CUPE 2268 Letter from the President and the VP Communications Dear members of CUPE 2268 I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. This has proven to be an exciting and challenging year for everyone. I am pleased to share with you some of the happenings of your local CUPE executive. We have been working hard to create a system of transparency and accountability to better serve you. The New Year is looking bright. We have both good news and bad news. Doug Kinzel has recently suffered a heart attack and is in hospital undergoing testing and surgery to follow. We extend our thoughts and prayers to Doug, Zona and family and wish him a speedy recovery. The good news everyone is anxiously awaiting is, of course, bargaining. The executive is preparing to commence bargaining in January with the initial exchange of proposed packages from both sides. Bargaining will continue in the New Year and members will be kept informed of the ongoing progress. Our finances have been reviewed and a budget created for the current year. It will be presented at the next GMM in February. Our financial statements will be audited by Judy Henley from CUPE National. Our treasurer, Deanna, has taken financial and budget training to make this happen in a timely manner. Communications for the New Year will see a voluntary mailing list that members may sign up for agendas and minutes prior to any GMM or executive meeting. In addition, any information pertinent to the local membership will be mailed to your personal email. Our hope is you, the membership, will have a chance to review our work and will provide feedback at the GMM’s. A notice will be sent to all locations with sign up instructions in the coming days. Additional information will also be posted to our website in the coming weeks to complement what is currently online. Our newest members are fitting in well and looking forward to extensive training to come in the new year. I would like to extend my sincere wish that everyone has a blessed Advent season and enjoys the upcoming holidays. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
