NFE goes to mid-range signal analyzers
• Introduce NFE (2nd Gen.) to MXA and EXA by May 2014
• Up to 9-dB DANL improvement (specs to be set); longer delivery
lead-time expected at launch (~12 week SRT)
• An option (N9020A/N9010A-NFE) with price associated (Price:
$5,000)
• User upgradable (license-only) to the existing MXA/EXA’s
(N9020AK/10AK-NFE @ price $5,000)
• Shown as “N90x0A-NF2” in “Show system” license list
EXA
• Requires firmware Rev. A.14.00 or later
For ALL vintages of MXA/EXA!

How well does NFE work on MXA/EXA?
• The preliminary result shows significant DANL
improvement:
• This specific EXA
shows >9 dB DANL
improvement
NFE: Off
>9 dB
NFE: On
• NFE “On” needs
more average to
reduce the noise floor
fluctuation
• Specifications will
only be available 2~3
months after launch

Noise Fig ~ 5dB.
Gain >17 dB (makes N Fig of SA
negligible).
USB provides power to Preamp, and reads
factory-cal data from flash. Data includes
gain, noise fig, and S-parameter data.
“X” SA app uses amp as “remote front
end”; gain data read over USB to correct
displayed abs-amp vs frequency.
“X” N Fig app uses amp to improve noise
figure; noise data read over USB to support
“Internal Cal”.
Highest long-term frequency accuracy
Why it’s important?
 Extremely high frequency accuracy,
stability and timing stability ensures the
most precise synchronizations among
multiple radio sub-systems
Key Applications:
Key Customers:
• Installation and maintenance of BTS
• NTT Docomo
• Low-cost alternative to primary house
reference
• Ericsson
• Huawei
• US Navy …

long-term
freq. accuracy
Atomic Frequency Reference
– The Atomic Frequency Reference (AFR) is a cesium-based
atomic clock that PXA/MXA/EXA can use to discipline
(adjust) the Internal 10 MHz Reference and effectively
increasing the frequency accuracy.
– Great alternative to a Primary Reference Standard which
many labs and manufacturing facilities do not have.
– Model Number: J7203A

Source control (Opt ESC) to support extn’l mixing
(Opt EXM)
• Makes mmW scalar stimulus-response tests beyond 50 GHz
possible
 Enables the P/M/mmW EXA to control the external source with frequency
extender (eg. OML, VDI module) for high-frequency stimulus
 Enables the P/M/mmW EXA with Opt EXM and an external mixer (eg. Agilent
smart mixer) to receive the high-frequency responses
