Welcome to CCA’s 2014 Annual
Convention at The Cosmopolitan
of Las Vegas!
I am delighted to welcome you to
the premier event for competitive
carriers as CCA kicks off Super
Mobility Week in Las Vegas this
fall. CCA’s Annual Convention is
“where the carriers are,” and there
is no better place to meet and
network with decision makers and
stakeholders in the competitive
mobile ecosystem. With more than 100 carriers in our
association, CCA’s Annual Convention makes for a prime
gathering place for carriers to discuss their most pressing needs and meet with fellow stakeholders in the
wireless industry that make up the competitive carrier
marketplace.
CCA has once again put together an outstanding lineup of
speakers including keynote remarks from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Tom Wheeler on
Monday, September 8. Chairman Wheeler has time and
again stated the importance of competition in the wireless
industry, and I could think of no better speaker to address
our audience on the first day of the show. I look forward to
hearing his remarks and learning more about the FCC’s
plans for the upcoming months, as decisions on competitive policy issues, such as the 600 MHz incentive auction,
are critically important to our companies.
CCA’s Events Committee has planned an outstanding
educational program for the breakout sessions. These
sessions provide unique opportunities for attendees to
hear directly from industry thought leaders in a variety
of different areas. Breakout sessions in four tracks — The
Bottom Line (Business Development), Over the Horizon
(Technical), Standing Out (Marketing and Customer
Service) and Policy & Trends — will cover a range of
issues including Cloud Network Virtualization, Managing
Consumer Expectations, Monetizing LTE Services, and
The Regulatory Landscape in Washington, DC. The
educational sessions are a big part of the event, and I encourage you to attend the sessions.
In addition to the breakout sessions, there are a number
of educational opportunities on the Pre-Conference Day
on Monday, September 8. FierceWireless is back hosting
their Executive Breakfast on LTE Roaming, and Gigaom
BE WHERE THE CARRIERS ARE! CCA-CONVENTION.ORG
will also host a session focused on Enterprise Mobility
where they will share information from their latest study
on trends in mobile security, management and compliance. These sponsored sessions add value to the attendee experience and provide additional educational
opportunities for you to enjoy.
One very important part of CCA’s Annual Convention
each year is the Annual Meeting. Taking place on Monday,
September 8, the Annual Meeting provides all members
— carriers, associates and affiliates — the opportunity to
hear about the state of the association and meet the
2014/2015 Board of Directors who are voted on by the
carrier members. Your participation is extremely important, and I look forward to seeing you there.
Another significant aspect of the Annual Convention is
the exhibit hall. CCA’s exhibit hall is the best place to
network, conduct business, see new products and
services, and meet others in the wireless industry. CCA
events could not happen without the support of our
associate members, and I encourage you to spend time
on the floor, visit their booths and enjoy the receptions
that take place in the exhibit hall.
And don’t forget CCA’s Annual Golf Tournament on
Sunday, September 7. The golf outing has been a tradition
of CCA since the very beginning of the association; it is a
fun and unique networking opportunity for participants to
visit with old friends and meet new industry contacts.
There are limited slots for the golf tournament, so sign up
early to reserve your space at The Revere Golf Club.
It’s certainly going to be a busy week in Las Vegas this
year, and I invite you to start the week off right with
CCA. With an outstanding educational program featuring industry leaders and experts, CCA’s 2014 Annual
Convention is not to be missed.
I look forward to seeing you in Las Vegas.
Sincerely,
Jim Hyde

EXECUTIVE BREAKFAST
LTE ROAMING—WITH WHOM AND HOW MUCH?
Phil Goldstein, Editor, FierceWireless – moderator
The national carriers have all largely completed their LTE build outs, but many rural areas still
lack LTE coverage. Some competitive carriers have launched LTE networks of their own, but
do not have national footprints. What are the best ways to gain access to nationwide LTE
coverage? What issues do competitive carriers need to work through achieve such coverage,
and is it even possible? Should competitive carriers only seek to strike roaming deals with
national carriers who share their legacy 2G and 3G network technologies? Competitive
carriers also must decide whether to forge national LTE roaming agreements or regional ones.
Additional fee of $50.00 per person is required. Fee includes breakfast and refreshments.

ENTERPRISE MOBILITY—WHY HASN’T IT FAILED AND WHAT CAN
WE DO?
Cormac Foster, Research Director, Gigaom Research
No one doubts the necessity of a mobilized workforce, but enterprise mobility has stalled. Despite
years of investment and the availability of comprehensive, powerful tools, mobility has changed
very little since the advent of the iPhone. Few large enterprises have evolved their mobility
programs beyond email, calendaring, and PIM, and productivity is suffering. What is creating this
inertia, where is IT looking for solutions, and how can carriers position themselves to offer the
types of solutions enterprises require? Cormac Foster will present findings from the latest Gigaom
Research IT Buyers Survey and discuss trends in mobile security, management, and compliance.
9:15 A.M. – 2:45 P.M.
LTE FOR CCA MEMBERS—A NOT-SO-TECHNICAL TUTORIAL
Additional registration fee of $199 is required.
For the first time in the history of mobility, a worldwide standard is being deployed. Learn from the successes and
failures of network operators that deployed this technology early and what will come next with LTE Advanced.
The LTE worldwide broadband standard is changing mobility forever. In this session we will first delve into the
technologies, spectrum, deployments, ecosystems, and devices. Then we will impart an understanding of the implications and prepare you for the future as Andrew Seybold shares his observations and predictions.
This seminar is a must-attend for professionals involved in every aspect of wireless. You will understand the latest trends
