PUNJABI UNIVERSITY WELCOMED MAKA TROPHY WITH ENTHUSIASM
Patiala 2 Sept.: Once again Punjabi University has proved their caliber to be on
the top place since last eight years, as it has won this time also MAKA Trophy
(the most prestigious sports award of the country) of the session 2013-14 for the
seventh time. On this occasion Punjabi University welcomed MAKA Trophy today
here in the premises of the University at Guru Teg Bahadur Hall's Lawn.When
trophy came in the University, authority welcomed it with crackers, band, by
playing gatka, with performing bhangra & giddha etc. On this occasion Dr. Jaspal
Singh Honb'le Vice Chancellor Punjabi University gave worm welcome to the
University officers, college principals, sports administrators, coaches, dpe's from
various schools, physical education lecturers & players. On this occasion Prof.
Kirpal Singh Badungar Ex. President SGPC Amritsar and Chairman Backward
Classes Cell, Punjab and Director Sports Punjab S. Tejinder Singh Dhaliwal were
the special guests. Dean Academics Affairs Dr. A.S.Chawla, Registrar Dr.
Devinder Singh, Dean Colleges Dr. J.A. Khan, Dean Students Welfare Dr. Kulbir
Singh Dhillon, Finance Officer Dr. Baljit Singh Sidhu, Additional Dean Students
Welfare (girls) Dr. Amritpal Kaur, Controller Exam. Dr. Pawan Kumar Singla,
Director Youth Welfare Dr. Satish Verma, D.S.O. Patiala Smt. Jasvirpal Kaur
Brar, Principal S.K.Nirmal Goyal, Principal Khushwinder Kumar, Principal Gobind
Singh, Principal Jit Singh, Principal Onkar Singh were also present. Dr. Gurdeep
Kaur, Deputy Director Sports performed her duty very well as stage secretary.
Honb'le Vice Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh alongwith Director Sports Dr. Raj
Kumar Sharma and Dr. Dalbir Singh were honoured with Shawl & Momentos by
General Secretary of SDC Barnala Sh. Jatinder Nath Sharma & Principal Sh.
Manohar Lal Sharma.
Punjabi University got total 54535 points, whereas GNDU Amritsar had
47700 points, but Punjabi University awarded with this trophy with a difference of
6835points. Moreover Punjabi University has participated in total 59 team events
at All India Intervarsity Competitions in team games, in which 29 teams got first
place, 21 teams got second, 5 teams got third and 4 teams got fourth place
respectively. On the otherhand players of Punjabi University awarded with total of
127 medals in individual events at All India Intervarsity Competitions.
Dr. Jaspal Singh said in his speech that it a the matter of proud for him
that Punjabi University has been awarded with this trophy alongwith those
players who gets their national sports awards on the sports day. He further said
that now centre govt. is also going to have some important decisions for Punjabi
University, in which to make it a "Centre of Excellency in Sports" is one of the
major consideration. He gave the 100% credit to the university sports
administrators & its players for winning trophy for the seventh time. He also
promised to make more advanced sports infrastructures to give advance training
for the players in the university.
Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Director Sports said that winning this trophy
consecutively seventh time was not possible without the tireless endeavours of
the Honb'le Vice Chancellor, University higher authorities, Collge Principals,
Sports Organizers, Sports Department and our players. He further said that
sports department is working hard day & night with the mission of winning MAKA
every year and to make players to win medals at national levels. Moreover he
also thanked all the dignitaries to come in maka celebrations. Youth welfare
department contributed in this function with the performances of jindua, folk
songs etc.
