Nevertheless, a variety of writing activities can be used to help students learn language and improve their listening, speaking, and reading skills. I will first talk about the relationship between writing and speaking and provide examples of writing activities that can be used to promote a great quantity and quality of oral output. I will then explain why writing can be used expedite vocabulary, grammar, and formulaic language learning, particularly in the context of listening and reading activities, which often do not require output or a focus on form. Examples of activities tied to listening and reading texts will be shown. 略歴：ポリオ教授は第二言語習得研究（特に第二言語ライティング）で世界的な権威で、昨年まで国際雑誌 Annual Review of Applied Linguistics の編集長、現在は国際雑誌 Modern Language Journal の編集長を務めている。第二言語ラィティングの研究方法や評価方法、ラィティングと第二言語習得、教師教育に関心があり、これまでの研究は、Language Learning、Studies in Second Language Acquisition, Modern Language Journal, Journal of Second Language Writing, TESOL Quarterly, Language Teaching Research 等世界的な国際雑誌に掲載されている。
