This week students took a walk to downtown Holly Springs in order to learn about the Holly Springs Tourism & Recreational Bureau. “I hope to provide the students with a visual for evaluating the local economy and have them really engage in discussion with Mrs. Buffington on the question of the place of heritage tourism in the new economy.” Students exploring the city is a winwin for all involved, according to LaKisha Buffington, executive director of the Holly Springs Tourism & Recreation Bureau. “I deeply appreciate the students coming to visit us,” said Buffington. “We’d love to get more involved in Holly Springs from an economic and educational standpoint. “It is great for them to come here and get an education, but even greater for them to learn about our culture and our heritage. Buffington said she’d love to see more teachers get students more involved in the community. “We can definitely benefit from their talents, work on some projects together,” she said. “Their input would allow us to better serve other students.” Top photo: Pictured left to right: Charles Sturdivant, from Columbus, Miss., Antony Corthion, from Flint, Mich., Middle photo: Dreú Pettigrew, Gary, Ind. and Ian White, Calumet, Ill.
