WORKING TOGETHER TO FIND SOLUTIONS
Solving problems together
Solving problems is not easy. We want our students to be problem solvers not problem
starters!!
It takes everyone involved to work together willingly. Torbay School has student peer
mediators, who are specially trained to help other students solve problems collaboratively.
Parents and teachers can all help by modelling the skills for problem solving.
1. Understand
Everyone involved needs to understand what the problem is. To do this, everyone needs to:

say how they feel about it

listen to what other people have to say

try to understand others’ point of view.
2. Remember the rules

no put-downs

no mean, nasty remarks

no aggressive behaviour
3. Problem solving means working together

say what you feel without blaming – Make I statements

take turns at speaking.

Talk quietly
4. Help them find the Solution
Remember to

Think about the problem.

Say what you feel.

Listen to the other person.

Brainstorm solutions.

Decide what each one will do.

Stick to what you have decided.

Talk again if the solution is not working.

Torbay School Sponsor board
In a recent newsletter, it was noted that one of our faithful sponsors "Janbells" (our school uniform provider), had their name incorrectly spelt in the newsletter. They also should have had their website details
listed as www.janbells.co.nz
Attention all busy parents: No longer do you have to actually go to Janbells in Mairangi Bay because busy
parents now have the option of buying footwear, school bags, uniforms and accessories online
at www.janbells.co.nz. Janbells can even provide iron on or sew on labels if you find your jerseys keep going missing!
Just go to the website above, click on the items you want and click on 'Shopping Cart' in the corner to arrange secure payment.
Concerned about delivery costs? Don't be! Standard overnight delivery is $5.00 and purchases over $80
are delivered FREE OF CHARGE!
And Janbells endeavour to have your order packed for delivery that very day.
Thank you Janbells for supporting the Torbay School Sponsor boards since inception.
This week’s walking school bus trophy goes to
Andrew J from the Salem route. Andrew walks
almost every day and I have never once heard
him complain! About anything! Thanks to his
Mum and Dad, Rod and Heidi, who drive every
week and always fill in when other drivers are
unavailable. What a great family to
have on the team.
