Introduction to Supersite
Please visit Blackboard and start with the Introduction to Supersite, where you will find a link to
enroll in your instructor’s section on the Supersite. Once you complete the steps in the
Introduction Module, you are ready to officially begin the course.
!
!
Supersite Assignments
I will assign Supersite activities online for each lesson (Lección). Some of the assigned activities
will be graded as credit/no credit, and others will be graded out of 100%. These assignments
will have a due date by them. The combined total of all activities for each lesson will be your
final grade for Assignments. No late work can be accepted. Supersite assignments are worth
20% of your course grade.
!
!
!
!2
Attendance and Class Participation
!
Attendance and active participation are essential for success in this course, and are worth 20%
of your course grade. If you make your best effort to speak Spanish in class and participate
actively in class activities, you will learn more deeply and quickly, and can expect to earn most
of the credit for your course grade in this area. Active class participation will also help prepare
you for the final oral role play.
!
!
Participation and Class Contributions will be evaluated as outlined below:
5 points: arrived on time with textbook and other materials and attended full class period;
participated actively and focused on class activities; attempted to speak Spanish whenever
possible
3 points: arrived late; arrived without textbook or other materials, was not always active and
focused; did not attempt to speak Spanish whenever possible
0 points: absent or more than 10 minutes late; disengaged and/or disruptive to the learning of
others
!
Please silence your cell phone during class. Laptops should not be used except when invited to
do so by instructor.
!
Quizzes (Minipruebas)
The quizzes online for each Lección, or “Minipruebas,” will help you know if you are ready for
the chapter test and help you target what you need to practice or study more. You get full
credit for the quizzes if you complete them, and no credit if you do not complete them. The
timer on the Supersite will give you a good idea if you can complete the chapter test within
the 40 minutes you will have in class. You should aim to take no longer than about 30 minutes
online for each quiz.
No late quizzes can be accepted. If you have been granted an extension on the due date of a
quiz for a medical reason with proper documentation, you must make arrangements with me to
make up the quiz within 4 days of your absence. Quizzes are worth 10% of your course grade.
Tests (Pruebas)
We will have 7 chapter tests during the semester. The tests will cover material from class and
will be similar in format and content to the assignments for each chapter.
If you have a documented medical or other emergency you must make arrangements to make
up the test within 4 days of your absence. You cannot make up an exam if you simply fail to
show up in class on the test day. Tests are worth 40% of your course grade.
!
!
Final Oral Role Play
You will have a Final Oral Role Play with a partner and your instructor on the day of your
scheduled final exam. The Final Oral Role Play is designed to evaluate how well you can
communicate in Spanish using the vocabulary and phrases we have learned during the
semester. You will speak with a class partner as you act out a situation related to the chapter
topics. The Role Play will be graded on the basis of how well you are able to use the Spanish
we have learned as well as how well you use communication strategies to get your ideas
across. You will have opportunities to practice in class during the semester.
!3
The Final Oral Role Play is worth 10% of your course grade.
!
!
Final Exam
We do not have a comprehensive written final exam, but we will do the Final Oral Role Play
during our scheduled final exam period. If you miss the Final Oral Role Play, it cannot be made
up. Note the date and time of the final exam for your section of 1101-050: Tuesday May 12
from 2:00pm to 3:50pm.

Excessive help from Spanish-speaking friends, co-workers or relatives. Excessive help is

while asking friends or relatives who speak Spanish to explain a particular grammar
point is tolerable and even encouraged, it is not acceptable for that person to offer an
entire phrase or sentence for you.
•
Receiving help on any exam or quiz or using notes or other aids during a test in class.
