IEFE and Société Generale have organized an international conference on the
increasingly difficult relationship between fossil-fuelled and renewable generation
in the European electricity markets.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the even more complex relationship between gas
and renewables, regarding which the “CCGTs affair” represents one but not the only
key issue (e.g. distributed generation as a game changer). The conference pursues a
European perspective and pays particular attention to those markets (Italy, Germany,
Spain and UK) currently being particularly affected by the RES vs. fossil fuels debate.
The conference will address the main economic and regulatory issues from various
perspectives, beginning with the regulatory and academic views.
The focus will be on market design: e.g. what are the main challenges of a RES and
gas-fired generation’s coexistence? How should market design and regulation help
meet these challenges?
A roundtable with CEOs and senior executives from key industry stakeholders
will follow, bringing the view of leading companies to the debate.
The conference will conclude with remarks from the President of the Italian Energy
Authority.
