“ The College of Estate Management offered me a flexible platform

organised, comprehensive and informative course structure, and I
believe CEM offered me the ideal setting for this.”
Shyam Visavadia
Graduate Project Manager, EC Harris, London, UK
“ During my role as an RICS APC Assessor, I have been impressed by the high standard
achieved by candidates who have studied with the College. The close links that exist between
the College and both RICS and CIOB ensure relevance of course content to the Real Estate

“ Having started working as an assistant in a rural surveyors’ practice with no previous experience, the College was recommended
to me by colleagues as an accessible pathway to becoming qualified. I found the College to have an excellent reputation and I was
impressed with the variety of courses on offer for all sectors of the surveying and construction industry.
The main attraction of part-time distance learning was the flexibility to fit study around my work commitments and reinforce my
learning with practical day-to-day experience in the workplace. I felt that managing my own study timetable would improve my
time management skills and ability to cope with deadlines – skills which I could reflect in the workplace.”
Jennifer Wookey
Trainee Rural Surveyor, Edwin Thompson, UK
“ Being able to add an academic dimension
through an accredited qualification really gives
you that special edge. My MBA has certainly
raised my profile, as a result of which I was
able to secure interviews for very high-level
and strategic roles.”

“The MBA in Construction & Real Estate is an interesting course because it offers the broad curriculum of an MBA but is focussed
within a specific sector. The benefit of this is that it allows you to apply your new knowledge immediately within your own
organisation, whilst considering the overall industry from a range of different perspectives. Upon completion of the program you
have a much deeper appreciation of the complexity involved in running a company within this sector, but you are equipped with
the skills to recognise, understand and manage the dynamic relationships between different business functions. This knowledge
will ensure you are a highly valuable asset to any organisation.”

“ The course structure is logical and it guides you through the business world. The coursework allows you to draw on and
understand the decision-making processes of businesses. I have started to analyse corporate situations differently and I can
unequivocally say that I am using the knowledge from the course in my everyday business life. I would recommend the MBA
programme to any management-based professional in the Real Estate industry and I firmly believe studying on the CEM MBA
programme has made a difference to both my professional and personal life.”

High-level roles
“ In the modern world, flexibility is the key to success. That
means being able to take opportunities as they come up and
see them through. Construction management in its widest
sense needs flexibility backed by a sound knowledge base.
The partnership of the CIOB and CEM is founded on that
philosophy. CEM is a world-class organisation with excellent
programmes that bring out the best in their students,
evidenced by the many high-level roles carried out by CEM
graduates around the world.”
Chris Blythe, CEO, Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)
“ The reason for my success was the equilibrium found between family life, work and study, which was made possible by
my family, employer and CEM. I believe that the format of the courses is ideal for professionals and without it I don’t think
I would have been able to attend a full-time course and achieve my goal of being the first female RICS-certified valuer in
Albania. So, thank you to CEM!”

Valuable role
“ The need for highly qualified professionals has never
been greater. The College of Estate Management plays a
major role in surveying education, not only in the UK, but
around the globe. Having provided access to good-quality
professional and vocational education to people wanting
to work in the world of land, property and the built
environment for almost a century, the College has played
a very valuable role. I personally hope this will continue
for many years to come.”
Michael Newey, President 2013-2014,
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
“ Having worked in the construction industry in numerous roles over the past 10 years’ I realised that the next level was
to obtain a professional qualification and membership of the CIOB. CEM appealed to me as it offered the only distance
learning programme available in my subject; the modules were all relevant to my daily role and the teaching is well
known in the industry for being of a very high standard. I recommend the CEM experience to anyone interested in a
professional career within the property industry.”

“ I chose distance learning as an option as it allowed me the flexibility of learning and earning at
the same time. It also afforded me the opportunity to apply some of this learning immediately
as opposed to the usual linear knowledge and then application lifecycle associated with
conventional full-time courses.”
Ron Lewis, MBA
Project Services Manager, EnQuest
“ Distance learning was a new term for me when I started and I was hesitant that it might not
be as effective as face-to-face teaching. However, I was wrong. The VLE and the tutors gave
me the opportunity to feel that I was interacting with them in real time. It provided a platform
for forum discussions and has been helpful in my assignments.”
