Applications
ArmX® alloys were developed to replace armor alloys
5083-H131, 6061-T651 and 7039-T64 in applications
requiring improved strength, blast, ballistic and/or corrosion
performance. ArmX® solutions are ideal for armor vehicle
applications where lightweight, high performing armor
ballistics and blast protection is required or warranted.
Specific applications for land vehicles include armor
underbody blast shields, roof/side panels, window frames,
wheels, hatches/doors, turrets and gunner protection kits.
The machining and fabrication characteristics of ArmX®
products are nearly identical to those of previous generation
alloys. It is recommended that customers work with Alcoa to
select the best ArmX® alloy to meet specified requirements.

ArmX® alloys have up to twice the strength of the prior
generation’s armor alloys. Select comparisons of the
guaranteed minimum strength of the ArmX® alloys with the
prior generation alloys are provided.

Commercial Status
ArmX® alloys are supplied commercially to military and
customer specifications. Our product line is deployed on
military vehicles today. Military specification MIL-DTL-32375
Amendment 1 was developed and approved for ArmX®
7085-T711 and ArmX® 7085-T721 plate. ArmX® 5456-H151
plate has been added to MIL-DTL-46027K Amendment 1.
ArmX® 6055-T651 plate is now being evaluated for inclusion
in MIL-DTL-32262 and is expected to be completed in 2014.
