EU-U.S. Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership

Clingendael Institute and Ecorys Academy cordially invite you to:
“Getting a grip on the EU-U.S. Transatlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership”
This seminar aims to help business people, public officials and other professionals
to better understand the political and economic context surrounding the most ambitious trade agreement ever contemplated.
BACKGROUND
In his last State of the Union address President Obama announced his administration’s
intention to sign a Trans-Atlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership (TTIP) with the European Union. This partnership could have an
enormous impact on the future competitiveness of the United States and Europe. TTIP
could provide a major boost to growth and
jobs on both sides of the Atlantic. Furthermore, TTIP is a unique opportunity to tackle
remaining trade barriers. Such an agreement,
including Non-Tariff Measures (NTM’s) like
regulatory divergences and differences in
standards, may be a game changer. Negotiations between the two trading powers started
in the summer of 2013.
SEMINAR OBJECTIVES
To better manage the multiple opportunities
and challenges likely to emerge as a result of
TTIP, business entrepreneurs and other
stakeholders will be required to stay ahead of
the curve and have a good understanding of
the context and potential outcomes of such an
agreement.
This seminar also takes a look at the bigger,
geopolitical picture. Although mainly economic
in nature, TTIP has significant political and
strategic consequences. If successful, TTIP
may recalibrate the global balance of power to
the West’s advantage.
Specifically, it will provide three important insights into:
1. the geopolitical context of TTIP and the
complex multi-party negotiation landscape;
2. the expected impact of TTIP for the U.S.,
EU and rest of the world;
3. the regulatory changes anticipated (standards) and the practical implications for
business entrepreneurs.
