Ângela Guimarães Pereira–
short CV
Ângela Guimarães Pereira works at the Joint Research Centre of
the European Commission, holding a PhD on Environmental
Systems and its Tensions. In 1996 she started working at the JRC
in European projects focusing on environmental and societal
issues, future oriented activities and integration of information
technologies with public engagement. Her work has been inspired
by the post-normal science ideas developed by Ravetz and
Funtowicz in the 1990s. At the JRC she currently works on
knowledge assessment and ethics of ICT, critically investigating their governance and
correspondence with current innovation narratives. She is developing the concept of
“ethics dialogues” as experiential ways of implementing the lemma of Responsible
Research and Innovation. She has organised several training courses including on public
engagement, science communication for public engagement, and knowledge assessment
methodologies. Her current interests lie on science history and ways of knowing; her
favourite story is H. C. Andersen’ “the emperor’s new clothes”.
