Course Syllabus
Ⅰ. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for beginners who have never learned Chinese before. It aims at learning
basic pronouncing and writing rules of Chinese (Mandarin) language and developing elementary
communicative skills and knowledge of the Chinese language and culture.
Ⅱ. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course the student should be able
 to grasp the pronunciation and intonation of pinyin (the phonetic system of Chinese);

to know expressions of greetings, how to introduce himself and his family;

to deal with situations that are likely to arise while traveling in an area where the Chinese
language is spoken, such as shopping, ordering dishes in restaurants etc.;

to have a basic understanding of the structure and the meaning of common Chinese characters
(ideograms) .
