Christmas House Blessing
The practice of Home Blessing is a beautiful tradition which has been preserved for centuries in the Catholic
Church. Usually this ceremony is performed at the Christmas season, especially between Christmas day and the
Feast of the Epiphany. Some people request the blessing before moving in a newly built or bought house as well.
But what is the meaning of this practice to a parishioner? Visiting his parishioners at their homes is one of the sacred duties of a parish priest. The priest represents the church and the entire parish community.
Jesus had visited his followers at their homes many times. He had broken bread with them, performed miracles
and had engaged in spiritual discussions. Upon sending his apostles to their mission, he had said to them:
“Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ As Franciscan Friars of St. Adalbert we would like
to visit our Parishioners and pray for God's Blessings on Your Home and Family. We will be blessing homes upon yourrequest after Christmas.

Zwyczaj błogosławieństwa domu to piękna tradycja, która jest praktykowana od wieków w Kościele Katolickim.
Zazwyczaj ta uroczystość odbywa się w okresie Bożego Narodzenia, szczególnie między Bożym Narodzeniem a
Świętem Trzech Króli. Niektórzy ludzie proszą także o błogosławieństwo domu zaraz po zakupie lub przed
zamieszkaniem w nowo wybudowanym domu.
Ale jaki jest sens tej praktyki dla parafian? Odwiedzanie swoich parafian w ich domach jest jednym ze
świętych obowiązków proboszcza. Kapłan reprezentuje Kościół i całą wspólnotę parafialną. Jezus wiele razy
odwiedzał swoich wyznawców w ich domach. Spożywał z nimi chleb, czynił cuda i brał udział w rozmowach
duchowych. W momencie wysyłania swoich apostołów na drogę misyjną, mówił do nich: "Gdy do jakiego domu
wejdziecie, najpierw mówcie: „Pokój temu domowi”.
