SME play a significant role in the German Space
Industry Landscape
… also according to the Space strategy of the
German Federal Government*
„A particular feature of the German space industry is the large
number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
involved in the development and manufacturing of subsystems and
components. It is a reflection of their high level of technological
competence that they are highly sought-after partners both at home
and abroad.
The Federal Government attaches special importance to these
firms since they frequently provide the impetus for innovation in
technologies and processes in space as well as entering into
important cooperative arrangements with scientific institutes.
Providers of test and system services and regional clusters and
initiatives also play an increasingly important role. (p.6 of the
strategy paper)

AkRK Structure
The working group of German SMEs at DLR (AkRK) is a self organized,
independent group of SMEs hosted at DLR
Any German space oriented SME* qualifies for membership
Currently ~30 members
8 meetings per year at the DLR, following the IPC schedule
PoC at DLR is the DLR SME commissioner (Uwe Soltau)

AkRK Goals
Enhancement of the competitiveness of German SMEs
Stabilization and encouragement of the involvement of German SMEs
into national, ESA and EU space programs
Lobbying for common interests vs. LSI, ESA, EU and DLR
Establishment of contacts to other nations (Czech Republic; Austria;
Belgium, .. )
Exchange of information
Harmonization of views and strategies
Development of solutions and recommendations
Organization of SME relevant events and conferences
Identification of single or common problems with ESA and EU
