concentrate on their studies over the next few
weeks, and to ensure that they are fully prepared
for the final IEB exams. They have all received their
final exam timetables, so no doubt the anticipation
is building. I wish them every success as they
approach this important part of their school career.

Dear Parents,
On Wednesday afternoon I watched our Gr 1 to Gr 7
pupils taking part in an athletics friendly at St Mary’s
DSG.
Although the results were not important, it was very
gratifying to see the enthusiasm with which every one
of the pupils approached the event. They all gave of
their best and did the school proud with their
behaviour and turnout. The athletics season is short
and intensive, but it does provide the opportunity for
many pupils to participate.
80th Birthday Celebrations and Moon Festival
Our School celebrated its official 80th Birthday on
Friday 12th September 2014, in conjunction with the
Chinese Moon Festival.
Participation in sport is an integral part of the holistic
education of the child, and I encourage parents to
ensure that their child participates in at least 1 sport
per term. Attendance at practices is vital, and once
committed to a sport, every child is expected to
honour that commitment till the end of the season.
They are expected to attend every practice, and to be
available for every fixture.
The Life Science Matrics wrote their first final exam
yesterday. This is a sure sign that the end is
approaching fast. I encourage every Gr 12 pupil to
Wow – we are 80!
The day started off the whole School Assembly where
our new PCS Principal Mr John Gelling was formally

introduced to parents and
pupils, and this was followed
by speeches from our various
dignitaries. Mr Gelling gave us
an insight on himself and his
vision for the school’s bright
future based on education
foremost, and Mr Bue a
short synopsis on how the
school grew from its humble beginnings in 1934 to what
it is now.
The day then ended with a water fun day for all our
pupils who thoroughly enjoyed the many water slides
that were set up across our sports grounds.
As Representative Michael Hsu said “May the PCS
continue to prosper to see its 100th Birthday”.

We were most pleased to be joined by the Head of the
Taipei Liaison Office, Representative Michael Hsu and
the Director of the Overseas Community Affairs Council,
Mr David Yang. Also present were the most senior

Founding
Members
Representatives, Mr Hilton Bue and Mr Eugene Kamson.
They all took part in the school group photographs; and
after a hearty Happy Birthday sung by everyone in both
Chinese and English, the 80th Birthday Cake was
officially cut made up of 600 cupcakes.
All our learners enjoyed the cupcakes!
Thereafter we were entertained with video shows,
several song and dance routines by various school
pupils, which were enjoyed by all. The birthday cakes
were handed out as well as mooncakes to everyone
present. Our sincere thanks go to the entire Chinese
Department and all the Deputy Principals who kindly
and most ably assisted with the day’s procedures.

We had a wonderful and
memorable 80th anniversary
Deputy Principal:
Chinese
celebration at school on Friday
12 September. I would like to
take this opportunity to thank
the Chinese staff for their hard
work and other staff for their
support. A big thank you also goes to the children who were
involved in performing and the parents who attended the
assembly and shared the special moments with us.
I am very pleased to inform you that four of the Grade 12
students who did A-Level Chinese exams a few months ago
have received their results. They have achieved one “A” and
three “B”s and once again they have made our school very
proud. Well done, Faeeza Lok, Natasha Zhong, Lee Anne Ma
and Vincent Cen.
Kind regards

From the Desk of the Preparatory Sport Coordinator
Welcome back to all the parents and students of PCS. I trust
everyone enjoyed the holiday break.
On Wednesday the 17th of September the Junior and Senior
Preparatory athletes attended an athletics meeting at DSG.
The athletes were well behaved and competed in every event
to the best of their ability. We at PCS are proud of the boys
and girls who gave their best for the school and their peers.
I would like to mention that several reply slips were not
handed in, or that no communication was received regarding
individuals that were selected and were unable to attend. If
there is an event your child is selected for and is unable to
attend please feel free to contact me on
[email protected].
Next week we will be competing in the Annual Day/Night
Southdowns Athletics Meeting. There will be a bus
transporting the athletes to Southdowns College and
returning to PCS post event. Please see the “Next week at a
glance” for further details.
The College will also be playing their first game of the term
against Cornerstone College on Thursday the 25th.
Lastly I would just like to add that as of Monday the 22nd the
students will be swimming for their PT sessions.
