25-26 October 2014 Shell Eco-Marathon – The First for South-Africa Proudly hosted by University of Johannesburg’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering - Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment 14 Teams will compete for the coveted Shell Eco-Marathon SA Champions title at South Africa’s premier motor racing circuit, Kyalami Racetrack in Midrand, Gauteng this October. High school learners and tertiary students will design, build and test ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. The winning teams across categories will be based on the most distance covered using the least amount of energy. Participating teams include University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg (UJ), University of Benin and University of Lagos. Participating SA schools include: Deutsche Schule Johannesburg, IR Lesolang Secondary, Edward Phatudi, The King’s School Westrand, Maxeke Secondary and Tokelo Secondary. Shell Eco-Marathon is supported by America, Europe and Asia, with the 2014 challenge hosted by UJ’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The School is one of five schools within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment that supports rigorous research in green technology and energy efficiency. The Kyalami Race Way first opened in 1961 and played host to the first South African Grand Prix in 1967. The circuit promises an exhilarating challenge, knuckle-biting entertainment for motor sport enthusiasts, guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat!
