G-SEC に つ いて 慶應義塾大学グローバルセキュリティ研究所（G-SEC, Global Security Research Institute）は，世界の変化を先取りし，現代社会が直面する諸課 題の中から，今日的課題として研究が望まれる課題を学術研究の対象と する研究所です。科学技術とイノベーション，エネルギー・環境問題， 安全保障，ヒューマン・セキュリティなど，地球規模のみならず，個人 の生活レベルにも影響を及ぼす現代の諸問題に幅広く取り組み，これら に関わる政策，さらには政策提言や，客観的評価の創出を視野に入れて， 研究を行っています。 このような課題に効果的に取り組むためには，学問領域横断的な連携， グローバルな視点での学術研究機関・専門機関との協力が未来に向かっ てその目的を果たすものと考えられます。G-SECは，従来の個別研究プ ロジェクトで構成する研究センターを発展的に改組し，大学内の教育研 究機関と密接かつ有機的な連携のもと，国内外の大学，研究機関，営 利・非営利法人等との研究ネットワークを構築し，先端的学術研究の推 進を目的として，2004年6月に設立されました。 G-SECは，世界の持続的発展に貢献するため，グローバルな視点から， 基礎研究・応用研究における国際的水準の学術研究の発展に寄与すると ともに，その知識を蓄積し，成果として内外に広く公表し，発信します。 Keio University Global Security Research Institute (G-SEC) is a research institute that seeks to anticipate changes in the world and study new challenges that have arisen in contemporary society. Keio University covers a wide range of current issues, including those concerning science technology, innovation, energy, the environment, and security, (including human security). In its research activities the Institute examines those policies relating to issues that have a global impact and influence the lives of individuals everyday. G-SEC is a research institute that seeks to anticipate changes in the world and study new challenges that have arisen in contemporary society. The Institute looks to engage on current issues with a view to generatingobjectiveassessmentsand policyrecommendations. To tackle these problems effectively interdisciplinary collaboration as well as global alliances amongst academic research institutes and specialized organizations will be instrumental in realizing productive results. In June 2004, G-SEC began anew with an aim to reassess the concept of the conventional research institute. The G-SEC mission now incorporates the traditional research center comprised of cutting-edge research projects with a focus on building collaborative networks with other institutions. These include close and dynamic engagement with Keio University’s other academic research groups, other national and global universities, research centers, private companies and nonprofit organizations, with an eye on pushingforwardcutting-edgeacademicresearch. From a global perspective, G-SEC will continue to encourage the advancement of basic and applied academic research. I believe G-SEC plays an important role as a point of intersection between Keio University and the broader world. I am proud to say that gradual improvements have been made at G-SEC since I became Director in November of 2006, and we now has more to offer to researchers and society. Keio University is home to researchers that work in very diverse fields, but I believe that the greatest common endeavor shared by us now is “watch and warning.” G-SEC has many research projects underway in which the underlying task is for researchers, in their respective capacities as specialists, to carefully monitor (watch) market trends, policy developments, environmental issues, and a host of other phenomena, and then inform (warn) others of their findings. We have made significant progress towards improving the quality of research and advanced education at GSEC. Since 2007 we have held the “Watch & Warning” Seminar in conjunction with other annual conferences, and in 2009 G-SEC began a new endowed lecture series. Since 2011 we have held “investigation and verification” as a top priority issue that would be the start point for innovation and improvement. We announce our research results to society officially through a symposium, research center opening to the public, book publication and a Web site and share them. We shall continue to enhance the quality of research at the Global Security Research Institute in order to create a more synergistic relationship with Keio University and the world around it, a relationship in which society benefits from the excellent research resources of Keio University and the University benefits from the wisdom that the larger society has to offer.
