There will be directions to car parking from
the main entrance, just follow the signs to
designated parking areas on campus.

areas can get very busy, so we

of this booklet (page 6 and 7) can also be

700+ students

Bamford Library (map ref 20)
Tour of Engineering Facilities
This modern, eco-friendly library represents a
significant investment in the future of all our
students. The library offers access to more than
42,000 books and 3000 print and electronic
journals. It also provides a number of study
rooms and high quality computer access.
The Agricultural Engineering Innovation Centre
(AEIC), home to the National Centre for
Precision Farming, is a new £2.93m building
which opened in October 2013 and provides
‘clean’ engineering facilities including:
Faccenda student centre (map ref 21)
A ‘one-stop shop’ for students, including a
student hub, student services, careers,
placement and advisory services, the Students’
Union and Graze café. This is also where you
will register when you arrive at the open day.
Weston Building (map ref 13)
Located at the heart of the campus next to
the Regional Food Academy, the Weston
Building provides a new state of the art 250 seat
lecture theatre, IT classrooms, self-accessible
computers and a range of seminar rooms.
Tour of Science Laboratories and
Molecular Biology Laboratory
(map ref 18)
Science underpins much of our research and
teaching. The laboratory complex includes six
well equipped teaching laboratories. There are
a number of interactive exhibits here which will
be of interest to all visitors, not just those who
plan to study science based courses. There will
also be staffed tours of the Princess Margaret
Laboratories at the following times: 11.05, 11.35,
12.05, 14.05, 14.35 and 15.05.

– Research lab for tractors and machines
– Accommodation for staff
– Rooms for continuing professional
development
– A state-of-the-art lecture theatre with
space for a tractor
Another of our specialist engineering facilities is
the JCB-sponsored Engineering Design Centre,
located in the Bamford Library. It delivers
the latest rapid prototyping technology and
computer-aided design (CAD).
Various displays include:
– Student projects
– Equipment exhibition
– Computer-aided design (CAD) in the
Design Centre (map ref 20)
Staffed tours of the Engineering facilities will
take place at 12.10 and 15.10. Please meet in
the AEIC Foyer (map ref 16).
Minibus trips to the Companion Animal Regional Food Academy
House and Veterinary Services Centre
– Depart from Queen Mother Hall car park, (map ref 22) from 10.30, at regular intervals
–
Walkable distance – please follow map and
signs from the front of the Main Building
(please note this route is not wheelchair
accessible – please use minibus)
– The Companion Animal House includes a
variety of animals such as chinchillas, degus,
snakes, lizards, guinea pigs and rabbits
–
The Veterinary Services Centre is a new
purpose built facility available for teaching
and research, with an additional
commercial component in some areas.
The facility will consist of a reception area
and office, eight consulting rooms, a store,
and hydrotherapy suite (a state-of-the-art
room with the benefit of both a pool and a
canine underwater treadmill), to be used by
Veterinary Nursing, Veterinary Physiotherapy
and Animal Behaviour students
Minibus trips to the Dairy Unit
– Depart from Queen Mother Hall car park,
(map ref 22) at 10.30, 11.00, 11.30, 12.00,
12.30, 13.00, 14.00, 14.30, 15.00 and 15.30
– Leading-edge dairy unit serves 380 cows
– Innovative 40-point internal rotary milking
parlours
– Tours of the dairy will be given by staff
Provides Food students with access to many
facilities, including:
– Food processing facilities onsite – including
cheese, beer, baked goods and more
– Product Development kitchen
– Sensory Evaluation room
– Food grade lecture theatre
There will be tours of the Regional Food
Academy (RFA), which can be signed up for
at the end of the Food course talk.
Tractor and Trailer Tours
Depart from outside Queen Mother Hall
(map ref 20) from 10.00 onwards.
– See the farm and the estate from the
comfort of a trailer
– Trip lasts for about 30-40 minutes and
includes full commentary
– Look out for the pink flag outside Queen
Mother Hall
– Much busier after the larger course talks
(such as Agriculture and Animals), so
queueing times will be longer
