The optical windows are extremely parallel and flat with a fine optical polish. By careful annealing, cell physical strength is maximized to permit safe exposure to slightly higher and lower temperatures, and to pressure differentials of up to 3 atmospheres. The cell materials are chemically resistant to most solvents, acids and bases. Acids, such as HF, and strong bases (pH ≥9) should not come into contact with the cells.
