We are seeking to fill a number of temporary vacancies – Assembly Craftsperson, Product Tester, Glass Craftsperson Location Department Type of Contract Hours of Work Remuneration Closing date for applications : St Asaph : HMD Cell : Fixed Term (6 month contract) : 36 hours per week (some positions will require shift work) : £19,871 - £22,255 : Wednesday, 17th December 2014 Vacancies: Assembly Craftsperson – to assemble a range of sophisticated electro-optical instruments incorporating mechanical, optical and electronic components. Main responsibilities will include working as part of a dedicated team, assembling a range of sophisticated electro-optical instruments, providing quality work standards, involvement in process improvement, and supporting the team in achieving customer requirements. Product Tester – The product tester is responsible for testing and inspecting a range of sophisticated electro-optical instruments in accordance with the appropriate test documentation to ensure compliance with customer requirements. Main responsibilities will include working as part of a dedicated team, inspecting HMD products for adherence to the Customer requirements, immediately prior to despatch, and to submit products to Environmental Stress Screening, through the use of Environmental Chambers and Vibration equipment. Glass Craftsperson – to work as part of a team, utilising specific skills associated with Optical component manufacture. Main responsibilities will include the manufacture of Optical components – using hand polishing and machining methods, operating under minimum supervision within multi-skilled teams, supporting operations in achieving an environment of Continuous Improvement by applying lean manufacturing principles and processes. Personal Specification: Candidates should demonstrate a good level of education (at least a grade C or above in Maths and English O Level/GCSE or equivalent), mechanical aptitude and an appreciation of mechanical principles, but above all the willingness to learn. Candidates should be flexible and keen to learn new processes and procedures with a positive attitude and ‘can do’ approach. The ideal candidate will have an engineering based background (preferably involving high-value / precision made products) with knowledge production processes, gained from practical experience. Flexibility of working hours may be required, along with availability to work overtime to meet business needs. It would also be a great advantage if applicants had Optical Handling experience and competence in the use of PC’s, however given the specialised nature of our business full training will be given.
