Dr. María José Guerra will be presenting the lecture “Bioethics, justice and
vulnerability: gender and interseccional approaches” (Bioética, justicia y vulnerabilidad:
del género a las perspectivas interseccionales) on June 10th at 10am.
María José Guerra is Professor of Moral Philosophy in the University of La Laguna,
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. She has published Mujer, identidad y reconocimiento.
Habermas y la crítica feminista (Woman, Identity and Recognition. Habermas and the
Feminist Critique) Instituto Canario de la Mujer, 1998, Teoría feminista
contemporánea. Una aproximación desde la ética (Contemporary Feminist Theory. An
Ethical Approach), Madrid. Editorial Complutense, 2001, y Breve introducción a la
ética ecológica ( A Brief Introduction to Ecological Ethics), Madrid, Antonio Machado
Libros, 2001, several works in different international and national philosophical
journals as Isegoría, Bioethics, Daimon, Theoria, etc. and different chapters in
collective works. She has co-edited Mujeres, espacio y tiempo (Women, space and time)
Instituto Canario de la Mujer, 1999, and Globalización y neoliberalismo: ¿un futuro
inevitable? (Globalization and neoliberalism: an inevitable future?) Oviedo, Nobel,
2002. She has been as Visiting Scholar in the New School for Social Research, NYU
(1997), and in the Center for European Studies of Harvard University (1998). Her
research´s projects has been involved with contemporary moral philosophy, feminist
theory and applied ethics, especially environmental ethics and bioethics. Currently she
coordinates a research project titled “Justice, citizenship and gender. Feminization of
migrations and human rights” (FFI2011-24120) supported by the Minister of Economy
and Competitiveness of Spanish Government.
Dr. Helena Legido Quigley will be presenting her lecture “Austerity measures and
their impact in health: the European and Spanish cases” (Medidas de austeridad, e
impacto en salud: el caso europeo y español) on June 12th at 11:45 am.
Helena Legido-Quigley is an Associate Professor at the National University of
Singapore and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She has conducted
research on European health policy, quality of health care, health systems, chronic
conditions, and migrant populations. Her latest research focuses on the impact of the
financial crisis and austerity measures on health and health care systems. Her work has
been published in peer reviewed journals such as the Lancet, British Medical Journal
and PLOS Medicine. It has also been widely covered in International media including
the Economist, the Financial Times, the Guardian, the New Scientist, and Huffington
Post.
