Babcock is contracted to deliver phase 2 and phase 3 career courses to RAC, INF,
RE and RA soldiers during 14 separate course types. We currently deliver over
38,000 student training days within the three Armour Centre (ARMCEN) Schools.
The three schools are: Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) Communication and
Information Systems (CIS) school, AFV Gunnery school and the AFV Driving and
Maintenance (D&M) school.
Training
Summary of core services
All instructional and instructional support staff have
qualified at the ARTD School of Leadership Support
(ASLS) and all instructional staff hold the Certificate
to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTTLS) as
a minimum. Further, the vast majority of instructors
hold coaching and mentoring awards. Instructional
line managers have all completed the Army Instructor
Supervisor (AIS) course at ASLS and the training
operations manager is a qualified Army Instructional
Leader (AIL).

Within the AFV D&M School, Babcock personnel are also
responsible for ensuring that students meet the criteria
set by the relevant awarding bodies to achieve NVQ
qualifications and elements of apprenticeships. Many
of the instructional staff hold Assessor (A1) and Internal
Verifier (IV) qualifications as required by the external
awarding bodies.

Maintenance
Babcock provides vehicles and drivers to meet training
and administrative requirements. This includes fleet
management services; Level 1 inspection, maintenance
and repair for a fleet of 186 AFVs, 98 green fleet
B vehicles, 50 white fleet vehicles and 40 ancillary
equipments. Other associated work includes provision of
mobile crane operations to support elements of training,
inspection and testing of communications equipment
and inspection and testing of lifting and recovery
equipment.

They are kept abreast of new techniques and procedures
by attending equipment and techniques courses needed
as a result of the continuous performance review
process or competency matrix reviews to ensure all
employees are and remain competent for the work they
undertake.
A customer support service provides a single focal
point for all resource related requirements including
processing bookings, amendments, breakdown and
Level 2 repair requests.
Babcock uses the military supply system for the
provision of NATO codified spare parts for equipment
maintenance and repair although certain items, such as
tyres and windscreens, are obtained and fitted by local
suppliers under the MoD Direct Repair Scheme (DRS).
All maintenance personnel have undergone appropriate
recognised training and have the right experience for
their employment; all staff are encouraged to attain NVQ
L2 in automotive engineering.
Support Services
Babcock provides full support to the Armcen using
the MoD supply chain. In addition to QM(A) and QM(T)
stores management, Babcock provides physical training
instructors (PTI) and lifeguard support to the garrison
gym. All PTIs are military qualified and meet mandated
CPD training. Babcock also manages the ammunition
compound providing suitably qualified personnel to fill
the role.
