Winery: Aia Vecchia, the name of an old building situated in the Tuscan countryside between
Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci and next the Tyrrhenian coast, is the center of the winery today.
The particularly favorable microclimate and ideally suited soils of this area make the production of
high quality wines possible. The position of the vineyards allow the vines to receive a great deal of
light, both direct sunlight and indirect as reﬂected oﬀ of the sea, which allows for an early harvest.
The property consists of 104 acres split into two estates in Bolgheri and Maremma Grossetana. In
the Bolgheri zone are planted: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot grapes,
which are used for the production of two of the ﬂagship wines: “Lagone” and “Sor Ugo.” In the cellar
situated in Castagneto Carducci there are 2,000 barriques.
The Morellino di Scansano and the Vermentino are produced at the estate of Magliano in Toscana
(Grosseto), where the Pellegrini family owns 74 acres planted to Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Vermentino and Viognier grape varieties.
History: After generations in the wine sector, the Pellegrini family founded Aia Vecchia in 1996 with
the mission to create a portfolio of small lot, high-quality Super Tuscan blends. With the help of the
famous Hungarian winemaker Tibor Gal, the Pellegrini family purchased exceptional property in
the Bolgheri DOC. The fusion of the microclimate, terrain and elevation creates an ideal location for
growing premium grapes.
Aia Vecchia recruited well-known agronomist Daniel Schuster to assist with choosing varieties,
clones, and diﬀerent rootstocks, which come directly from Bordeaux in order to ensure the quality.
The ﬁrst vintage of Aia Vecchia’s ﬂagship wine, “Lagone,” was in 1998. It is a structured and elegant
wine that is remains one of the greatest values to come out of the Bolgheri region and has captured
the attention of critics from publications such as Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and more.
