Amina Iro is a spoken word artist from Maryland, USA , currently attending the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. She has performed at several prestigious venues including the John F.
Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, the Washington Convention Center, and the Auditorium
Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
Hannah Halpern is a Jewish slam poet from the greater Washington, DC area. She is an alumna of
the DC Youth Slam team and has performed all around the DC area as well as Baltimore, Chicago,
New York, Philadelphia, and Herziliyah, Israel. She is attending Oberlin College as a freshman this
year.
The two made waves with their performance piece (above, on You Tube) comparing the lives of
young Jews and Muslims. They will be presenting sessions about their poetry and work together at
this year's Limmud Conference in Coventry at the end of December. (Limmud is a UK Jewish
institution, a time and place for those interested to focus on Jewish learning, study, and argument,
sometimes for a day, in this instance for five days. There's also, of course, films and dance and even
sessions on meditation. And food. And talking. And thinking.)
