PROVEN FOUNDATION SOLUTIONS + UNMATCHED CUSTOMER SERVICE! Drill Displacement Column™ and Piles ... Serving California and the West Coast ... When shallow ground improvement is not the answer, Farrell Design-Build delivers deep Drill Displacement Column™ - DDC and Drill Displacement Pile - DDP solutions. Why DDC and DDP? Drill Displacement systems are the right solution for deep soil support. DDP is the spoiless version of Auger Cast Piles. DDC & DDP support heavy foundation loads on deep compressible soil to depths of 25-65 feet and deeper. With absolutely no vibration and quieter construction, you can be assured that adjacent neighbors will not be disturbed by DDC and DDP construction methods. DDC Footing Support & Liquefaction Mitigation Target Store in Pacific Commons, Fremont CA The Drill Displacement Column™ and Drill Displacement Pile ADVANTAGE: QUALITY Heavy crowd plus pressured CLSM/grout injection = quality. DDC = large diameter compaction grouting / well defined cemented column. STRENGTH DDP = 3,000 to 5,000 psi grout plus rebar reinforcement for high seismic strength. Use full rebar cage reinforcement for Pile Action. DDC = 500 to 2,500 psi grout and CLSM - for ground improvement and increased bearing capacity. Use single bar for Ground Anchor. CAPACITY Injection of CLSM/grout under pressure results in soil improvement in loose and soft soil zones. DDC capacity reach 50 to 150 kips ASD. With structural grout and individual rebar cage reinforcement, the DDP achieve capacities of 100 to 500 kips ASD. PROVEN FHWA cites auger cast piles - DDP as highway designers first choice foundation system for highway bridges and infrastructure in the USA. GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING CIRCULAR NO. 8 - Design and Construction of Continuous Flight Auger Piles (2007). SAVE $$ Use DDC at brownfield and contaminated soil sites to support shallow footings and control soil offhaul. Cost effective materials, save time, reduce soil offhaul, compaction grouting effect, and eliminate deep casing of sand. FAST Installed in less time than driven piles with the same and often higher capacity. Farrell Design-Build provides a full scope of foundation services. Project Briefs - Drill Displacement Column™ DESIGN-BUILD COMPANIES INC. 477361 A+B Mercy Imaging Oncology Vault at 33rd & C Street, Sacramento CA Catholic Healthcare West Medical Foundation and Swinerton-HMH selected Farrell Design-Build to complete the design and installation of Drill Displacement Column with Controlled Low Strength Material backfill (DDC-CLSM) for the Mercy Imaging & Oncology Center. Farrell installed 88 DDC-CLSM columns to depths of 45 feet inside a historic unreinforced masonry building for this new oncology vault. DDC-CLSM is a well-defined, sand-cement column, displacement ground improvement method that was used to increase the stiffness of the ground and to control deep settlement of the heavy vault. Farrell was selected because of our design-build delivery system and ability to tackle this tough soil inside a historic building, substantial cost savings, and the rapid installation of the DDC. Mission Piers at 2121 3rd Street, San Francisco CA Mill Creek California Trust and Build Group Inc. selected Farrell Design-Build for this new 7-story residential apartment and parking structure project. Farrell installed over 850 Drill Displacement Column (DDC) in January and February 2013. Langan - Treadwell & Rollo recommended the DDC system to increase the bearing capacity of contaminated fill and bay mud to depths of 36 feet and to reduce the effects of liquefaction and lateral spreading in the sandy fill. The DDC-CLSM columns for this project consisted of 18-inch diameter drill displacement holes backfilled with CLSM that was injected under pressure into the displaced hole. Thirty-six (36) of the DDC were installed with a #10 high strength threadbar for ground anchor tension resistance at the shearwall footings. This method of construction resulted in well defined, compacted DDC column diameters of 20 to 24 inches. Juniper Networks Parking Structure, Sunnyvale CA McClone Construction Company and San Jose Construction selected Farrell Design-Build for the design and installation of Drill Displacement Column (DDC) at the new 6-story parking structure for Juniper Networks corporate expansion in Sunnyvale. Farrell installed over 400 DDC to increase bearing capacity as well as to mitigate liquefaction to depths of 38 feet at this highly seismic site. Farrell also installed ground anchors in several of the DDC columns to manage seismic overturning forces at the frames. The DDC method can be used to improve soil analgous to large diameter compaction grouting and worked well to improve thin discrete loose sand zones in this soil profile. Farrell completed its work ahead of schedule at this fast paced schedule driven project. CSU California Maritime Academy - Dining Center, Vallejo CA CSU Maritime Academy and McCarthy selected Farrell Design-Build for the design & installation of Drill Displacement Column (DDC) for the new Dining Center and Bookstore project. Farrell successfully installed over 500 DDC to support the new 3-story, steel frame, dining hall structure in Vallejo. KC Engineering recommended the DDC “pressure grout” system to mitigate static and seismic settlement, liquefaction of loose sand layers, and lateral spread hazards at this site in San Pablo Bay. As the Academy sits on the historical shore in the San Francisco Bay Area in an active seismic zone, Farrell used the DDC method to drill thru rocky fill into the bay mud and loose sand layers to bedrock at depths of 36 feet. Farrell worked with KC Engineering and CSU reviewer AMEC to design and build the lateral spread buttress and building foundation support for this important CSU project.
