “visualisation techniques”, “business design” “future studies”…;
- design of humanities. Approaches of
Humanistic Design (themes and tools intertwined through a meta-design reflection).
