Current Nursing Trends
Mrs. J Jain Subala, (Principal, Ojaswini Nursing College Sagar)
One of the great things about nursing is its diversity. There is truly something for everyone in
this profession. Once you've been in it awhile you also begin to know that there is also
something for every stage of a single nurse's career as well. In nursing, you can literally take
yourself anywhere you want to go.
The biggest problem is that we still need more nurses than we have. Where do we get these
nurses? How do we bring in enough help to get healthcare back up to the quality nursing
standards we want to uphold? It is a question every nursing school and nursing employer would
like an answer to. Unfortunately, the projections tell us we may never be able to keep up. But,
there is another side of nursing that we can affect. Over the past few years, we have been seeing
another influx of new specializations, career paths and degree programs to meet the needs of a
changing world. We have choices and opportunities to work in the area that brings us the most
joy and satisfaction. We also have the opportunity to go where we are most needed. What are
the current trends in patient population and new knowledge? Where are you in highest demand?
Travel nursing, especially for the experienced nurse, remains one of the hottest employment
areas for those who are willing. Choosing travel means also choosing diversity, change and new
challenges as well as excellent pay and in most cases even better benefits. The most common
locations for travel nursing are Arizona, California, Florida and Texas. For those who have an
adventurous spirit free travel, free housing and many other perks make travel nursing an
attractive option. If you're firmly planted in one area there are still multiple options. For those
with big hearts, end-of-life nurses are greatly valued for helping our aging population die with
dignity. Specialized infusion nurses successfully utilize medical advances such as implants and
inserts for venous access needed for chemotherapy and long-term medication delivery. You'll
also find many opportunities for the neonate, operating room, critical care, or hemodialysis
nurse.
Not your thing? How about the newer field of nursing informatics? We need a specialized set of
nurses who can take their practical clinical skills and weave them into the world of information
technology. Nursing informatics are employed by corporations, teaching facilities, and hospitals
for research, sales, technical training and even as systems analysts. Informatics is appealing to
the highly organized nurse who can assimilate new information quickly and effectively. It also
offers an attractive option for those who no longer want the physical demands of direct patient
care. Another tract for those leaving direct care is the role of legal nurse consultant.
For any nurse it will always be important to build on your previous education. If you're looking
toward an advanced degree, consider Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP). These nurses
provide care to the critical patient, often in the ICU or specialty critical care units. Other areas of
focus for the ACNP are psychiatry, anesthetics, or genetics. The genetic nurse acts as a
moderator between the critical genetic scientist who map human genomes to identify genetic
connections for medical conditions and those that can be affected by this information. As patient
advocates, the genetic nurse takes the scientific conclusions and interprets them for individuals
and families trying to make informed decisions about their care.

The general rule of thumb for your nursing career is: if you want to open doors of opportunity,
specialize. There‟s been a lot of hoopla about nursing lately. And rightfully so; the career
promises excellent job prospects and pays well too, who wouldn‟t want to be in it? However, the
nurses of today are much different than the nurses some 50 years back, or even a decade
back. With more technology, greater number of positions, and the option of getting the requisite
education from some of the best nursing schools in America, the profession is seeing a number
of trends and challenges for nurses today.
1. Stringent Educational Requirements : Even though the most basic requirement for a
nursing career is an associate‟s degree, many employers prefer candidates with a 4-year
bachelor‟s degree. Therefore, practicing nurses with just a 2-year degree are going for online
RN-to-BSN programs, while future nurses are strongly considering opting for a bachelor‟s
degree in nursing.
2. Greater Role of Technology: The medical field has made a lot of progress when it comes to
technology. There are scanners, MRI machines, and many other devices for diagnosing diseases,
monitoring a patient‟s health or even for administering drugs. That‟s why today‟s nurse has no
choice but to be very tech-savvy, being able to handle different equipment‟s and work with
computer-generated reports, or maintain electronic records.
3. More Male Participation: Gone are the days when nursing was a profession almost reserved
for the fairer sex. Today, the gentlemen have not been able to resist the charm of job security in
recessionary times, or just the charm of doing a fulfilling and rewarding career, and that‟s why
many men are joining the field with as much fervor as women.
4. More Emphasis on Nurse-Patient Relationships: Nurses today don‟t have to be just
passively involved in taking care of their patients. They also have to play an advisory role and
also provide emotional support to their patients. And that means developing a good rapport with
the patient and working with them on a closer, more understanding level.
5. Greater Leadership Responsibility: It‟s not just about taking orders from physicians and
following their directions anymore. Nurses today are playing a more active, leadership role, such
as in the case of a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL). So,
there‟s a greater decisive role to play when it comes to patients‟ health as well as administrative
functions, and that means much more responsibility.
6. Diverse Employer Groups: It‟s not just hospitals which employ nurses these days. With an
aging population, many nurses also work for home healthcare services, nursing care facilities,
physician‟s offices, etc. They may even be required to travel to patients‟ homes, to schools, or
community centres. Despite the emerging challenges and new trends in the profession, it
continues to be one of the most satisfying and gratifying careers in the US today. It‟s a great time
to be in this respected career field, and that‟s why working towards a nursing degree , perhaps
from an accredited online nursing school, is something worth a thought.

How to Never Lose Hope In
Near Impossible Situations
By: Mr. Kamlesh Jain & Mr. Ashish Jain
(Asst. Prof – MBA, IMEC)
In our life time we go through many struggles, difficulties, ups and downs. Some of us try to
evade it instead of overcoming it, and some try to face it. A situation where you lose hope in
everything (God, friends and even family) may seem rare at the moment, but tragedy occurs
when you least expect it to. Here are three steps by which you can never lose hope in any
situation:
1
Don't deny the reality. This is the first and most difficult step. For anyone who is either
losing or has lost a loved one, accept the loss. This is a situation common to many in
modern life, but it is often the most near impossible situation for a person. Many
questions occurs in our minds- "how will I live on without him/her ?", "will I ever find
happiness again ?" and the most popular " what do i do now ?" I understand that a sudden
change can be difficult to handle and accept, but trust me it will get better. The hardest
part in a near impossible situation by far is that one must accept a situation for what it is
and yet not lose hope for a bright new day.
2
Balance your reality and faith. i have often seen people collapsing on their knees
praying to God ( Christ, Buddha, and all other god's) to spare their beloved son, mother,
father , daughter etc. but to no effect. I won‟t say don't pray, as it gives hope to a soul
when there is no hope to be found. But I say pray when all hope seems to be lost and
never before. A practical step like getting a doctor's opinion is better than just sitting and
praying to a God.
3
Never show that you are too worried (especially to the one you are concerned
about). If he/she/they see confidence in you they will find confidence in themselves. Tell
your friend to show cheerful faces and avoid sad and gloomy expressions, it will not only
cheer up the one concerned but you and your friends as well.
Life can turn any time. That‟s why we should never lose hope. You may feel like you are at the
bottom right now, but it will turn, and one day you will find things will be better. No matter how
messed up things get, you can always pick up the pieces and start over. Everything happens for a
reason. Accept whatever comes, because God has different plans for each one of us. Even the bad
things that happen have a purpose. You just have to see the good things that come out of a bad
situation. It may not be evident now, but wait and see. There is always that silver lining behind a
dark cloud. You may lose everything you have, but remember to never lose hope. Life can
change anytime, anywhere and at any moment.

Career in Mechanical Engineering
Er. Akash Tomar (Asst Professor, ME Department, IMEC Sagar)
Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering. It is also referred to as the
„mother‟ branch of engineering. Another appealing feature of mechanical engineering is that the
application base of this field of study is extremely broad and diverse. Almost all inventions
during the ancient period and a vast majority in the modern era are direct contributions of one or
the other application of mechanics.
Traditionally, mechanical engineers have to deal with concepts such as mechanics,
thermodynamics, robotics, kinematics, structural analysis, fluid mechanics and many others.
These concepts are applied in the process of designing state-of-the-art manufacturing units,
different types of motor vehicles, aircraft and aerospace parts and a vast assortment of industrial
machinery. Mechanical engineers also contribute in the development of various engines, power
plant equipment, heating and cooling systems and other simple and complex machinery.
Mechanical engineers not only design new mechanical systems but they are also responsible for
testing, maintaining and manufacturing them.
The ever increasing scope of this particular job profile now requires professionals to get into
financial and marketing aspects of product development and even into people and resource

IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION
SKILLS TO A UNIVERSITY STUDENT:
Communication skills are the skills that every individual requires in order to send information to
an audience in the most efficient way and receive information from a sender and interpret it
correctly. A university student is in dire need of good communication skills to help him/ her
undertake all fields of activities in the university including social and academic fields. This is
because he/ she will be required to communicate in the most accurate and efficient way to make
sure that the information sent or received is perceived in the intended manner.
To start with, communications skills will help a student to have good listening habits in class.
This will ensure that the student gunners a lot from what he/ she is taught in class since she
learns to fully concentrate in the lectures and their subsequent subject matter. Among the skills
that will help the student is listening carefully, asking questions, requesting for clarification,
Responding accordingly, among other things. Communication skills will be very vital for any
university student who is a leader. To ensure that all their followers and supporters get them
clearly, and interpret their words, gestures and facial expressions correctly, the student has to
know how and when to apply these in the communication process. Without appropriate
communication skills, the students may risk losing supporters or derailing the people‟s
confidence in him or her.
5 things to improve communication skills:
Having effective communication skills is imperative for your success. Positive communication
will certainly increase the opportunities you find in your career and business. Having good
communication skills will enable you to get ahead in certain areas where others who are less
assertive may not succeed. A few things to keep your eyes on while practicing the fine art of
communication are
Body Language: Do not shy away from the person with whom you are speaking. Be sure to
maintain a relaxed, but not slouching posture, regardless whether you are the one speaking or
listening. Other things that ensure your body is communicating your attentiveness to the
conversation can include:




Making eye contact.
Nodding occasionally to acknowledge a strong point in the conversation.
Standing with hands clasped in front of you, never crossing your arms.
Not displaying nervous ticks such as wringing hands, picking at your nails, or anything
that the person communicating with you will view as a distraction from their
conversation.
Speech and Attentiveness: When speaking, you need to be clear and concise. Speak on
important matters directly and do not waste time with long drawn out stories that will cause your
listener‟s mind to wander. Make sure you ask whether they understand, and be willing to further
explain any of your points. Do not expect someone to just “know” what you are saying, even if it
is crystal clear in your own mind.
11
ARTICLES
In addition, one of the most important aspects of verbal communication is the ability to practice
active listening. This is not just actively waiting to talk. Always make mental notes of key points
when someone is speaking to you. That way once you are given a chance to speak, you can
respond to the most vital issues being dealt with. When others are speaking, try to think about the
exact words that they are saying. If you practice this, you will comprehend and contain 75
percent more of the information that you hear.
Communication Consistency: Maybe your weakness is in the quality or quantity with
which you communicate to your employees. Communication seems to have dwindled to
superficial small talk. Great communicators practice the ability of consistent communication by
remaining available. Do not be afraid to be the one who voices any concerns or difficulties.
However, ensure that you are practicing open and honest communication with those who may
depend on you. Be available and bold with tact.
Be sure to leave communication lines open to those who may need to address problems with you.
You will find that you prevent the small issues that normally have the habit of becoming large
ones by making those in your life aware that you are open to discussing issues at any time.
Patience: During your communications with others always give them time to communicate
their issues as well. Remaining focused on what they are trying to communicate will show them
that you are indeed open to assisting with their issues. Many of people‟s communication lines
tend to break down on the side where impatience is in a rush to get out of the conversation. Since
you cannot control the other side, do yourself a favor and take a breath. The conversation you‟re
involved in is important.
If you are confused as to what someone may be requesting, than repeat back to him or her what
you think they said and ask if that is correct. Often this will inspire the speaker to be more indepth about their needs, which will help you to understand them fully.
Practicing Effective Communication Skills: If someone has communicated a need or an
issue to you, then your main priority should be to aid him or her in repairing the problem.
Following up on an issue is the only way to convince others whom you need to communicate
with that you have listened to them and that their problems or issues are important to you as well.
Practicing strong follow-up will also leave the impression that you are involved in the bigger
picture. When people see this commitment, they will know you are open to future
communications. This creates a loyal and discerning surrounding that cultivates positive
movement and communication. This will develop a strong sense of confidence in those with
whom you communicate.
Conclusion: Since the world is so incredibly diverse and communications come in such a wide
variety of forms, it is important to know many appropriate and helpful interpersonal skills. By
practicing the few suggestions found here, you will find yourself understanding more of what
people say and repeating yourself less to other people. Your co-workers and friends will have the
confidence to come to you when they find themselves in need. Remember, great communication
skills take practice. Do not give up on Day One. Your ability to express yourself will grow
almost daily as long as you apply yourself in improving communication skills.

IS MBA USEFULL IN FUTURE AND FOR GROWTH?
By: Gaurav jain & Aakash choudhary (Asst. Prof – MBA, IMEC)
An MBA has long been considered a prestigious and in some cases necessary, qualification for business
leaders. From a potential employer‟s perspective, MBA holders are considered more competent due to the
qualification ability to provide candidates with excellent business and operational management skills.
However, over the last few decades, MBA‟S, master degree have become ubiquitous amongst top
professionals as higher education has become more accessible. In addition to a steadily expanding number
of universities and institutions offering MBA courses, educational flexibility has also increased in the last
decade, meaning that higher education is available through full-time or even online programs. Hence,
there has been a large rise in professional with higher level qualification particularly MBA‟S. Today the
MBA is no longer unique and has in fact become relatively common amongst senior management. As a
result while an MBA is still seen as a valuable qualification, it‟s actual worth has dropped significantly
compared to a decade ago.
Despite this down site however there is evidence to
that show MBA‟S are still relevant to employment. MBA is still a viable tool, not only for attaining
employment but for career building as well. On top of this MBA are particularly useful for highly skilled
technical professionals such as engineers who are looking to move up and break through the glass ceiling
in their jobs. An MBA degree allows candidates to gain managerial experience and knowledge in the
finance and accounting sector that they often do nay encounter in their specialized line of work.
This is particularly true of large traditional
multinational companies, where top-level management is rarely seen without an MBA candidate who is
looking to work in developing economies or high growth markets. While top MBA‟S jobs and salary
survey predicted an increase in job opportunities for MBA candidates.
Overall as with the college degree an MBA still
herds weight as a useful management qualification despite its ease of access and has today become almost
a standard educational qualification in the world of senior management while real practical experience
continues to be preferred over educational qualifications the MBA is rapidly becoming a “tick box‟‟ on
the list of requirement for executive positions. Paradoxically while the skills taught on an MBA course
may not be directly necessary for your career development the growing necessity for this qualification
means that it is still in a professional best interests to attain one.

Be Neither Confident nor Diffident
Soumitra S Pande (Asst. Professor, EC Department, IMEC Sagar)
Diffidence is something that lowers the scale of life when life can happen more beautifully.
Over-confident people are invariably tyrants. What we need is neither confidence nor
diffidence. What we need is awareness and consciousness.
Whatever I face, any kind of situation or people, the moment I sit, I just look at them and I
don't even have to think, I just see them as a part of myself, I speak to them as I would speak
to myself. To speak to yourself, you don't need confidence. The need only arises when you
have to talk to someone else. When you speak to yourself, you can say anything you want.
There is no difficulty in it; there is no greatness about it. If you just behold everybody as
yourself, there is no confidence, no diffidence. What needs to be done, you just do it.
Once there is a sense of inclusion, awareness and consciousness come naturally. Awareness
is life. Life is awareness. There is no other way to be. It is only because of exclusion that
awareness has to be practiced. People are trying to be aware simply because they have
excluded themselves from everything.
So what is needed is consciousness. Consciousness is not individual, it is always allinclusive. If you are conscious, everything is included. You need neither confidence nor
diffidence. You just function to the fullest of your intellectual capability, without any
hesitation. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna says, "Hesitation is the worst of sins". Very
strange, isn't it? Hesitation is the worst of sins because in hesitation, you don't live. Krishna
is not a teaching.
Krishna is an affirmative statement of life. He is saying that anything that is not life is the
worst sin, adharma. "Don't hesitate" does not mean to jump into every pit that you see. Your
intelligence is capable of choosing and deciding in a moment whether you need to do
something or not.
The problems of confidence and diffidence have come because you are such an exclusive
character in the world. Most of your exclusiveness you have created unconsciously. A part of
it you have created consciously because you thought that this is the way to get attention, by
trying to be special. Especially in western cultures, right from childhood, they are training
you to be special. Trying to be special is the worst disease because once you get this disease,
there is no salvation. Wherever you go, you have to do something stupid to prove that you
are special. All-inclusiveness is extra-ordinary. It is just a way of life. When I say inclusion,
it is not something that I have made up this is the way Existence is. It is only in inclusiveness
that Existence is functioning. If you are so exclusive, why are you inhaling what I exhale?
Try to breathe separately and see; you will be dead. It is only in inclusiveness that life is
happening.
When we talk about inclusiveness, we are not teaching you a new philosophy. We are talking
about leading life the way life is, just ordinary, as it is. It is ordinary but it is magnificent.

Many of the MBAs work with were unaware of the professional possibilities available to them
before they attended 13 school and many others change career as a result of their MBA further
more earning an MBA can signify to an employer that you can handle the pace of a demanding
job; you have the drive, determination and time management skills to succeed.
Senior level roles offer greater compensation and there is much evidence that the
initial MBA on your cv can lead to salary growth as well. Even though an MBA can be
expensive an MBA graduate is likely to receive a return on their tuition investment within three
to five year.
MBA is a globally recognized brand that can open door to a new network of
associates from diverse industries and driver lands. Student colleagues, faculty and alumni all
contribute to your new network and offer unparalleled opportunities for future collaboration
additionally business school events can help you have your professional networking skills.
While you may be inspired to jump the career leader , create new networks and
open doors you‟re never dreamed of, sometimes the best reason to take an a new challenge is
simply personal happiness ultimately this must be your number one reason for pursuing an
MBA.

Blood Donation camp
IMPORTANCE OF BLOOD DONATION
All donations to charity make a difference, whether they consist of money, clothing, or simply a
couple of hours spent volunteering. While every contribution is equally important, nothing is
comparable to the donation of human blood. In spite of the remarkable achievements of medical
science today, there is no factory that manufactures blood. It is only in human beings that human
blood is made and circulated. For those who require blood for saving their lives, sharing from
other fellows is the only means. Hence, donation – rather voluntary donation is the only way of
accumulating blood at safe storage to meet emergency requirements for saving lives.
Blood Donation and its Advantage: Blood donation, the voluntary act of allowing one′s
blood to be drawn out of body has many advantages. No doubt the first and foremost advantage
of donating blood is the exalted feeling of saving someone′s life. If we donate the little excess
blood in our body, it could save someone′s life without creating any problem for us.
The average amount of blood present in an adult is 4-5 liters or about 8% of the body weight.
Life cycles of the different components are short. The RBC lives about 120 days while white
cells last about 3-9 days. New blood cells are constantly generated in the body. A person can
29
REMEMBERING 2013
Donate blood 168 times during his
18 to 60 years. The quantity of blood
present in 1kg of body weight is
76ml for males and 66 ml for
females. Out of this 8 ml per kg body
weight can be donated. Males can
donate for every three months while
females for every four months. All
donated blood is recuperated within
21 days. At one time only 350 ml
will be taken from a donor.
Blood donation is harmless and safe in the body: Rather, it is a social responsibility.
The donor is donating for it as it will be used in saving lives of his fellow beings. He himself
may use the same in his own need. So today‟s donor may be tomorrow‟s recipient. The whole
process of blood donation - from the time you arrive until the time you leave - ordinarily lasts no
more than one hour. The donation itself takes only about fifteen minutes. Your single donation
can help as many as three people, and can be at a hospital in as little as 48 hours, ready for a
critically ill patient.
Blood donation also burns the extra calories and reduces your cholesterol
level: After donating blood, the count of blood cells decreases in our body, which stimulates the
bone marrow to produce new red blood cells in order to replenish the loss. So, it stimulates the
production of new blood cells and refreshes the system. In times of accidental injuries that shed
huge amounts of blood and also in various types of surgical operations for medical treatments,
blood is required for transfusion. Unavailability of blood may cost lives. Hence, importance of
blood donation is tremendous. This is the greatest gift one can do for the mankind. The Ojaswini
Nursing College Sagar organized Blood donation camp organized by HDFC Bank Sagar in
collaboration with Government Blood bank, Tilli Hospital, Sagar on 6 th December 2012 and 53
students and staff were donated blood.
