Technology Leadership:
Design flexibility and customized solutions
Weir Minerals is an original equipment manufacturer in the
truest form – we produce the end-product, but we also make
critical parts for the products and manufacture the materials
from which the parts are made.
Innovation at work
Continuous quality improvement is a way of life for Weir Minerals. Our research and design teams
continually work to develop better materials and product designs based on customer needs.
J221 Material from Weir Minerals
Silicon Carbide Polymer Ceramic
J221 material from Weir Minerals is a uniquely
designed Tungsten Carbide matrix which is
metallurgically bonded to a 4340 substrate. It
was designed for use on shaft sleeves to offer a
significant improvement in sleeve and packing
wear life where contaminated or poor flush water
conditions exist. In mill circuit, oil sands or other
severe duty applications, the J221 material is
designed to be extremely durable, reduce downtime
and increase mean time between failures.
Weir Minerals has teamed up with a leading Silicon
Carbide Polymer producer to develop components
using this uniquely formulated material. This Silicon
Carbide Polymer Ceramic, especially engineered for
use in FGD applications, is unaffected by chemistry
changes and is designed to provide the ultimate
wear and corrosion resistance.
Warman® Throatbushes with Pre-Swirl
Vanes
Warman® throatbushes featuring Pre-Swirl vanes
take wear life and reliability to the next level. The
innovative patent-pending throatbush design was
developed to improve wear life of the impeller eye
and reduce the re-circulative wear at the impeller
throatbush interface. This is accomplished through
a series of guide vanes in the pump inlet which
induce a rotational velocity in the slurry.
The Pre-Swirl guide vanes are designed to reduce
the relative velocity of the slurry to the rotating
impeller, improve the angle of incidence between
the slurry flow and the leading edge of the
impeller vanes and improve the uniformity of solids
distribution in the slurry. This creates a smoother
entry for the slurry into the impeller, which is
designed to improve wear life, reduce downtime
and provide
superior reliability.
Silicon Carbide Polymer (SiCP) is more corrosion
resistant than white cast irons, making it ideal for
handling duties that are both corrosive and erosive.
