RITE—ESL
English As A Second Language
Providing Professionals With A Personalized Learning Program
PURPOSE
The RITE program provides an alternative pathway for
licensing teachers in the State of Wisconsin in teacher
shortage areas. The RITE program can certify Initial
Educators, as well as currently licensed teachers in
English as a Second Language (ESL).
WHAT IS “RITE?”
 Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
approved alternative licensing program
 Formal instruction in: planning and delivery of
effective instructional practices, assessment of
student progress and classroom management
 In the classroom experience and support with mentoring by school
district personnel and CESA 6 RITE Supervisors
RITE PROGRAM TUITION
 1—Year Program—$7,000
 Program length is
dependent on education
and experience and will be
determined by the RITE
Coordinator
 Candidates are responsible
for additional fees such as
textbooks and test fees.
 Initial licensure candidates
must complete the online
edTPA portfolio.
THE “RITE” ESL CANDIDATE
 Will have an on-the-job, teaching assignment working with English Language Learners
 Will obtain passing scores on the Praxis I and the Praxis II for ESOL
APPLICATION PROCESS:
 Complete RITE application online ($100 application fee)
 Submit required paperwork: RITE application, current teaching license (if applicable), transcripts,
and background check forms
 Schedule intake interview
Program Instruction:
 A blended delivery model, with face-to-face support and online instruction
