Plzeň založil král Václav II. v roce 1295 na soutoku čtyř řek:
Radbuzy, Mže, Úhlavy a Úslavy. Dnešní Plzeň má rozlohu
téměř 140 km2 a žije zde více než 167 tisíc lidí. Je sídlem
biskupství a univerzity. Na staré řemeslné a obchodní tradice
navazuje bezpočet podniků, jimž vévodí Škodovka a Plzeňský
Prazdroj. Ve sportovním světě šíří slávu města FC Viktoria
a HC Škoda. A milovníci kultury míří do Plzně za bohatým
spektrem festivalů, do muzeí, klubů, do divadel, kin, galerií
i za množstvím open-air akcí. Díky tomu všemu bude Plzeň
v roce 2015 Evropským hlavním městem kultury.

my name is Pilsen!
Pilsen was founded by the King Wenceslas II in 1295 at the
confluence of four rivers: Radbuza, Mže, Úhlava and Úslava.
Today’s Pilsen spans the area of almost 140 square kilometres
and it has over 167,000 inhabitants. It is home to the bishopric
and the university. Old craft and mercantile traditions are built
upon by a number of businesses, mainly Škoda and Pilsner
Urquell. In the sporting world, the fame of Pilsen is spread wide by
FC Viktoria and HC Škoda. The lovers of culture arrive in Pilsen
to attend various festivals, clubs, theatres, cinemas, galleries or
a number of open-air events. Thanks to this, Pilsen will become
the European Capital of Culture in 2015.

Pilsen wurde im Jahr 1295 von dem böhmischen König Václav II.
am Zusammenfluss von vier Flüssen – Radbusa, Mies, Úhlava und
Úslava – gegründet. Das heutige Pilsen nimmt eine Fläche von
nahezu 140 km2 ein und hat mehr als 167 Tausend Einwohner. Die
Stadt ist Bischofssitz und verfügt über eine Universität. Zahlreiche
der heute in Pilsen ansässigen Unternehmen – allen voran die
Škoda-Werke und die Pilsner-Urquell-Brauerei – knüpfen an alte
Handwerks- und Handelstraditionen an. In der Sportwelt kann
sich Pilsen mit Mannschaften wie FC Viktoria und HC Škoda
rühmen. Kulturliebhaber lockt das breite Spektrum an Festivals,
Museen, Clubs, Theatern und Galerien wie auch die Vielzahl an
Open-Air-Veranstaltungen. Aufgrund dieses vielfältigen Angebots
ist Pilsen 2015 Kulturhauptstadt Europas.

Japan Fest 2015 (duben–říjen)
Festival Japan Fest 2015 odkazuje
k partnerství Plzně s japonským městem Takasaki, které trvá už čtvrt století.
V průběhu celého roku nabídne program prezentující špičku japonské kultury: divadlo, koncerty, filmy, výtvarné
výstavy a výstava bonsají a suiseki atd.
Během června proběhne reprezentativní
výstava Šo – Mistři současné japonské
kaligrafie. Multimediální umělec Ryoji
Ikeda představí v červenci v Novém divadle svůj originální projekt Test Pattern
(N°7) a vrcholem festivalu bude vystoupení předního japonského symfonického orchestru Kyoto Symphony Orchestra 3. června v Měšťanské besedě.
Bavorské kulturní dny
(20.–26. 4.)
Týdenní festival představí současné
bavorské umělce a projekty česko-bavorské kulturní spolupráce. Ve Velké
synagoze vystoupí pěvecký sbor Dom-
spatzen z Regensburgu, v hudebních
klubech pak další bavorští hudebníci.
V kreativní zóně DEPO2015 proběhne
výstava Domus – poutní místo designu,
taneční představení, česko-německé
divadlo, autorské čtení, workshopy pro
školy atd. Festival ukončí symbolický
svátek Květiny pro Plzeň jako poděkování za přeshraniční spolupráci.

designu (22. 4.–30. 11.)
V hale DEPO2015 vznikne unikátní
instalace – prostorová skulptura osobností současného evropského designu
(foto 1). Německý autor Werner Aisslinger pracuje s návrhem uzavřeného
meditativního prostoru, Jiří Příhoda
mění perspektivu pohledu na prostor
i samotnou instalaci výstavy. Další velké
originální objekty připravují Henry Wielgus s Janem Plecháčem a Maximem
Velčovským. Instalace přináší zážitek ze
spojení fyzického s duševním.

The programme of the European Capital
of Culture serves candies
The exceptional year 2015 brings a number of remarkable culture
projects. Some have a long tradition, some come as complete
novelties. They have one thing in common though: they connect
Pilsen and Europe, or the world at large. And they all bring to Pilsen
culture candies to be savoured by the locals and guests alike.
Japan Fest 2015
(April to October)
Japan Fest 2015 refers to the partnership
between Pilsen and the Japanese city
of Takasaki which has been lasting for a
quarter of century already. Throughout the
year it will offer a programme representing
the very top of Japanese culture: theatre,
concerts, films, exhibitions or art, bonsais
and suiseki etc. In June there will be a
representative exhibition Sho – Masters,
dedicated to the contemporary Japanese
calligraphy. Multimedia artist Ryodi Ikeda
will present, in June in New Theatre, his
original project Test Pattern (N°7) and the
festival will culminate by a performance of
the leading Japanese symphonic orchestra
Kyoto Symphony Orchestra on June 3 at
Měšťanská beseda.
Days of Bavarian culture
(April 20 to 26)
A week long festival will present contemporary Bavarian artists and projects of
Czech-Bavarian cultural partnership. The
Great Synagogue will see a performance
of a choir from Regensburg, other Bavarian musicians will perform in music clubs.
The creative zone DEPO2015 will host
the exhibition of Domus – the Design
Place of Pilgrimage, dance performances,
Czech-German theatre, reading by authors,
workshops for schools etc. The festival
will be closed by the symbolical feast
Flowers for Pilsen as thanks for crossborder partnership.
Domus – the Design Place
of Pilgrimage
(April 22 to November 30)
DEPO2015 will host a unique installation
– a place sculpture of major European
designers (photo 1). German designer
Werner Aisslinger works with a project
of a closed meditative space, Jiří Příhoda
changes the perspective of space and the
very installation of the exhibition. More
original objects are being developed by
Henry Wielgus with Jan Plecháč and Maxim
Velčovský. The installation brings a unique
experience combining the body and spirit.

Das Programm der Europäischen
Kulturhauptstadt serviert echte Leckerbissen
Das Ausnahmejahr 2015 wartet mit mehreren bemerkenswerten
Projekten auf. Manche haben eine lange Tradition, andere sind etwas
vollkommen Neues. Eines aber haben sie gemeinsam: die Verbindung
Pilsens mit Europa beziehungsweise der Welt. Und alle bereichern sie
Pilsen um echte kulturelle Leckerbissen, die Einwohnern wie Gästen
der Stadt munden werden.
Japan Fest 2015 (April–Oktober)
Bayerische Kulturtage
Das Festival „Japan Fest 2015“ verweist
auf die Städtepartnerschaft zwischen Pilsen
und dem japanischen Takasaki, die bereits
ein Vierteljahrhundert währt. Im Rahmen
des ganzjährigen Festivalprogramms
werden Spitzenleistungen japanischer
Kultur geboten: Theater, Konzerte, Filme,
Kunst-, Bonsai- und Suiseki-Ausstellungen
und vieles andere mehr. So findet z. B.
im Juni die repräsentative Ausstellung
„Sho – Meister der japanischen Gegenwartskalligraphie“ statt, im Juli stellt der
Multimedia-Künstler Ryoji Ikeda im Neuen
Theater sein originelles Projekt „Test Pattern (N°7)“ vor. Höhepunkt des Festivals
ist jedoch ein Auftritt des weltbekannten
Kyoto Symphony Orchestra am 3. Juni im
Kulturzentrum Měšťanská beseda.

bayerisch-tschechischen kulturellen
Zusammenarbeit vor. So tritt in der
Großen Synagoge der Knabenchor
„Regensburger Domspatzen“ auf und

bayerische Musiker zu Gast sein. Im
Kreativgelände DEPO2015 finden die
Ausstellung „Domus – Wallfahrtsort des
Designs“, Tanzaufführungen, tschechischdeutsches Theater, eine Autorenlesung,
Workshops für Schulen und vieles andere
statt. Das Festival endet mit dem symbolischen Fest „Blumen für Pilsen“ – als
Dankeschön für die grenzübergreifende
Zusammenarbeit.

Domus – Wallfahrtsort des
Designs (22. 4.–30. 11.)
In der Halle des Kreativgeländes DEPO2015
wird eine einzigartige Installation entstehen: eine Raumskulptur von Meistern
des europäischen Gegenwartsdesigns
(Foto 1). Der deutsche Künstler Werner
Aisslinger arbeitet dabei mit dem Konzept eines geschlossenen meditativen
Raums, der Tscheche Jiří Příhoda wird
die Perspektive auf den Raum wie auch
die Ausstellungsinstallation als solche
verändern. Weitere große und originelle
Objekte werden von Henry Wielgus und
Jan Plecháč wie auch von Maxim Velčovský
gestaltet. Die Installationen versprechen
ein Erlebnis, das auf einer Verbindung
von Physischem und Seelischem beruht.

365 dnů v roce
Čestmír Suška: reSTART
(26. 4.–31. 12.)
S okamžikem otevření kreativní zóny
DEPO2015 rezonuje výstava Čestmíra
Sušky s příznačným názvem reSTART
(foto 2). Světově uznávaný sochař se
věnuje tvorbě soch z vyřazených kovových objektů. Část vystavených objektů
se stane součástí dalších akcí.
MagdaClan Circo:
Era – Sonnet for a Clown
jde několika smysly. Zvukové prožitky
doplní prožitky vizuální, ale také čisté
emoce jako strach či smích. K vidění
bude sled úžasných kousků, které divákům berou dech.
Khamoro (26.–28. 5.)
Nejznámější romský festival na světě
přinese výtvarné a taneční workshopy,
výrobu šperků nebo základy romských
dějin či jazyka. Divadelní představení
ukáže problémy, s nimiž se Romové

Sokolský slet (27.–28. 6.)
Prostor v programu města kultury mají
i Sokolové a jejich slet. Nejstarší z nich
na něm ve světové premiéře uvedou
svoji moderní choreografii „Nejsem
sám“. V ní se představí na pět set seniorů z celé republiky.
Rock for People Europe
(3.–5. 7.)
Mladý italský cirkus MagdaClan (foto
3) a jeho představení je první společnou prací čerstvých absolventů školy
nového cirkusu. Diváci se mohou těšit
na projekt nabitý energií, silný příběh
protkaný důmyslnými akrobatickými
kousky a intimními gesty.
Zážitek z představení nového cirkusu
Bêtes de Foire, tedy Pouť zvířat, pro-
vypořádávají dodnes. Festival zakončí
jedlá instalace obřího dortu Mandala
a galakoncert romských kapel (foto 1).

Speciální evropská edice oblíbeného
letního hudebního festivalu se odehraje v areálu DEPO2015 a okolí řeky
Radbuzy. Představí se zde špičkové
kapely ze všech 28 členských zemí
Evropské unie, a to nejen objevy z velkých, ale i menších a showcaseových
akcí. Mezi potvrzenými formacemi jsou
například nestárnoucí němečtí Guano
Apes, rakouští pionýři elektroswingu
Parov Stelar nebo angličtí hitmakeři

The exhibition of Čestmír Suška, entitled
reSTART (photo 2), resonates with the
moment of opening the creative zone
DEPO2015. The globally-renowned sculptor
makes sculptures from discarded metal
objects. Some of the sculptures displayed
will become parts of other events.
MagdaClan Circo: Era – Sonnet
for a Clown (May 13, 15 to 18)
Young Italian circus MagdaClan (photo
3) and his performance is the first joint
partnership of fresh graduates from the
school of new circus. Spectators can
look forward to a project full of energy, a
strong story interwoven with sophisticated
acrobatics and intimate gestures.
Bêtes de Foire
(June 14 to 19 and June 24 to 28)
Experiencing the performance of Bêtes de
Foire new circus troupe will touch several
senses. Audio experience is complemented

by visual, but also by pure emotions such
as fear and laughter. There will be a series
of astonishing acrobatics that will leave
spectators breathless.
Khamoro (May 26 to 28)
The most famous Roma festival will bring
art and dance workshops, jewellerymaking and lectures on the foundations
of Roma history and language. A theatre
performance will show problems that Roma
people meet even today. The festival will
be closed by an edible installation of a
huge Mandala cake and the concert of
gypsy bands (photo 1).
Sokol Gathering (June 27 to 28)
Sokols and their gathering have their
place in the programme of the Capital
of Culture. The oldest among them
will present, in the world premiere, his
modern choreography “I am not alone”.
It will feature five hundred seniors from
all over the country.
Rock for People Europe
(July 3 to 5, 2015)
A special European edition of the popular
summer music festival will take place at
DEPO2015 and around the Radbuza
river. It will feature top bands from all
twenty-eight EU member countries,
not just from large, but also smaller and
showcase events. The already confirmed
performers include the non-ageing Guan
Apes of Germany, Austrian pioneers of
electro swing Parov Stelar or the English
hitmakers The Ting Tings.
Čestmír Suška: reSTART
(26. 4.–31. 12.)
Mit der Eröffnung des Kreativgeländes
DEPO2015 ist eine Ausstellung des
tschechischen Künstlers Čestmír Suška
zu sehen, die den bezeichnenden Titel
reSTART trägt (Foto 2). Der weltweit
anerkannte Bildhauer kreiert Skulpturen
aus ausrangierten Metallobjekten. Einige
der Ausstellungsobjekte werden Teil
weiterer Aktionen sein.
MagdaClan Circo: Era – Sonnet
for a Clown (13. und 15.–18. 5.)
Die Vorstellung des jungen italienischen
Zirkus MagdaClan (Foto 3) ist die erste
gemeinsame Arbeit der frischgebackenen
Absolventen einer Cirque-NouveauSchule. Die Zuschauer können sich auf
ein energiegeladenes Projekt und auf eine
starke, von ausgefeilten Akrobatikdarbietungen und intimen Gesten durchwobene
Geschichte freuen.
Bêtes de Foire
(14.–19. 6. und 24.6.–28.6.) Die Cirque-Nouveau-Vorstellung der
Gruppe Bêtes de Foire spricht mehrere
Sinne an. Visuelle Erlebnisse werden
durch akustische Eindrücke, aber auch
durch reine Emotionen wie Angst oder
Lachen ergänzt. Zu sehen sein wird eine
Folge verblüffender Kunststücke, die den
Zuschauern den Atem rauben.
Khamoro (26.–28. 5.)
Das bekannteste Romafestival der Welt
erwartet seine Gäste mit Workshops zu
bildender Kunst und Tanz, Schmuckherstellung und Grundlegendem zu
Geschichte und Sprache der Roma. Eine
Theateraufführung spricht Probleme
an, mit denen sich die Roma bis heute
konfrontiert sehen. Ausklingen wird das
Festival mit einer essbaren Installation:
einer riesengroßen Mandala-Torte sowie
einem Galakonzert mit Romabands (Foto 1).
Sokolfest (27.–28. 6.)
Einen Platz im Programm der Kulturhauptstadt Europas haben auch die
Mitglieder der Turnbewegung Sokol und
ihr traditionelles Fest. Die ältesten von
ihnen führen in einer Weltpremiere die
moderne Choreografie „Nejsem sám“
(„Ich bin nicht allein“) auf. An dieser sind

Rock for People Europe
(3.–5. 7. 2015)
Auf dem Gelände DEPO2015 und in der
Umgebung des Flusses Radbusa wird eine
spezielle europäische Version des beliebten
Sommermusikfestivals stattfinden. Hier
stellen sich Spitzenbands aus allen 28
Mitgliedsstaaten der Europäischen Union
vor, und zwar nicht nur Entdeckungen
aus großen, sondern auch aus kleineren
Showcase-Veranstaltungen. Bereits fest
eingeplant sind zum Beispiel die ewig
junge deutsche Rockband Guano Apes,
die österreichischen Elektroswing-Pioniere
Parov Stelar oder die englischen Hitmaker
The Ting Tings.

Every country has its symbols. The Czech ones include the Pilsener
lager – Pilsner Urquell, a beer that has inspired two-thirds of all
pilseners brewed over the world. So if you visit Pilsen, do not miss
a tour to the brewery where this beer has been made, according to
well-tested recipes, for over 170 years.

Visit the authentic places in the brewery
where the golden lager Pislner Urquell
has been made since 1842. During the
tour you will learn about the history of
the brewery, will visit the historical and
contemporary brewhouses, the modern
bottling line and the brand new exhibition
People at Pilsner Urquell. The tour will
naturally close by a visit to the historical
cellars where you can taste the nonfiltered Pilsner Urquell, draught directly
from the oak lager barrels (only for those

If you like history and want to learn just

Oslavy osvobození americkou armádou
mají v Plzni pětadvacetiletou tradici.
Po čtyřiceti letech překrucování historických faktů a popírání účasti amerických
vojsk na konci války se v roce 1990
město nadechlo a vykřiklo do světa, jak
to bylo doopravdy. A od té doby tu patří Slavnosti svobody k největším akcím,
které se konají každým rokem.
I letos přijedou na začátku května poslední žijící američtí a belgičtí veteráni
s rodinami. Znovu půjdou ulicemi, jimiž
tehdy projížděli a jako každoročně tu zažijí bohatý program. V neděli 3. května
se rovněž zúčastní fascinujícího Convoy
of Liberty na Klatovské třídě, jejž tvoří
stovky historických válečných vozů s posádkami v dobových uniformách. Kromě
nich v konvoji pojede i současná technika české armády.
Autentickou atmosféru května 1945 navodí i vojenské tábory s ukázkami zbraní,
techniky a běžného života, veselice, výstavy, dobové trhy nebo swingové tan-
čírny. Scénky rekonstruující historické
události připomenou nálet na Koterov,
zrod rozhlasového vysílání nebo fotbalové utkání mezi plzeňskou Viktorií a americkými vojáky.
Návštěvníci, kteří chtějí o Američanech
v Plzni vědět přece jen víc, mohou zajít
do Patton Memorial Pilsen. Jeho expozice mapuje postup a pobyt americké
armády v Československu 1945 i další
období. K vidění tu je dobová výstroj a výzbroj včetně předmětů denní potřeby.
Chybět nebude ale ani současnost. Tu
zastoupí koncerty folkových a rockových
kapel. Vyvrcholením pak bude megakoncert skupiny Lynyrd Skynyrd v pátek
1. května.

Pilsen will remember 70th anniversary
of liberation
The largest Czech city which was liberated in 1945 by the U.S. Army
will celebrate the liberation anniversary in a monumental manner. In
the first week of May the city will travel in time and will be enlivened
by the authentic atmosphere of coming freedom with historical
military vehicles, swing music and war veterans.
The celebration of freedom has a tradition
of twenty-five years. After forty years of
rewriting history and denying the presence
of U.S. soldiers, the city breathed fresh air
in 1990 and shouted to the world how it
was in reality. Since then the Celebrations
of Freedom have belonged among the
largest events held every year.
This year, too, the remaining living U.S.
and Belgian veterans will arrive with their
families in early May. They will walk the
streets through which they drove back
then and – as every year – they will enjoy
a rich and varied programme. On Sunday,
May 3, they will take part in the fascinating
Convoy of Liberty at Klatovská Avenue,
consisting of hundreds of historical military vehicles and their crews in historical
uniforms. These will be joined by today’s
vehicles of the Czech Army.
The authentic atmosphere of May 1945
will only be strengthened by military
camps with demonstrations of weapons,
equipment, common life, feasts, exhibitions or swing dancing halls. Scenes
reconstructing the historical events will
commemorate the raid on Koterov, the
birth of radio broadcast or the football
match between the U.S. soldiers and
Victoria Pilsen.
Memorial Pilsen. Its exposition maps
the advance and stay of the U.S. Army in
Czechoslovakia in 1945, as well as other
periods. Historical equipment is on display,
including the objects of everyday use.
The present is represented too, namely
by concerts of folk and rock bands, with
headliners Lynyrd Skynyrd performing
on Friday, May 1.
The Celebration of Freedom will start on
April 30 and run till May 6.

Mit einer großen Feier gedenkt Pilsen des
70-jährigen Kriegsendes
Vergnügungen, Ausstellungen, zeitgenössische Märkte oder Tanzveranstaltungen
mit Swing-Musik bieten. In nachgestellten
historischen Szenen wird zum Beispiel
an den Luftangriff auf Pilsen-Koterov,
die Geburtsstunde des Tschechischen
Rundfunks Pilsen oder ein Fußballspiel
zwischen der Pilsner Fußballmannschaft
Viktoria und amerikanischen Soldaten
erinnert.
Die größte 1945 von den Amerikanern befreite tschechische Stadt
feiert den Jahrestag des Kriegsendes mit einem wirklich großartigen
Fest. In der ersten Maiwoche wird sich Pilsen in die Zeit vor siebzig
Jahren zurückversetzen und mit historischen Militärfahrzeugen,
Swing-Musik und Kriegsveteranen die authentische Atmosphäre der
wiedererlangten Freiheit heraufbeschwören.
Die Feier zum Jahrestag der Befreiung
durch die amerikanische Armee hat in
Pilsen bereits eine fünfundzwanzigjährige
Tradition. Nachdem die historischen Fakten
vierzig Jahre lang verfälscht wurden und die
Beteiligung der amerikanischen Truppen
am Kriegsende geleugnet worden war, holte
die Stadt 1990 tief Luft und schrie in Welt
hinaus, wie es sich wirklich zugetragen
hatte. Seitdem gehört das Freiheitsfest
zu den größten jährlich stattfindenden
kulturellen Ereignissen der Stadt.
Auch in diesem Jahr kommen Anfang Mai
die letzten noch lebenden amerikanischen
und belgischen Kriegsveteranen mit ihren
Familien nach Pilsen. Erneut gehen sie
durch die Straßen, durch die sie damals
gefahren sind, und wie jedes Jahr erwartet
sie hier ein reichhaltiges Programm. Am
Sonntag, dem 3. Mai, werden sie sich an
dem faszinierenden Convoy of Liberty auf
der Klatovská-Straße beteiligen, der aus
Hunderten historischer Militärfahrzeuge
mit Soldaten in historischen Uniformen
besteht. Im Konvoi wird zudem auch
moderne Technik der tschechischen
Armee zu sehen sein.
Zur Wiederbelebung der authentischen
Atmosphäre vom Mai 1945 tragen u. a.
Militärcamps bei, die neben Vorführungen von Waffen und Technik auch einen
Einblick in das damalige Alltagsleben,
Besucher, die über die Amerikaner in
Pilsen noch mehr wissen möchten, können in das Patton Memorial Pilsen
gehen. Die dortige Ausstellung gibt
einen Überblick über Vormarsch und
Präsenz der amerikanischen Armee
in der Tschechoslowakei des Jahres
1945 wie auch über die Folgezeit. Zu
sehen sind zeitgenössische Waffen und
Ausrüstungsgegenstände, einschließlich
Alltagsobjekten.
Doch auch die Gegenwart wird bei der
Feier vertreten sein. Zum Beispiel in Form
von Folk- und Rockbands. Den Höhepunkt
bildet hierbei ein Megakonzert der Gruppe
Lynyrd Skynyrd am Freitag, dem 1. Mai.
Das Freiheitsfest beginnt am 30. April
und dauert bis 6. Mai.

narozeniny. Už od roku 1995 si je připomíná Historickým víkendem (foto 1),
jenž ve třídenním programu nabízí
hudbu, tanec, divadlo a především aktivní zapojení svých účastníků. Letos
jím ožije prostor okolo kašen a sadový
okruh od Branky po Mlýnskou strouhu.
Na hlavní scéně proběhne setkání panovníků, kteří s Plzní souvisejí. Chystá

years in mid June. Since 1995 this anniversary has been celebrated by the Historical
Weekend (photo 1) which, during three

fountains and the municipal park circuit
from Branka to Mlýnská strouha will come
to life during the event. The main scene
will see the meeting of kings who have

sich auf drei herausragende Ereignisse
freuen, die im Gelände DEPO2015, in

Eröffnet wird das Festival „Tanec Praha“

Himmel Pilsens 17.6.–25. 7.
Jahr für Jahr wird an einem interessanten
Ort im Pilsner Stadtzentrum ein attraktives
Theaterstück aufgeführt. Nach klassischen
Stücken kommen in diesem Jahr die
Horrorkomödie „Prokletí rodu Baskervillů“
[Der Fluch des Hauses Baskerville] mit
Sherlock Holmes und Doktor Watson
oder das Stück „Pozor, zlý pes!“ [Vorsicht,
bissiger Hund!] an die Reihe. Gespielt
wird zudem eine Aufführung aus dem
vergangenen Jahr, und zwar Goldonis
„Lügner“ (Foto 3) mit dem tschechischen
Schauspieler Roman Zach in der Titelrolle.

Bohemia Jazz Fest

A festival of jazz music under the open sky
is in its tenth edition already so this year
it will have an atmosphere of celebration.
Its first evening, held in Pilsen, will present
the winner of the JazzPrix competition,
jazz groups from Norway and Germany
and the leading American saxophonist
Ravi Coltran will receive the Bohemia
Jazz Award. Bohemi Jazz Fest is held in
the squares of many Czech cities where it
brings interesting jazz musicians from the
Czech Republic and abroad. Admission

Léto v Besedě

Vnitroblok Měšťanské besedy se secesním pavilonem se

Es gibt Abende, da hat man keine Lust, zu
einer kulturellen Veranstaltung zu gehen,

bietet sich ein Beisammensein auf den
Terrassen der Pilsner Restaurants oder
im schön rekonstruierten Mühlgraben

Divadelní představení patří k Plzni po staletí
V rámci Evropského hlavního města kultury 2015 se letos uskuteční mimořádný
ročník loutkářského festivalu Skupova Plzeň. Proběhne před mezinárodním
festivalem Divadlo, čímž se září promění doslova v měsíc divadla.

a okénkem do zahraniční tvorby, patří
k významným středoevropským akcím

padesát souborů z dvou desítek zemí
celého světa. A jiné to nebude ani letos.
Náročné publikum se opět dočká toho
nejlepšího, co česká divadla v uplynulé
sezoně uvedla, i pozoruhodných titulů
z dílny zahraničních souborů. Velký prostor patří tradičně divadelníkům ze zemí

Jakkoli bude září měsícem zasvěceným
divadlu, nebude divadlo tím jediným, co
Plzeň v této době nabídne. S končícím
létem se lidé opět budou moci rozloučit
prostřednictvím festivalu minipivovarů
(foto 2), na němž se každoročně představují pozoruhodné produkty z různých koutů Česka. K ochutnání tu bude
na dvě stě značek z produkce sedmi
desítek minipivovarů. Akce se koná
v Plzni – Černicích a vedle piva nabízí
i vystoupení kapel a tanečních skupin, prohlídky místního pivovaru a lázní
nebo pivní soutěže.

and Nori Sawa will present a remarkable
performance combining shadow play,
Japanese puppet theatre and classical

Josef Skupa’s flat will be a part of the

Sun in the Glass
September 19
As September will be a month dedicated
to theatre, theatre will not be the only
thing on offer in Pilsen at that time. A
festival of mini-breweries will provide
an opportunity to say good-bye to the
departing summer, as it does every year,
presenting remarkable beers from all over
the Czech Republic. There will be two
hundred beer labels from around seventy
mini-breweries (photo 2). The event is
held in Pilsen – Černice and besides beer
will offer live performances by bands and
dancing groups, excursions to the local
brewery and bath, or beer competitions.

Alternativtheaterstücke aus allen Teilen
der Welt. So kommt z. B. das einzigartige, zwischen experimentellem Theater
und Bewegungstheater angesiedelte
finnische Projekt Depart nach Pilsen.
Das JT Biohistory Center Tokyo und
der ebenfalls aus Japan stammende
Künstler Nori Sawa beeindrucken mit
einer originellen Aufführung, die Schattenspiel, japanisches Puppentheater und
klassisches Musikkonzert verbindet. Das
Festival umfasst zudem eine Ausstellung
von Puppen nach Motiven eines Freskos
von Jiří Trnka, welches sich ursprünglich
in der Wohnung Josef Skupas befand.

Internationales Theaterfestival

Das Theaterfestival (Foto 1, 3), das ein
Aushängeschild des tschechischen
Theaters wie auch ein Fenster zum
internationalen Theaterschaffen ist,
gehört zu den bedeutendsten mitteleuropäischen Veranstaltungen seiner Art.
Während seines einundzwanzigjährigen
Bestehens hat es bereits über hundertfünfzig Ensembles aus mehr als zwanzig
Ländern nach Pilsen geführt. Und auch in
diesem Jahr wird das nicht anders sein.
Ein anspruchsvolles Publikum kann sich
abermals auf das Beste freuen, was in der
vergangenen Saison an tschechischen

Theatern aufgeführt wurde. Und auch auf
bemerkenswerte Inszenierungen aus der
Werkstatt ausländischer Ensembles kann
man gespannt sein. Viel Raum gehört dabei
traditionell Theaterschaffenden aus den
Visegrád-Staaten, d. h. aus Tschechien,
Polen, der Slowakei und Ungarn. Das
Begleitprogramm des Festivals wird auch
in diesem Jahr Ausstellungen, Gespräche
und Workshops umfassen.

Auch wenn der September ein Theatermonat ist – Theater ist nicht das Einzige, was
Pilsen in dieser Zeit zu bieten hat. Von dem
ausklingenden Sommer kann man sich wie
jedes Jahr auf dem Kleinbrauereifestival
„Sonne im Glas“ (Foto 2) verabschieden,
das bemerkenswerte Erzeugnisse aus verschiedenen Gegenden der Tschechischen
Republik vorstellt. Dort kann man nahezu
zweihundert Biermarken von ca. siebzig
Kleinbrauereien verkosten. Die Veranstaltung findet im Stadtteil Pilsen-Černice statt
und bietet neben Bier auch Auftritte von
Bands und Tanzgruppen, Besichtigungen
der örtlichen Brauerei und der örtlichen
Bäder sowie Bierwettbewerbe.

Večer ožívají kluby i bývalé průmyslové prostory
Plzeň je letos
Evropským hlavním

je i městem se
silnou průmyslovou

dvě tváře nemusejí
vůbec jít proti sobě:

A samozřejmě
nejen ony.
Plzeň je univerzitním městem a to se
odráží i na hudebním a tanečním životě. Centrum města je plné klubů, z nichž
každý nabízí něco trochu jiného.
Hudební kluby
Anděl Music Bar v Bezručově ulici
se zaměřuje na atraktivní muziku mimo
hlavní proudy. Alternativní hudební scéna a mladé kapely mají domovské právo
v Divadle pod lampou (foto 2) v Havířské ulici. Milovníky jazzové hudby zase
potěší Jazz Rock Café v Sedláčkově
ulici. Velmi dobré kapely podobných
žánrů vystupují také v House of Blues.
Zach´s Pub, klub naproti OC Plaza, patří k nejmenším plzeňským klubům, ale
jeho nabídka je jednou z nejatraktivnějších. Jen pár kroků odtud, v Kollárově
ulici, leží Buena Vista Club (foto 1).
Ten nabízí koncerty především rockové,
ale i taneční zábavu, filmové projekce či
divadelní představení.
Kam za tancem
Přímo v centru funguje po celý týden také
řada tanečních klubů. Za návštěvu určitě stojí klub PH+ v Kopeckého sadech,

sousední Mefisto, Žumberská stodola v Bezručově ulici nebo Pantheon
Music Club na Anglickém nábřeží.
Industriální prostory
Zajímavé programy v netradičním prostoru nabízí objekt Papírna u řeky Radbuzy. Hostí hudební i taneční festivaly,
proběhla tu PechaKuchaNight, konají
se zde koncerty i divadelní představení.
Vše v syrové atmosféře opuštěné tovární haly.
Kulturní akce se odehrávají i v prostoru
DEPO2015 (foto 3), které se do budoucna promění v prostor pro kreativní
byznys, inkubátor a dílny. Už letos se zde
budou scházet kreativní lidé se skvělými
nápady, které právě tady budou moci realizovat. Bude se tu prezentovat světová
špička v oblasti designu, kvalitní hudební
produkce, zajímavá komunitní a interaktivní výstava a mnoho dalšího.

Pilsen is the European Capital of Culture this year, but, historically,
it is a city with a strong industrial tradition. In recent time, it is more
and more evident that these two aspects do not necessarily be in
contrast: the abandoned premises of former factories spring again
to life with culture. And not only them.
Music clubs
Anděl Music Bar in Bezručova street
specialises in attractive music outside
mainstream. Alternative music scene and
young bands have their home in Divadlo
pod lampou (photo 2), Havířská street.
Lovers of jazz music will be happy in Jazz
Rock Café, Sedláčkova street. Very good
bands of similar genres can be also seen
in the House of Blues.
Zach’s Pub, a club just opposite OC
Plaza, belongs among the smallest Pilsen
clubs, but its offering belongs among the
most attractive ones. Buena Vista Club
(photo 1) is just a few steps away, in Kol-
lárova street. This venue offers mainly rock
concerts, but also dance opportunities,
screening of films or theatre performances.

There is a number of dance clubs directly
in the centre. PH+ in Kopeckého sady is
definitely worth visiting, as are the neighbouring Mefisto, Žumberská stodola
in Bezručova street or Pantheon Music

Jazz-Fans treffen sich im Jazz Rock

Bands ähnlicher Genres treten zudem

Der gegenüber dem Einkaufszentrum
Plaza gelegene Zach´s Pub gehört zu
den kleinsten Clubs in Pilsen, sein Angebot
ist jedoch eines der attraktivsten. Nur
wenige Schritte entfernt, in der Kollárova
Pilsen ist in diesem Jahr Kulturhauptstadt Europas, historisch ist es jedoch auch eine Stadt mit einer starken industriellen Tradition. In letzter
Zeit zeigt sich immer deutlicher, dass diese beiden Gesichter einander
nicht ausschließen müssen: Verlassene Industriegelände ehemaliger
Fabriken werden zu kulturellen Räumen. Und nicht nur diese.

Einen Besuch wert sind sicherlich der
Club PH+ am Kopecký-Park (Kopeckého
sady), das benachbarte Mefisto, der Club
Žumberská stodola in der BezručStraße oder der Pantheon Music Club
am Englischen Ufer (Anglické nábřeží).
Industriegelände
Interessante Programme in einem unkonventionellen Raum bietet die am
Fluss Radbusa gelegene Papierfabrik
(Papírna). Diese ist Gastgeber von
Musik- und Tanzfestivals, Konzerten
und Theatervorstellungen, und auch die
PechaKuchaNight fand in diesem Gebäude
statt. Alles in der kargen Atmosphäre
einer stillgelegten Fabrikhalle.
Kulturelle Veranstaltungen gibt es zudem
im DEPO2015 (Foto 3), einem ehemaligen Depot der Pilsner Verkehrsbetriebe,
das sich künftig in einen Inkubator für
Kreativbusiness verwandeln und Raum für
Werkstätten bieten wird. Bereits in diesem
Jahr kommen hier schöpferische Menschen
mit guten Ideen zusammen, die sie gerade
hier umsetzen können. Präsentiert werden
u. a. die Weltspitze des Designs, hochkarätige Musikproduktionen, eine interessante
interaktive Gemeinschaftsausstellung und
vieles andere mehr.

CZ/ Poklona velkým jménům
Plzeň vzdává hold třem svým světoznámým rodákům
Malíř Gottfried Lindauer, designér Ladislav Sutnar a loutkář Jiří Trnka se narodili
v Plzni, ale proslavili se v rámci celého světa. Ve výtvarném umění zanechali
významnou stopu, kterou nyní reflektují tři velké výstavy.
Říká se, že doma není nikdo prorokem. Gottfried Lindauer
(foto 3) by o tom mohl vyprávět. A vlastně i bude. Tedy nikoli
on osobně, ale výstava, která je tomuto plzeňskému malíři novozélandských Maorů věnována. Bude k vidění od 6. května
do 20. září v Masných krámech. Zatímco v českých zemích je
znám stále pouze úzké skupině odborníků, na Novém Zélandu patří jeho malby původních maorských obyvatel k národnímu kulturnímu dědictví, a samotný Lindauer zde patří mezi
nejpopulárnější malíře koloniálního období.
Podobně v Česku neznámý a pro svět významný je i Ladislav
Sutnar (foto 2). Tomu složí letos hold Galerie města Plzně
a Západočeské muzeum. Od 21. května do 5. srpna budou
v Galerii města Plzně k vidění například jeho obrazy Venuší,
které patří k jeho nejzáhadnějším a nejdiskutovanějším projevům. Jde o sérii kreseb, koláží a maleb, v nichž Sutnar spojil
brilantní výtvarné vnímání objektu se snahou posunout ženské tělo do roviny sexuálního symbolu. Na počátky Sutnarovy
umělecké tvorby poukáže výstava v Západočeském muzeu,
koná se od 15. května do 8. listopadu.
Z docela jiného těsta jsou naopak dvě výstavy věnované
Jiřímu Trnkovi, otci evropské animace, nazývanému Walt
Disney východu. Diváka vracejí do dětství a nabádají ho vidět

svět jinak. V Galerii města Plzni je do 10. května instalována
výstava Ateliér Jiřího Trnky (foto 1), kterou připravil jeho syn,
a v Západočeském muzeu trvá do 24. května Trnkova Zahrada, pod níž je podepsán syn společně s vnukem. Obě rozžívají imaginativní Trnkův svět, jak jej znají čtenáři knih nebo
diváci jeho animovaných filmů.
Vedle krátkodobých výstav ve velkých či menších galeriích zve
Plzeň také k prohlídce expozic v Západočeském muzeu, Národopisném muzeu, Pivovarském muzeu, Muzeu loutek nebo
Muzeu církevního umění.

Pilsen pays homage to three worldwide
famous natives
Painter Gottfried Lindauer, designer Ladislav Sutnar and puppeteer
Jiří Trnka were all born in Pilsen and won popularity all over the
world. Their trace in art is mapped by three large exhibitions.
A prophet is not welcome in his hometown, it is said, and Gotffried Lindauer
(photo 3) could tell the story of it. He will
be actually. Not in person but through an
exhibition dedicated to this Pilsen-born
painter of New Zealand Moors. It will run
from May 6 to September 20 in Masné
krámy. While in the Czech Republic he is
known only to a narrow circle of experts,
in New Zealand his painting of the aboriginal Moor population are considered a
part of the national cultural heritage and
Lindauer himself belongs among the most
popular painters of the colonial period.
Ladislav Sutnar (photo 2) is equally
unknown in the Czech Republic and important for the world. He will be paid an
homage by the Gallery of the City of Pilsen
and the Museum of Western Bohemia.
The Gallery of the City of Pilsen will run
an exhibition of his Venus pictures, his
most mysterious and widely discussed
works, from May 21 to August 5. It is
a series of drawings, collages and paintings, in which Sutnar combines his brilliant
artistic perception of the object with an
effort to shift the female body onto the
level of sexual symbol. The exhibition
in the Museum of West Bohemia will
pay attention to the very beginnings of
Sutnar’s work. It will run from May 15
to November 8.

life the world of Trnka’s imagination, as
the readers of his books or lovers of his
films know it.
Besides short-term exhibitions in galleries
large and small, however, Pilsen invites
for a visit of permanent expositions in the
Museum of Western Bohemia, Geographical Museum, Brewery Museum, Museum
of Puppets or Museum of Church Art.
Quite different are two exhibitions dedicated
to Jiří Trnka, the father of the European

der Puppenspieler Jiří Trnka wurden in Pilsen geboren, haben sich
jedoch in der ganzen Welt einen Namen gemacht. In der bildenden
Kunst hinterließen sie bedeutende Spuren, die nun in drei großen
Ausstellungen gewürdigt werden.
Es heißt, ein Prophet gilt nichts im eigenen
Land. Einer, der ein Lied davon singen
könnte, ist Gottfried Lindauer (Foto 3).
Und das wird er auch tun. Das heißt, nicht
er selbst, sondern eine Ausstellung, die
diesem aus Pilsen stammenden Maler
und Porträtisten neuseeländischer Maori
gewidmet ist. Sie findet vom 6. Mai bis
20. September im Ausstellungssaal in
den Fleischbänken (Masné krámy) statt.
Während Lindauer in den böhmischen
Ländern nach wie vor nur einem kleinen
Kreis von Fachleuten bekannt ist, gehören
seine Maori-Porträts in Neuseeland zum
nationalen Kulturerbe und Lindauer selbst
zu den populärsten Malern der Kolonialzeit.
Westböhmischen Museum gewürdigt
wird. So werden z. B. vom 21. Mai bis
5. August in der Galerie der Stadt Pilsen
Sutnars Venus-Bilder zu sehen sein, die
zu seinen rätselhaftesten und meistdiskutierten Arbeiten zählen. Dabei handelt
es sich um eine Serie von Zeichnungen,
Collagen und Gemälden, in denen Sutnar
eine brillante bildkünstlerische Wahrnehmung der Objekte mit dem Bestreben
verbindet, den weiblichen Körper zu einem
sexuellen Symbol zu stilisieren. Auf die
Anfänge von Sutnars künstlerischem
Schaffen verweist eine Ausstellung im
Westböhmischen Museum, die vom
15. Mai bis 8. November stattfindet.
Gleichfalls in Tschechien unbekannt
und in der Welt berühmt ist Ladislav
Sutnar (Foto 2), der in diesem Jahr von
der Galerie der Stadt Pilsen und dem

sind zwei Ausstellungen, die dem auch
als Walt Disney des Ostens bezeichneten Vater des europäischen Trickfilms

versetzen den Betrachter zurück in die
Kindheit und ermutigen ihn, die Welt
mit anderen Augen zu sehen. In der
Galerie der Stadt Pilsen wird bis zum
10. Mai die von Trnkas Sohn konzipierte
Ausstellung „Das Atelier Jiří Trnkas“
(„Ateliér Jiřího Trnky“) gezeigt, das
Westböhmische Museum präsentiert bis
zum 24. Mai die Ausstellung „Trnkas
Garten“ („Trnkova Zahrada“), welche
die gemeinsame Handschrift von Sohn
und Enkel trägt. Beide Ausstellungen
beschwören Trnkas imaginäre Welt, wie
sie den Lesern seiner Bücher und dem
Publikum seiner Trickfilme bekannt ist.

Navštivte byty navržené Adolfem Loosem
Po letech příprav a mravenčí práce zpřístupnila Plzeň veřejnosti jeden ze
svých největších klenotů: tři interiéry, jejichž autorem je Adolf Loos. Tento guru
architektonické moderny vytvořil v Plzni mezi válkami unikátní kolekci bytů pro
bohatou židovskou klientelu. Dochoval se jich však jen zlomek.
„Dům se musí líbit všem. Na rozdíl od uměleckého díla, které
se nemusí líbit nikomu. Umělecké dílo se zrodí, aniž by existovala jeho potřeba. Dům pokrývá určitou potřebu.“ V těchto
větách z článku Architektura formuloval Adolf Loos svou základní myšlenku učení o bydlení. Nad jeho interiéry v celku
i detailech žasne člověk i po téměř sto letech.
Vídeň, Paříž, Plzeň
ných prohlídek je možné si prohlédnout jen tři. Kromě Brummelova domu na Husově tř. 58 (foto 2) je to ještě bývalý
byt doktora Vogla na Klatovské 12 (foto 4), kde je k vidění
salonek a jídelna, a byt rodiny Krauzových v Bendově 10 (foto
1, 3), kde lze obdivovat salon s jídelnou a ložnici.

Adolf Loos pocházel z Brna, jeho architektonické myšlení
významně ovlivnila Amerika. K jeho nejdůležitějším stavbám
patří obchodní dům Goldmann & Salatsch na Michalském náměstí ve Vídni, dům básníka Tristana Tzary v Paříži a vila pro
stavitele Františka Müllera v Praze.
Právě zákazníci či spolupracovníci plzeňské firmy Müller
a Kapsa se záhy stali další Loosovou klientelou. Byli kultivovaní, zámožní a nechat si od něj upravit interiér bytu se
pro ně stalo prestižní záležitostí. A tak byl věhlasný architekt
pověřen rekonstrukcí Brummelova domu a dalších třinácti
plzeňských bytů.

After years of hard work Pilsen made accessible one of its major
jewels: three flats designed by Adolf Loos. The guru of modernism
in architecture designed, in between world wars, a unique set of
flats for rich Jewish citizens of Pilsen. Only a fraction of them have
survived though.

„A house must appeal to everybody.
Contrary to a work of art which can
appeal to no one. A work of art is born
without there actually being a need for
it. A house, on the contrary, is there to
satisfy some need.” These words, published in the article entitled Architecture,
formulate Loos’s basic theory of housing.
His interior designs are breathtaking even
after a hundred years.

Vienna, Paris, Pilsen
Come in!
Adolf Loos came from Brno and his
thinking in architecture was significantly
influenced by American design. His most
important buildings include the Goldmann
& Salatsch at Michael’s Square, Vienna,
the house of poet Tristan Tzara in Paris
and the villa for constructor František
Müller in Prague.
Most of Loos’s interiors have not survived
or are not accessible to public. Tours
are available only for three. Besides
the house of the Brummels at Husova
avenue no. 58 (photo 2), it is the former
flat of Dr. Vogel at Klatovská avenue no.
12 (photo 4), where drawing room and
dining room are available, and the flat of
the Krauzs at Bendova 10 (photo 1, 3),
where drawing room, dining room and
bedroom are displayed.
It was the clients and partners of the
Pilsen-based company Müller & Kapsa,
who became next clients of Loos. They
were educated, rich and to have interiors
designed by him was for them a matter
of prestige. The renowned architect
was thus commissioned to reconstruct
Brummel’s house and thirteen more
Pilsen flats.

Nach Jahren der Vorbereitung und emsigen Arbeit hat Pilsen der
Öffentlichkeit eines seiner größten Juwelen zugänglich gemacht:
drei Interieurs aus der Feder von Adolf Loos. Dieser Guru der
architektonischen Moderne schuf im Pilsen der Zwischenkriegszeit
eine einzigartige Kollektion von Wohnungen für eine wohlhabende
jüdische Klientel. Von diesen blieb jedoch nur ein Bruchteil erhalten.
„Das Haus hat allen zu gefallen. Zum Unterschiede vom Kunstwerk, das niemandem
zu gefallen hat. Das Kunstwerk wird in
die Welt gesetzt, ohne daß ein Bedürfnis
dafür vorhanden wäre. Das Haus deckt ein
Bedürfnis.“ In diesen Sätzen aus dem Essay
„Architektur“ formulierte Adolf Loos den
Grundgedanken seiner Wohnkonzeption.
Über seine Interieurs wie über einzelne
Details derselben gerät man auch fast
hundert Jahre später noch ins Staunen.

Adolf Loos stammte aus Brünn, sein
architektonisches Denken war jedoch in
starkem Maße von Amerika beeinflusst. Zu
seinen wichtigsten Bauwerken gehören
das Geschäftshaus Goldmann & Salatsch
am Michaelerplatz in Wien, das Haus des
Dichters Tristan Tzara in Paris sowie eine
Villa für den Bauunternehmer František
Müller in Prag.

bis heute erhalten geblieben oder nicht für
die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich. Im Rahmen

drei davon besuchen. Neben dem Haus
des Ehepaars Brummel in der Hus-Straße
(Husova třída) 58 (Foto 2) handelt es sich
um die ehemalige Wohnung eines Doktor
Vogel in der Klatovská třída 12 (Foto 4),
wo ein Salon und ein Esszimmer zu sehen
sind, und um die Wohnung der Familie
Kraus in der Bendova ulice 10 (Foto 1, 3),
wo man einen Salon mit Esszimmer sowie
ein Schlafzimmer bewundern kann.

Gerade die Kunden und Mitarbeiter
der Pilsner Baufirma Müller und Kapsa
wurden bald zu Loos‘ weiterer Klientel.
Sie waren kultiviert und vermögend, und
sich von Loos das Wohnungsinterieur
entwerfen zu lassen war für sie eine
Prestigeangelegenheit. Und so wurde
der berühmte Architekt mit der Rekonstruktion des sogenannten BrummelHauses und dreizehn weiteren Pilsner
Wohnungen beauftragt.

Vydejte se po stopách židovských památek
Ve středověké Plzni stály na území
tehdejšího ghetta dvě synagogy, a to
poblíž dnešní křižovatky Solní a Sedláčkovy ulice. V roce 1504 však byli
židé z města vypovězeni, a tak se sem
jejich kultura vrací až téměř po 350 letech, kdy došlo k náboženskému, ekonomickému i politickému uvolnění.
Stará synagoga
Vzápětí za čerstvě zbořenými městskými hradbami vyrůstá nová synagoga (foto 3). Očím křesťanské veřejnosti však musela být skryta, a tak byla
postavena ve vnitrobloku mezi dnešní
Americkou třídou a Smetanovými sady.
Novorománská stavba s dvoupatrovou
dřevěnou galerií a krásnou schránou
na Tóru tu stojí dodnes. Nedávno prošla rekonstrukcí a slouží jako místo
konání kulturních akcí.
Zahrada vzpomínek
Když synagoga, dnes zvaná Stará,
přestávala svou kapacitou postačovat,
byla k ní v roce 1875 přistavěna synagoga Pomocná, která krátce sloužila
i jako židovská škola. Po válce se z ní
stalo skladiště, a pak už rychle chátra-

la. V roce 1997 se zřítila její střecha.
Stěny však zůstaly a uvnitř vznikla
v roce 2002 Zahrada vzpomínek. Více
než dva a půl tisíce oblázků nese jména plzeňských obětí holocaustu.
Velká synagoga
Koncem roku 1888 byl položen základní kámen Velké synagogy (foto 1, 2).
Její dnešní podoba se rodila delší dobu
a komplikovaně, a tak byla stavba dokončena až v roce 1893. I tuto synagogu poznamenala válka a následná
léta socialistického nezájmu. Teprve
na konci 20. století se podařilo sehnat
peníze alespoň na nejnutnější rekonstrukční práce. Jedna z největších synagog na světě byla zachráněna a dnes je
místem pro kulturní i náboženské akce.
Všechny plzeňské synagogy jsou
v péči Židovské obce, která je zpřístupnila veřejnosti a nabízí jejich prohlídky. Návštěvníci si mohou zvolit, zda
využijí služeb průvodce, anebo budou
vnímat ducha těchto míst jen sami.

There were two synagogues in the mediaeval
Pilsen ghetto, both near the crossroads
of Solní and Sedláčkova streets. In 1504,
however, the Jews were driven from the
city so their culture returned here after
nearly 350 years, at the time of religious,
economic and political easing of tensions.

disrepair. In 1997 its roof fell down. The
walls, however, survived and in 2002, the
Garden of Memories was built inside. Over
two and a half thousand of pebbles bear
the names of Pilsen’s holocaust victims.

city walls. It had to be hidden from the
Christian eyes, however, so it was built
inside block of houses between today’s
American avenue and Smetanovy sady.
The neo-romanesque building with a
two-storey wooden gallery and beautiful Torah box has survived. It has been
reconstructed recently and serves as a
venue for culture events.

Jewish cemetries
The Jewish Community in Pilsen currently uses the cemetery at the outskirts
of the city near the road to Prague. The
old Jewish cemetery was located north
of the City. It stopped being used in the
early 20th century and, subsequently, was
completely destroyed. Today its existence
is commemorated by a special memorial
with a few remaining stones. A mediaeval
Jewish cemetery was discovered when
the shopping mall Plaza was being built.

Garden of Memories
The foundations of the Great Synagogue
(photo 1, 2) were laid in late 1888. Its today’s
appearance is the result of a lengthy and
complicated process and the synagogue
was not finished until 1893. It was, too,
damaged by the war and, subsequently,
neglect of Socialist authorities. Only at the
end of the 20th century funds were raised
for a rather basic reconstruction. One of
the largest synagogues in the world was
thus saved and today serves as a venue
for culture and religious events.

Synagogue, no longer sufficed in capacity, an auxiliary building was added to it
in 1875 which also served as a Jewish

Auf den Spuren des jüdischen Pilsen
Die Alte Synagoge
Kurz darauf entstand hinter den gerade
abgerissenen Stadtmauern eine neue
Synagoge (Foto 3). Vor den Augen der
christlichen Öffentlichkeit musste sie
jedoch verborgen bleiben, und so errichtete man sie in einem Innenhof zwischen
den heutigen Straßen Americká třída und
Smetanovy sady. Dort steht der neoromanische Bau mit seiner zweistöckigen
Holzgalerie und dem schönen Thoraschrein
bis heute. Unlängst wurde die Synagoge
saniert und dient jetzt als Ort für kulturelle
Veranstaltungen.
Der Garten der Erinnerungen
Als die Kapazität der Synagoge, die
heute die Alte Synagoge genannt wird,
nicht mehr ausreichte, wurde im Jahr

1875 eine Hilfssynagoge angebaut, die
vorübergehend auch als jüdische Schule
diente. Nach dem Krieg wurde sie in ein
Depot umfunktioniert und begann schnell
zu verfallen. 1997 stürzte ihr Dach ein.
Die Mauern blieben jedoch erhalten
und in ihrem Inneren entstand 2002 der
Garten der Erinnerungen. Auf mehr als
zweieinhalbtausend Kieselsteinen sind
hier die Namen der Pilsner HolocaustOpfer zu lesen.
Heute dient sie als Ort für kulturelle und
religiöse Veranstaltungen. Alle Pilsner
Synagogen befinden sich in der Obhut
der Jüdischen Gemeinde, welche sie der
Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht hat und
Besichtigungen anbietet. Die Besucher
können selbst entscheiden, ob sie eine
geführte Besichtigung möchten oder den
Geist dieser Orte lieber allein auf sich
wirken lassen.
Die Große Synagoge
Die Pilsner Jüdische Gemeinde nutzt
heute für Begräbnisse einen Friedhof
am Stadtrand, an der Ausfallstraße nach
Prag. Der alte jüdische Friedhof befand
sich nördlich vom Stadtzentrum. Anfang
des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde er jedoch
aufgelöst und anschließend vollständig
zerstört. Heute erinnert an ihn ein pietätvoll
gestalteter Platz mit einigen verbliebenen
Steinen. Der mittelalterliche Friedhof wurde
beim Bau des neuen Einkaufszentrums
Plaza wiederentdeckt.

Ende des Jahres 1888 wurde der Grundstein der Großen Synagoge (Foto 1, 2)
gelegt. Ihre heutige Gestalt entstand in
komplizierter Weise über einen längeren
Zeitraum hinweg, und so wurde der Bau erst
1893 fertiggestellt. Auch diese Synagoge
wurde vom Krieg und den nachfolgenden

Město nabízí mnoho aktivit pro rodiny s dětmi
S dětmi se dá v Plzni trávit volný čas opravdu pestře. Jelikož ovšem děti toho

Nové expozice Amazonie a Středomoří, terária s nejjedovatějšími hady světa, tygři ussurijští opět v páru, mládě hrošíka
liberijského Adélka a samozřejmě roční samička nosorožce
indického Maruška – to budou hlavní letošní lákadla Zoologické a botanické zahrady (foto 3). Ta navíc v průběhu roku
pořádá různé víkendové akce, takže se tu člověk snadno stane
součástí dalšího dění. Plzeňská ZOO se může pochlubit druhým největším medvědincem v Evropě a její skutečnou perlou
je nejmohutnější ještěr světa varan komodský. Díky DinoParku (foto 1) se tu návštěvník může seznámit i se zvířaty, která
naši planetu obývala dávno před námi. Kromě desítek jejich pohyblivých modelů tu najde i 3D kino nebo dinoaquarium.

Deset interaktivních expozic je zaměřeno na návštěvníky od tří
let. Filmy v digitálním 3D planetáriu (foto 2) je poutavou

Zajímavých cílů pro děti je ale v Plzni mnohem víc. Kdo se

You can spend your time with children in Pilsen in a much varied
way. Since children, however, have stronger stamina than adults, it
is ideal if individual family members can take turns at leisure events.
They will like it too though.
If you want to enjoy Pilsen with children,

a detective’s job? All of this is possible if
you go to Techmania Science Center.
Here both children and adults can learn, in
a playful manner, about the world around
us. Ten interactive expositions is targeted
at visitors from three years of age. Films
in digital 3D planetarium (photo 2) will
show them – in an attractive and easy to
understand manner – the reality of distant
space and what the work of astronauts
consists of, while programmes in stateof-the-art laboratories and workshops will
give them answers to questions such as
who the murderer is or how to save the
Apollo 13 crew.

There are, however, many more attractive destinations for children in Pilsen.
Museum of Specters will satisfy the
lovers of fear and trembling, while the
history fans will no doubt appreciate the
Historical Underground of Pilsen.

(Dům pohádek) or Museum of Puppets
(Muzeum loutek).

Für Familien mit Kindern hat Pilsen

Mit Kindern kann man seine Freizeit in Pilsen wirklich
abwechslungsreich gestalten. Da aber Kinder davon meist mehr
vertragen als Erwachsene, ist es ideal, die einzelnen Stationen in
Begleitung unterschiedlicher Familienmitglieder zu absolvieren.

Auf zu den Tieren
Die neuen Ausstellungen „Amazonien“
und „Mittelmeer“, Terrarien mit den
giftigsten Schlangen der Welt, ein
wieder intaktes sibirisches Tigerpaar,
das liberische Flusspferdjunge Adélka
und natürlich das einjährige indische
Nashornweibchen Maruška – das sind
die diesjährigen Hauptattraktionen des
Zoologischen und botanischen
Gartens (Foto 3). Im Laufe des Jahres
lädt dieser zudem zu verschiedenen
Wochenendveranstaltungen ein, sodass
man schnell in das weitere Geschehen
involviert wird. Der Pilsner ZOO kann sich
des zweitgrößten Bärengeheges in Europa
rühmen, seine eigentliche Perle ist jedoch
die größte lebende Echse der Welt – der
Komodowaran. Im angeschlossenen
DinoPark (Foto 1) kann man zudem
Tieren begegnen, die unseren Planeten
lange vor uns bewohnt haben. Neben
zahlreichen beweglichen Modellen dieser
Tiere findet man hier auch ein 3D-Kino
oder ein Dino-Aquarium.

interaktive Ausstellungen richten sich an

digitalen 3D-Planetarium (Foto 2) führen
in fesselnder und verständlicher Weise
durch das ferne Weltall und die Arbeit
der Astronauten. Und die Programme in
den gut ausgestatteten Laboratorien und
Werkstätten geben z. B. Antwort auf die
Frage, wer der Mörder ist und wie man

Pilsen hat jedoch für Kinder noch wesentlich mehr Interessantes zu bieten.
Wer sich gern fürchtet, geht vielleicht
ins Gespenstermuseum. Wer sich für
Geschichte interessiert, in die Pilsner
historischen Keller. Wer Märchen liebt,
ist im Theater Alfa, im Märchenhaus
oder im Marionettenmuseum richtig.

Plzeň nabízí restaurace s rozmanitou gastronomií
Láska prochází žaludkem, říká se. Snad i proto se může
Plzeň pochlubit nevídaným množstvím restaurací, kaváren
a cukráren. Prim v nich samozřejmě hraje tradiční česká
kuchyně, ale nechybí ani nabídka jídel středomořských,
indických, mexických, asijských a dalších.
Typická česká jídla, jako je vepřová pečeně se zelím
a knedlíky či smetanové omáčky, si můžete vychutnat
například v restauraci U Mansfelda (foto 2), U Salzmannů,
Na Spilce, ve Švejk restaurantu nebo v Restauraci
12° (foto 1). Správně ošetřené pivo vám určitě natočí
v restauraci Na Parkánu nebo Na Spilce. Kdo si chce
k jídlu dát pivní speciál, pro toho je tu Pivovarský dvůr
Purkmistr v Černicích. V restauraci The PUB si dokonce
host šenkuje pivo sám.
Vegetariánskou a vůbec zdravou kuchyni nabízí restaurace
Slunečnice v Jungmannově ulici nebo bistro Anděl v Bezručově ulici.
Vyznavači steaků si přijdou na své v Angus Steak House,
v restauraci PI.JEZ.PI (foto 3), nebo v restauraci Saloon
Roudná. V obou jim nabídnou jídelní lístek plný toho nejlepšího, co steaková kuchyně obsahuje, a to pochopitelně
včetně oblíbeného tatarského bifteku. Skvělé hamburgery
si zase můžete dát v restauraci Delish a nebo v Comix
Excelent Urban Pubu.
Bohatá je v Plzni ovšem i nabídka cizokrajné gastronomie.
Italskou kuchyni vaří restaurant Budino, indickou a nepálskou restaurace Everest, na španělských jídlech si můžete
pochutnat v el Cidu v Křižíkových sadech, na jídlo sladké
Francie zase zve el Cid v Kopeckého sadech. Vynikající
středomořskou kuchyni nabízí Restaurant Rango u náměstí Republiky a japonské sushi Zeke Sushi bar nedaleko Velkého divadla. Milovníky kvalitní italské kuchyně potěší
i návštěva restaurace Pulcinella (foto 4). Ta je od centra
města sice vzdálená, ale vynaloženou cestu k ní vynahradí
kulinářský zážitek.
Báječnou kávu vám připraví třeba v Caffeterii Hardy
ve Františkánské ulici, v Il Mio Café, v Orient Caffe,
v Olala! Café na náměstí Republiky nebo v některém
z řady CrossCafe. A všude si k ní pochopitelně můžete dát
i nějakou vynikající sladkost.

has so many restaurants, cafés and sweet
shops. These are naturally dominated by
traditional Czech cuisine, but Mediterranean, Indian, Mexican, Asian and other
cuisines are represented too.
Typical Czech meals such as pork, cabbage
and dumplings or cream sauces can be
enjoyed, for instance, in the restaurants

very best way is to set out on a tour with
a guide who will take you through history,

and tell interesting stories.
Guided tours
Every Saturday you can set out for a
commented guided tour of the historical
centre of the city. Meeting is always at
a given hour in front of the Information
Centre, Republic Square 41, where you
buy the ticket. The tour takes about an
hour and a half and the guide will show
you the most important heritage sights
in the centre, plus stories connected to
them. The tour can be terminated either
in the centre, or you can follow the guide
to the Pilsner Urquell Brewery where – if

einem Stadtführer auf einen kommentierten Besichtigungsrundgang durch
das historische Stadtzentrum begeben.
Treffpunkt ist zur jeweils angegebenen
Zeit vor dem Informationszentrum auf
dem Platz der Republik 41, wo man auch
Tickets kaufen kann. Während des ca.
eineinhalbstündigen Besichtigungsrundgangs wird Sie der Stadtführer mit den
wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten des
städtischen Denkmalschutzgebiets und
den damit verbundenen Geschichten
vertraut machen. Ihren Rundgang können
Sie entweder im Stadtzentrum beenden
oder mit dem Stadtführer bis zur PilsnerUrquell-Brauerei fortsetzen, wo sich je
nach Wunsch eine Brauereibesichtigung
anschließen kann. Eine weitere Möglichkeit
sind die jeweils am Samstag stattfindenden deutschsprachigen Besichtigungen
des historischen Stadtkerns. Diese beginnen in der Halle des Hauptbahnhofs.

Katedrála sv. Bartoloměje 1 se
pyšní nejvyšší kostelní věží v Čechách –
měří 102,6 metru. Z jejího vyhlídkového
ochozu ve výši 65 metrů uvidíte celé
město jako na dlani.
Renesanční radnici 2 z roku 1558
zdobí četná sgrafita. V přízemí, v místnosti za mázhauzem, si můžete prohlédnout model historického jádra města
v měřítku 1:200. V sousedním Císařském domě sídlí Informační centrum
města Plzně.
Plzeňská madona na hlavním oltáři
katedrály patří mezi nejkrásnější české
gotické sochy. Východní stranu katedrály kryje z vnější strany kovaná barokní
mříž zdobená hlavičkami andělíčků –
mezi nimi se nachází tzv. andělíček pro
štěstí. Poznáte ho snadno, je celý oblýskaný, a když jej pohladíte a budete si
něco přát, určitě se vám to splní.

Moderní kašny ve třech rozích náměstí jsou dílem architekta Ondřeje
Císlera. Zobrazují heraldické figury
z městského znaku – anděla, velblouda a chrtici. Ve čtvrtém rohu náměstí
se nachází morový sloup z roku 1681
s barokní replikou plzeňské madony
na vrcholu.
Celé náměstí je doslova zhmotnělou
učebnicí architektury. Vedle gotické katedrály tu stojí domy renesanční, barokní,
secesní, funkcionalistické i reprezentující architekturu druhé poloviny 20. století. Na jižní straně náměstí se zachovaly
renesanční domy s kamennými portály.
V jednom z nich sídlí i Muzeum loutek
3 . Pamětní desky připomínají například pobyt vojevůdce Albrechta z Valdštejna či císaře Rudolfa II.
Z jižního rohu náměstí je vidět Velká
synagoga 4 . Jedna z největších
synagog na světě pojme více než tisíc lidí. Postavena byla v roce 1892
v maursko-románském stylu.

Perlovou ulicí projdeme do ulice Veleslavínovy k Pivovarskému muzeu

na světě, které sídlí v původním pivovarnickém domě. Kromě prohlídkové
trasy věnované vývoji pivovarnictví
od starověku do současnosti, je odtud
možné navštívit i plzeňské historické podzemí. Tento spletitý labyrint
chodeb, sklepů a studní byl pod městem Plzní budován od 14. století. Také
patří k nejrozsáhlejším v Čechách
a jeho specialitou je ohromné množství studní.
Procházku centrem města můžeme
stylově zakončit v Pražské ulici v nejznámější plzeňské pivnici U Salzmannů. Dům s původním renesančním bosovaným portálem nese jméno
formana Martina Salzmanna, který
v roce 1842 dovezl první várku Prazdroje do Prahy.
Jen deset minut chůze od centra se
nachází světoznámý pivovar Plzeňský Prazdroj 15 . Od Pivovarské-
ho muzea pokračujeme okolo hotelu

strouze a odtud podchodem pod
čtyřproudou komunikací do Štruncových sadů. Za podchodem zabočíme
doprava. Kolem rekonstruované budovy secesní Sokolovny a po lávce přes
řeku dojdeme do pivovaru.
Ve spodní části Kopeckého sadů se
vyplatí odbočit Františkánskou ulicí
k františkánskému klášteru, jenž patří
mezi nejstarší stavby ve městě. Dnes
zde sídlí Muzeum církevního umění plzeňské diecéze 10 .
Vrátíme se zpět a pokračujeme směrem k Západočeskému muzeu
11  , které se pyšní unikátní Městskou
zbrojnicí s evropsky významnou sbírkou
gotických pušek. V Šafaříkových sadech nepřehlédněme drobné sousoší
plzeňských „rodáků“ Spejbla a Hurvínka, nejznámějších českých loutek.

Heart of the City
The Madonna of Pilsen on the main
altar of the cathedral belongs among the
most beautiful Czech Gothic sculptures.
The eastern side of the cathedral is
protected by a Baroque grille, decorated
by the heads of the angels, including the
angel that brings happiness – you will find
him easily as his head is quite worn since
the legend has it that if you touch his head
and say a wish, your wish will be fulfilled.

of the square have been designed by the

You cannot start a tour of Pilsen anywhere else than in the Republic
Square. With its 193 x 139 metres, it was one of the largest Gothic
squares in the Central Europe at the time when the city was founded.
The Great Synagogue 4 can be seen
from the southern corner of the square.
With capacity of over 1,000 people, it
belongs among the largest synagogues in
the world. It was built in 1892 in MoorishRomanesque style.
Bedřich Smetana street will take us past
the Baroque Chuch of St Anna 5 and
the Classicist building of The Education
and Research Library of the Pilsener
Region 6 (formerly a Dominican Cloister) to the so-called Gate, built in the
Empire style on the place of the former
Gothic City Gate. Behind it you will find
a large municipal park, established in
the mid-19th century in the place of the
former city walls. From here, you can see
the neo-renaissance building of the Big
Theatre on the right 7 .
Above the Art Noveau hotel Slovan, inside
the block of houses in Smetanovy sady
park, there is the Old Synagogue 8
built in 1859.

and a greyhound. In the fourth corner
of the square there is a plague pillar
of 1681 with the Baroque replica of the
Pilsen madonna on top.
The Renaissance town hall 2 of 1558
is decorated by numerous sgraffiti. Check
out the 1:200 model of the historical centre
on the ground floor, just behind the great
hall. The neighbouring Emperor House
is the home to the Information Centre of
the City of Pilsen.
The whole square is something like a
textbook of architecture. The Gothic
cathedral is neighboured by Renaissance,
Baroque, Secessionist, Functionalist and
late 20th century buildings. On the south
side of the square you will find Renaissance
houses with stone portals. One of these
houses is the Museum of the Puppets
3 . Plaques on the houses commemorate
the stay of Adalbert of Wallenstein and
the Emperor Rudolph II among others.

Kopeck ý ’s Park is prominent with
Měšťanská beseda 9  , the most
important cultural venue for the citizens
of Pilsen. The historical building includes
Art Noveau hall and café.
In the lower part of Kopecký’s Park
take the Franciscan Street toward the
Franciscan Monastery, one of the oldest
buildings in the city. Today it houses the
newly opened Museum of the Church
Art of the Pilsen Bishopric 10 .
We return back and continue towards the
Museum of West Bohemia 11 boasting
a unique Municipal Armoury with a great
collection of Gothic guns. Don’t miss the
statues of Spejbl and Hurvínek, the
most famous Czech puppets and Pilsen
“natives”, in the nearby Šafařík’s Park.
The vacant site in Křižík’s Park is worth
mentioning for the largest painting in the
Czech Republic, the so-called Theatrum
mundi 12 depicting imporant people
from Pilsen’s history.
Along Proluka with the remains of the
city walls we will reach Masné krámy
13 . This Gothic building serves today as
the exhibition hall to the Gallery of West
Bohemia. The neighbouring Prague
Bridge offers a unique vista on Mlýnská
strouha (Mill-race) which has been
transformed into a romantic lake. The
mediaeval water tower is situated just
opposite Masné krámy.
Perlová Street will take us to Veleslavín’s
Street to the Brewery Museum 14 . It is
the world´s only museum of its kind, based
directly in the brewery house. Besides
the tour dedicated to the development
of brewery from the ancient times to
the present, you can visit the historical
underground of Pilsen. This convoluted
labyrinth of corridors, cellars and wells
was built from the 14th century. It belongs
among the vastest in the Czech Republic
and contains numerous wells.
A tour of the city can be – quite appropriately – concluded in the Prague
Street, in the most famous Pilsen pub
U Salzmannů. A house with the original
Renaissance embossed portal bears the
name of the wagoner Martin Salzmann
who brought the first supply of Pilsner
Urquell to Prague in 1842.
If you want to visit the worldwide famous
Pilsner Urquell brewery 15 , you can
continue from the Brewery Museum past
the hotel Courtyard by Marriot to Mlýnská
strouha and then take the underpass
under the four-lane road to Štrunc’s Park.
Take right after the underpass and go
along the reconstructed Art Nouveau
Sokolovna building, take the bridge over
the road and you should reach the brewery
in ten minutes.

das pulsierende Herz der Stadt

Ein Rundgang durch Pilsen kann nirgendwo anders beginnen als
auf dem Platz der Republik. Dieser war mit einer Fläche von
193 x 139 m zur Zeit seiner Erbauung einer der größten gotischen
Plätze Mitteleuropas.
Die unmittelbar auf dem Platz befindliche
St.-Bartholomäus-Kathedrale 1 kann
sich des höchsten Kirchturms in ganz
Böhmen rühmen – er ist 102,6 Meter
hoch und von seiner 65 Meter hohen
Aussichtsplattform kann man die ganze
Stadt überblicken.
Die Pilsner Madonna am Hauptaltar der
Kirche zählt zu den schönsten gotischen
Skulpturen in Böhmen. Die Ostseite der
Kathedrale ist außen von einem barocken, mit Engelsköpfen geschmückten
Metallgitter bedeckt, darunter befindet
sich auch der sog. Glücksengel. Wenn
Sie ihn streicheln und sich dabei etwas
wünschen, geht es bestimmt in Erfüllung.
Die modernen Springbrunnen an drei
Ecken des Platzes sind ein Werk des
Architekten Ondřej Císler. Sie zeigen
heraldische Figuren aus dem Pilsner
Stadtwappen: einen Engel, ein Kamel und
einen Windhund. In der vierten Ecke des
Platzes steht eine Pestsäule aus dem
Jahr 1681, an deren Spitze eine barocke
Replik der Pilsner Madonna zu sehen ist.
Ebenfalls auf dem Platz befindet sich
das mit zahlreichen Sgraffiti verzierte
Renaissance-Rathaus 2 aus dem Jahr
1558. Im Erdgeschoss des Gebäudes, in
einem Raum hinter dem Maßhaus, kann
man ein Modell des historischen Stadtkerns im Maßstab 1:200 bewundern.
Gleich nebenan, im Kaiserhaus, hat das
Informationszentrum der Stadt seinen Sitz.
Der ganze Platz ist quasi ein materialisiertes Architekturlehrbuch: Neben der
gotischen Kathedrale finden sich Renaissance-, Barock- und Jugendstilhäuser,
funktionalistische Gebäude wie auch
Bauwerke aus der zweiten Hälfte des 20.
Jahrhunderts. Auf der Südseite sind einige
Renaissancehäuser mit Steinportalen
erhalten geblieben. In einem davon ist
das Marionettenmuseum 3 ansässig.
Vom südlichen Ende des Platzes aus ist die
Große Synagoge 4 zu sehen. Sie wurde
1892 im maurisch-romanischen Stil erbaut
und gehört mit einem Fassungsvermögen
von mehr als tausend Menschen zu den
größten Synagogen der Welt.
Durch die Bedřich-Smetana-Straße
gelangt man, vorbei an der barocken
St.-Anna-Kirche 5 und dem klassizistischen Bau der Wissenschaftlichen
Bibliothek der Region Pilsen (einem
früheren Dominikanerinnenkloster) 6 , zur
sog. Branka, einem auf den Überresten
des gotischen Stadttors errichteten
Empire-Gebäude. Dahinter beginnt das
wunderschöne städtische Parkgelände,
das Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts anstelle
der abgerissenen Stadtmauern angelegt
wurde. Von hier aus ist rechterhand das
im Neorenaissancestil erbaute Große
Theater 7 zu sehen.
Oberhalb des Jugendstilhotels Slovan
verbirgt sich im Innenhof eines Hauses
in der Straße Smetanové sady 5 die Alte
Synagoge 8 aus dem Jahr 1859.
Im Kopecký-Park zieht das wichtigste
gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Zentrum
der Pilsner, das ehemalige bürgerliche
Vereinshaus Měšťanská beseda 9 ,
die Blicke auf sich. In dem historischen
Gebäude befinden sich bezaubernde
Jugendstilsäle und ein Jugendstilcafé.
Vom unteren Teil des Kopecký-Parks
aus lohnt sich ein Abstecher in die
Františkánská ulice zum Franziskanerkloster, das zu den ältesten Bauwerken
der Stadt gehört. Heute hat dort das neu
eröffnete Museum für Kirchenkunst
der Diözese Pilsen 10 seinen Sitz.
Kehren wir nun zum Ausgangspunkt
unseres Abstechers zurück und setzen
unseren Rundgang in Richtung des Westböhmischen Museums 11 fort. Dieses
beherbergt u.a. die Städtische Rüstkammer
mit einer europaweit bedeutsamen Sammlung gotischer Flinten. Im Šafařík-Park
sticht eine kleine Skulpturengruppe ins
Auge, die zwei „gebürtige“ Pilsner zeigt:
die wohl bekanntesten tschechischen
Puppen Hurvínek und Spejbl.
Die sog. „Baulücke“ (Proluka) im benachbarten Křižík-Park ziert das größte
tschechische Fassadenbild – das sog.
Theatrum Mundi 12 , das wichtige
Pilsner Persönlichkeiten zeigt.
Vorbei an der „Baulücke“ mit Überresten
der Stadtmauer begeben wir uns zum
gotischen Gebäude der Fleischbänke
(Masné krámy) 13 , das heute als
Ausstellungssaal der Westböhmischen
Galerie dient. Von der benachbarten Prager
Brücke aus bietet sich ein einzigartiger
Blick auf den romantischen Mühlgraben
(Mlýnská strouha). Der ehemalige
Wassergraben hat heute die Form eines
schönen kleinen Sees. Gegenüber den
Fleischbänken steht der mittelalterliche
Wasserturm.
Durch die Perlová ulice gehen wir zum
Brauereimuseum 14 in der VeleslavínStraße. Dieses Museum ist als weltweit
einziges seiner Art in einem ehemals
brauberechtigten Haus untergebracht.
Neben einem Besichtigungsrundgang
zur Geschichte des Brauereiwesens
kann man von hier aus auch die Pilsner
historischen Keller besichtigen. Dieses
aus verzweigten Gängen, Kellern und
Brunnen bestehende Labyrinth wurde
ab dem 14. Jahrhundert unter der Stadt
errichtet. Es gehört zu den größten unterirdischen Kellersystemen in Böhmen
und seine Besonderheit besteht in einer
außergewöhnlich großen Zahl an Brunnen.
Unseren Bummel durch das Stadtzentrum können wir stilvoll im bekanntesten
Pilsner Bierlokal U Salzmannů in der
Pražská ulice beenden. Das mit einem
originalen Renaissance-Bossenportal
versehene Haus trägt den Namen des
Fuhrunternehmers Martin Salzmann, der
1842 die erste Ladung Pilsner Urquell
nach Prag brachte.
Wer noch die weltberühmte PilsnerUrquell-Brauerei 15 besichtigen will,
kann vom Brauereimuseum aus vorbei
am Hotel Courtyard by Marriott zum
Mühlgraben (Mlýnská strouha) und
dann durch eine Unterführung unter einer
vierspurigen Straße zum Štrunc-Park
gehen. Nach der Unterführung muss
man rechts abbiegen und gelangt, vorbei
am rekonstruierten Jugendstilgebäude
Sokolovna (Turnhalle) und über eine
kleine Brücke, nach ca. zehn Minuten
zur Brauerei.

CZ/ 9 týdnů baroka
V letních týdnech se představí devět oblastí baroka
Kulturní krajinou Čech kráčejí dějiny už několik tisíc let. Nepřehlédnutelnou stopu tu však
zanechalo především baroko. V rámci projektu Evropské hlavní město kultury se proto bude
konat i velký letní festival nazvaný 9 týdnů baroka. Barokní klenoty jím ožijí od 29. 6. do 30. 8.
Kraj se v rámci této akce představí jako kraj zázračných míst,
pramenů a madon, kraj poutních cest a světců, kraj barokní
krajiny, zámků, kostelů, klášterů a génia Santiniho, ale také
jako kraj příběhů zraněné krajiny, opuštěných a zaniklých kostelů i vesnic a kraj pivovarů a piva.
Každý den jinak
Každý den v týdnu bude mít v tom čase své konkrétní programové určení: pondělí je dnem pro krajinu, úterý patří památkám, středa venkovu a dobové i regionální gastronomii,
čtvrtek muzeím a galeriím, pátek a sobota budou vždy věnovány hlavnímu programu v nejvýznamnějších památkách dané
lokality. Neděle pak bude dnem pro duši. Vrcholem hudebního
programu bude uvedení premiéry barokní korunovační opery

a druhou největší jízdárnou ve střední Evropě.

hvězd na nebi krajiny. Krajina barokních soch – to je příběh
osmého barokního týdne, jenž oživí Mlýnskou stezku mezi
Nečtinami a Manětínem (foto 2). Devět týdnů baroka uzavře
šumavský projekt Pod ochranou Anděla Strážce.

Nine areas of Baroque to be introduced
in nine summer weeks
History has walked the culture landscape of Bohemia for
thousands years. It was the Baroque period, however, which has
left a remarkable trace. It is why the European Capital of Culture
will include a big summer festival called Nine Weeks of Baroque.
Baroque jewels will be sparked to life from July 29 to August 30.
In this event, the region will be presented
as a region of miraculous places, springs
and Madonnas, a region of pilgrimages
and saints, Baroque landscape, chateaus, churches, monasteries and the
genius of Santini, but also as a region
of injured landscape, abandoned and
destroyed churches and villages, a region
of breweries and beer.
Every day differently
Every day in a week will have a thematic determination: Monday is the day
of landscape, Tuesday for heritage sights,
Wednesday for country and historical and
regional cuisine, Thursday for museums
and galleries, Friday and Saturday will
always be dedicated to the principal programme in the most important heritage
sights of the given place. Sunday will be
a day for soul. The musical programme
will culminate by the premiere of the
coronation opera Constanza e fortezza
in Windischgrätz Riding Hall in Světce,
Tachov region (photo 3), which is the
largest Czech riding hall and the second
largest riding hall in the Central Europe.
Every week in different place
The first week will be dedicated to the
landscape south of Pilsen with the
birthplace of St John of Nepomuk and
his new museum, the second week will
take us to Klatovy and around, the third
is called the Crossroads of Pilgrims at
Our Lady of Přeštice, the fourth has the
name Roads to Springs, while the fifth
will take visitors to Konstantinovy Lázně
and Kladruby (photo 1) monastery, which
belongs among the most valuable Czech
historical sights and one of the best
buildings by J.B.Santini-Aichel. Moreover,
the monastery celebrates its 900th anniversary. The sixth week is dedicated
to Domažlice region, the seventh will
bear the name Ten Santini’s Stars on
the Firmanent of the Landscape. The
Landscape of Baroque Sculpture – this
is the story of the eighth Baroque week
which will focus attention on Mlýnská
stezka between Nečtiny and Manětín
(photo 2). Nine Weeks of Baroque will
close with the Böhmerwald-based project
Under the Protection of Guardian Angel.

wunderträchtiger Orte, Quellen und
Madonnen präsentieren, als eine Gegend von Wallfahrten und Heiligen, von
barocken Landschaften, Schlössern,
Kirchen und Klöstern, geprägt vom Genius des berühmten Baumeisters Santini,
aber auch als eine Gegend, welche die
Geschichte verwundeter Landschaften,
verlassener und verfallener Kirchen und
Dörfer erzählt, und nicht zuletzt als eine
Gegend der Brauereien und des Biers.
Jeden Tag anders
In dieser Zeit hat jeder Wochentag eine
ganz konkrete Bestimmung: Der Montag
gilt der Landschaft, der Dienstag den Baudenkmälern, der Mittwoch den ländlichen
Gebieten, der historischen und regionalen
Gastronomie, der Donnerstag den Museen
und Galerien. Am Freitag und Samstag
Die Kulturlandschaft Böhmen kann bereits auf mehrere Tausend
Jahre Geschichte zurückblicken. Unübersehbare Spuren hat hier
jedoch vor allem das Barock hinterlassen. Aus diesem Grunde
umfasst das Projekt „Kulturhauptstadt Europas“ u. a. ein großes
Sommerfestival mit dem Titel „9 Wochen Barock“, das vom 29. Juni
bis 30. August in Barockdenkmälern der Region stattfindet.

in Světce bei Tachov statt (Foto 3), welche
die größte Reithalle Tschechiens und die
zweitgrößte in Mitteleuropa ist.
Jede Woche woanders
In der ersten Barockwoche stellt sich das
Gebiet südlich von Pilsen mit dem Geburtsort
des Heiligen Johannes von Nepomuk und
dem neu eröffneten Nepomuk-Museum
vor, die zweite Woche führt in die Stadt
Klatovy und deren Umgebung, die dritte
trägt den Untertitel „Pilgerkreuzung bei
der Přešticer Wundermadonna“, die vierte
lockt mit „Reisen zu den Quellen“. Woche
fünf lädt ihre Besucher nach Konstantinovy Lázně und in das Kloster Kladruby
(Foto 1) ein, das zu den bedeutendsten
tschechischen Baudenkmälern und zu den
erstaunlichsten Bauwerken des Architekten
J. B. Santini-Aichel gehört. Das Kloster
feiert zudem sein 900-jähriges Bestehen.
Die sechste Barockwoche gilt der Gegend
um Domažlice, das Thema der siebenten
lautet „Zehn Sterne Santinis am Himmel
der Landschaft“. „Die Landschaft der
Barockskulpturen“ – das ist das Motto
der achten Woche, die den Mühlenpfad
zwischen Nečtiny und Manětín (Foto 2)
zum Leben erweckt. Ausklingen werden
die neun Barockwochen im Gebiet des
Böhmerwalds mit dem Projekt „Unter
dem Schutz eines Engels“.
