All of these textiles are dyed with natural dyes! They are just as beautiful today as they were more than 150 years ago. Explore natural dyes: both traditional and local variations; plant materials and processed pigments; bright colors and earth tones; fiber, fabric and yarn. Sat am: All the basics for silk and wool; cotton variations Sat pm: Contact prints on fabric; a little bit of science Sun am: Overdyeing and modifying; multiple colored skeins for weaving or knitting Sun pm: Some advanced techniques: surface design, prints and resists, discharges Cost of workshop: $45 - $65, depending on number of participants Materials fee: $35, payable to instructor Student supply list: Rubber gloves Plastic bags for wet fabrics Sharp fabric scissors, seam ripper Personal fibers (a comprehensive kit for sampling will be provided; students have the option of bringing additional specialty fibers they are interested in: maximum of one pound, pre-washed) Questions?
