Parish News and Upcoming Events
Join the Team
If you can give some time to share your faith with
the children of St. Mark’s parish, please consider
volunteering to become a Catechist. Recruiting
Catechists is one of the most difficult challenges of
parish life yet the success of our CCD program is
because of our dedicated and wonderful team of
teachers! We have class times on Sunday morning,
Monday afternoon and evening, and Tuesday
afternoon. We need teachers for all grades in pre-K to
Kindergarten, and 1st to 8th. You do not need teaching
experience to volunteer. We will train you here at
St. Mark’s this fall, preparing you to teach the children
our faith and to receive the Sacraments. If you are
hesitant to make a full-time commitment, we have
team-teaching opportunities where you may share class
time with another teacher. We also need teachers’
aides and substitute teachers.
For CYO teens and National Honor Society
candidates, we have some excellent assignments for
service hours. One of them is to take photos at the
different class activities from September to May.
It’s a volunteer assignment but you will get a byline for
the photos used in the bulletin which can help build a
portfolio for college applications.
Please call Mrs. MaryAnn Hirsch for details at
732-449-6364 ext. 105. Also, CCD parents, please
send in your child’s 2015/2016 CCD application as
soon as possible, especially if you would like to enroll
your child on a specific day. You will receive an e-mail
with your child’s assigned day and time. Classes begin
the week of Sunday, September 27th!
Save the Date! St. Mark's Altar Rosary will have its opening
mee ng on Monday, September 14th. Welcome back to all
the members! Newcomers are very welcome, too! Our new
president is Judith Gibson and our new Vice President is
Helen Hopkins. Barbara Kane con nues as our Treasurer
and Carol Morris as our recording secretary.
Please Wait
Please do not leave clothing donations over the
summer for our Spanish community. There are no
volunteers on hand (until a date announced in
September) who are able to receive and sort your
donations.
Unfortunately, if clothing donations are left on
Church property or in the bins marked for other
donations, they will be discarded. Thank you for your
understanding.

gently travel through the healing process.
If you are interested or would like more information,
please contact Susan Nolan at 718-637-1162 or Peg

Faith to Move Mountains Campaign
To all of the good people of St. Mark’s,
Over the past few weeks, I have shared informa on about a
major endowment campaign underway at St. Mark’s and
throughout the Diocese of Trenton. This week I will be
sharing the next ini a ve of the Faith to Move Mountains
Campaign for the Diocese and our parish:
Ordained Ministry: With approximately 170 priests serving
more than 800,000 Catholics within our Diocese, every priest
is essen al, and building the number of priests in
ac ve ministry has never been more important. Below is
how the Diocese plans to ensure that every one of our
parishes within all four coun es has the pastoral support
they need to serve future genera ons of Catholics:
ReƟred Priests: One of the greatest needs of the Diocese is
the care for re red priests, especially the infirmed and those
requiring acute care, which costs the Diocese over $50,000
per priest. In the next 10 years alone, 44% of our current
priests will be eligible for re rement. This will require an
addi onal $800,000 each year to provide care for those who
have dedicated their lives to their parish communi es. Amid
increasing healthcare costs, we must be prepared to meet
growing demands by increasing the current endowment for
our re red clergy. This will provide a renewed opportunity
to give back to our priests who have given so much to us.
Seminarians: The extraordinary news is
that our current class of seminarians has
grown to more than 30 men! Bishop
O’Connell has set the goal of bringing that
number to 50 seminarians in forma on
over the coming years. This growth will
present a welcome challenge, as the cost to educate one
seminarian is approximately $40,000 per year for five years
of post-college educa on. Recognizing the seminaries’
indelible impact on our Church, the Diocese will establish a
priestly forma on endowment to address these growing
costs.
Deacons: With more than 300 deacons currently in service,
the Diocese of Trenton has been blessed with one of the
largest diaconate programs in the country. As the need for
permanent deacons con nues, so too must the Diocese’s
investment in preparing men that can support our priests
and minister to their congrega ons with engaging homilies,
sacramental prepara on and spiritual direc on.
In the coming weeks, I will con nue to share further details
about how the campaign funds will directly impact both our
Diocese and our community here at
St. Mark’s. Everyone will soon be invited to par cipate in
this effort. In the mean me, anyone is welcome to approach
me before or a er Mass with any ques ons you may have.
Thank you for your con nued prayers and support!
God Bless,
Monsignor Sean Flynn
