This doctoral thesis deals with the construction and investigation of initial data for the Einstein
vacuum equations. The analysis crucially depends on the asymptotic properties of the initial data.
On the one hand initial data with asymptotically flat ends provide the basic model of isolated
systems, such as stars and black holes. On the other hand asymptotically hyperboloidal ends seem
to have a few advantages over asymptotically at ends, e.g. they are well suited to deal with radiation
problems. Also initial data with asymptotically cylindrical ends have received increased attention
during the last few years. In particular initial data with one asymptotically flat and one
asymptotically cylindrical end – called trumpets – are of great interest in the recent literature. The
main result of this thesis is a rigorous existence proof for classes of such data, which are locally
conformally flat and with extrinsic curvatures of the Bowen-York type. Furthermore, we
demonstrate that it is possible to extend the proof to the case where the remaining asymptotically
flat end is replaced by an asymptotically hyperboloidal end.
