Eco-friendly phenolic resin for adhesives
SHONOL® ADM-8000 Series
Shonol® ADM-8000 series is novolac type alkyl-phenolic resin.
Shonol®
ADM-8000 series shows excellent tack and heat resistance when they are used as a
tackfier of chloroprene rubber adhesives. Generally, tack and heat resistance are
incompatible, but they became compatible by utilizing chloroprene rubber’s
crosslinking mechanism. Since the formation mechanism of expressing strength
differs from the one of normal resol type resins, chelation process by MgO is not
required.
Furthermore, the chloroprene rubber adhesives made from Shonol®
ADM-8000 series can show non formaldehyde emission. You also be able to achieve
cost-cutting because you are not required to add a formalin catcher agent.
[Features]
1. High performance in the cross-linking reactions with rubber.
2. Non formaldehyde emission
3. Chelation process free.
4. Compatible with tack and heat resistance.

1. Adhesive formulation example
Basic adhesive formulation is shown as following.
Since the less amount of MgO you add, the better strength the adhesives show, less than
(about 2% is suitable) 10% is recommended.

<Measurement conditions>
 180°peel strength : crosshead speed 200 mm/min.
 Dry strengths: At 25℃ after curing seven-day at RT.
 Strength in high temperature:
Cured seven-day at RT then measure in atmosphere at 80℃ after heating 20 min at 80℃.
 thermal aging
Cured seven-day at RT then heat at 80℃-96 hrs.
After cooling to 25℃. Measure at 25C
2. Amount of ZnO Addition, and Intensity
The relation between the amount of ZnO addition and adhesion intensity is shown below.
<Mixture>
 Rubber: Shoprene® WHV
 Phenolic resin: Shonol® ADM-8000
 Formulation is as same as the example of previous page except for the amount of ZnO.
* The appropriate amount of ZnO is 5 parts / chloroprene rubbers 100 parts
3. Amount of MgO addition and intensity
The relation between the amount of MgO addition and adhesion intensity is shown below.
<Mixture>
 Rubber: Shoprene® WHV
 Phenolic resin: Shonol® ADM-8000
 Formulation is as same as the previous page except for the amount of MgO.
* The appropriate amount of Mgo is 2 parts / chloroprene rubbers 100 parts.
4. Features of grades
