Brussels, 7th November 2014
INTRODUCTION
The present publication is dedicated to the project participants to the Thematic
Cluster meeting on Knowledge Alliances; The 'Knowledge Alliances Pilot Call'
projects managed by the Directorate General for Education and Culture (DG
EAC), the 'Knowledge Alliances Projects' (EKA) selected in 2012 and 2013 by
the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), and also a
selection of 2013 'Erasmus Quality and Relevance through Cooperation Projects'
(EQR) that are thematically related also managed by the Education, Audiovisual
and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
The Compendium is a contribution to a better dissemination of information
about ongoing projects and networking tool among project coordinators.
In this Compendium you will find a short description of each project, the contact
details of the beneficiary and coordinating organisations and a list of partners
involved in the project. The projects are grouped by action and by priority
(for multilateral projects) and further listed in numerical order of the
beneficiary organisation. This will allow you to easily identify projects
coordinated by organisations or obtain an overview of themes and subjects
covered under individual actions. Please note the Compendia reflect the state of
projects at the beginning of their life, which means that data such as duration,
composition of the partnership or contact details may change during the lifetime
of the project.

538252-LLP-1-2013-1-BE-ERASMUS-EKA
Competences for industrial pharmacy practice in biotechnology
The aim of this project is to produce a panel of industrialists and educationalists
that will propose the competences and outcomes required for education in
biotechnology, of future and current employees of the pharmaceutical industry.
These will then be put on an interactive surveymonkey (https://
www.surveymonkey.net/) website and ranked using Delphi methodology in
importance by a wider panel of industrialists and academics (drawn in a first
stage from EIPG and EAFP membership with a snowballing effect for recruitment
of others). Using several rounds of the Delphi process, a consensual, hierarchal
list of competences and outcomes will be produced and possible factoid
competences removed. The list will then be used to adapt the education and
training in biotechnology given at HEIs.
All information will also be freely available with no copyright or ownership issues
involved, to other European organisations, associations, HEIs, big pharma, etc.
wishing to produce similar courses. Through its European network of Member
Associations, the European Iundustrial Pharmacists' Group will advertise the
results of the project to employees of the pharmaceutical industry. The European
Association of Faculties of Pharmacy and the PHARMINE network will ensure
dissemination to academics. In all cases dissemination will be through classical
channels: websites, conference presentations, email newsletters, and journal
articles.
This project will have a substantial impact on employees of the drug industry
provding them with the skills they need in a fast-changing world. This will impact
on the competitivity of the European pharmaceutical industry. Ultimately the
project will impact on the well-being of the European population through the R&D
and production of safer, more effective, modern-day medicines.

Linking Industry and Academia in Teaching Pharmaceutical Development and
Manufacture
The pharmaceutical industry continues to develop to respond to challenges of an
ageing population and more complex medicinal products. Significant
developments in pharmaceutical product development include a shift towards
Quality by Design in manufacturing processes, the increasing importance of
biopharmaceutical (large molecule) products and the move to stratified
medicines, which will result in company product portfolios becoming much more
expansive.
Industrial pharmacists should be equipped to respond to the challenges of the
rapidly changing environment in which they work.
In this project we will:
• Explore the learning needs of pharmacy students in relation to the required
competencies in industrial pharmacy at the undergraduate and postgraduate
level in the different (participant) countries;
• Work together (academia and industry) on the development of curricula that will
ensure the required competencies for industrial pharmacist are covered at an
appropriate level. Focus will be placed on enhancing student engagement,
developing problem solving skills and encouraging innovation and
entrepreneurial thinking.
• Work to develop and deliver joint structured programmes which may be
delivered as part of a structured PhD programme and/or continuing professional
development (CPD) courses for industrial pharmacists and other professionals
working in the bio/pharmaceutical Industry with a focus on bio/pharmaceutical
product development and manufacture.
The project will result in changes to the undergraduate pharmacy curricula being
made in an industry-informed manner, with industry partners contributing to
teaching on undergraduate courses.
Programmes with a focus on innovation in product development and
manufacturing phase of the product life cycle will be developed and delivered to
PhDs students/academics in Schools of Pharmacy in the participant countries
and will be made available to pharmacists currently working in industry in
response to their CPD needs.

Concurrent Design Framework for eLearning in IT Entrepreneurship
distributed Concurrent Design Framework for eLearning in IT Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurial ability is closely linked to the personality, cannot be taught in the
traditional sense, but can be developed through training.
dCCDF project will address the following 2 factors
*THE graduates need more than just their degree to access employment. Their
future employers across all sectors ask for and need greater capacity for
entrepreneurial thinking and also experience in cooperation both at a distance
and across cultural boundaries.
*The potential for knowledge transfer between HE and industry needs to be
improved.
The consortium will jointly develop an entrepreneurial training that is designed to
fit and bring together HE students and professionals within the IT sector. In this
process they will use the Osterwalder business model framework developed for
both personal and business development. It will raise their entrepreneurial
awareness and promote bilateral knowledge transfer through collaboration
between the two groups of learners
In a globalised world it is increasingly routine to collaborate online therefore the
proposed training will be offered online.
The training will be
• offered online
• comprise a mixture of HE and industry-based learners
• focus first on personal development plans
• require small groups of learners to become familiar with their respective
institutions’ innovations
• progress to a business development plan
• include an internal dissemination plan
• end with a peer-reviewed online presentation
CCD is a highly structured process method to exploit the different stakeholders’
often conflicting requirements in an optimal way, thereby increasing collaboration
and involvement in groups such as
• Participants in an EU project
• A group creating an entrepreneurship training
• Students in an entrepreneurship training where they have to link the interests of
different stakeholders at both universities and companies in preparing a business
plan.

The European Business Growth Catalyst Training Programme for SMEs
The European Business Growth Catalyst (EBGC) project will develop a new
blended learning programme for managers and owners of European Small to
Medium Sized Businesses (SMEs), to grow their businesses, innovate and
become more European in their focus and trade.
EBGC responds directly to the contemporary European context of the crisis, in
which business growth for SMEs in partner countries of UK,ES and EL is a
paramount concern for future job and wealth creation (SBA, 2012). Via a
consortium of EU HE Institutions and SME partners, dedicated to developing
skills in growing European Business and wealth creation, EBGC re-inforces the
contribution of Higher Education across Europe to Advanced Vocational
Education (see Life Long Learning Programme, Strategic Priorities 2013, p 19).
Jointly developed and delivered by HE and SMEs, EBGC will consist of 7
modules to cover different elements crucial to understanding and taking action to
innovate and internationalise in European SMEs. Materials will be in EN, EL and
ES. Training the Trainers materials will also be developed to pass on the
methodology to others. EBGC methodology will link learning about business
growth with the actions needed to ensure business growth and innovation. The
pedagogic principles are based on action learning, i.e. a learning style which
requires learners to undertake specific actions, based on guiding methods,
followed by the abstraction of lessons drawn from the actions in a specific
context. These pedagogic principles are to be applied in both face-to-face
contexts, and also mediated via e-learning technology. A Learning Hub online
will provide communities of learning for all target groups (SME Owners/
Managers; HE educators and SME/VET trainers). Impact will be on European
SME’s immediately, enabling growth (envisaged in job creation) as a result of the
learning. Impact will be also in the long term, via SME’s whose role it will be to
operationalize the EBGC beyond the life of the project.

Universities-Companies Crowdsourcing
One of the main reasons to undertake this project is related to strengthen links
between Companies and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and to improve
different solutions given by students and professors to companies. We aim to
contribute to the “new learning and teaching methods” by creating a platform to
match company needs and students projects. All partners involved consider
important to develop new methods to gather these two realities, and as a result
we intend to create a community that will work together and will solve real
problems. One other reason is to promote an European network between
companies (in this specific project, those related to energy) and HEI’s and
decrease the regional networks where a company in one country only work with
HEI’s from the same country. We want to contribute to better students for all
European space and not only for our countries.
Our main objectives are:
a) To transfer the crowdsourcing model into the academic environment;
b) To promote the cooperation between companies/ HEI’s;
c) To contribute to European economic growth thought more well trained human
resources;
d) To develop a system of incentives that promote the involvement of academics
with the business environment;
e) To promote the use of technologies into the classes;
f) To promote the mobility between European partners, since a group from one
country could have the best solution for a problem from a company in another
country;
g) To contribute to the discussion of better solutions for the energy field;
h) To create a network of companies and HEI’s in the field of energy;
I) To promote curricula development foster by companies involved in the
consortium;
J) To run a pilot study, that will join together students, companies and professors,
from various countries;
L) To display a teaching training to use the platform as a pedagogical tool.

Bioinnovation and Entrepreneurship: a Knowledge Alliance for biotech
entrepreneurship education
The goal of BIOINNO - a Knowledge Alliance in biotechnology - is to develop an
effective route to entrepreneurship education to ready the next generation of
talents to turn ideas into action and to develop entrepreneurial capacities and
mindsets.
BIOINNO proposes new learning and teaching methods that rely on structured
programmes to improve mobility between its partners from Industry and
Academia and increase knowledge sharing through: courses in entrepreneurship
specifically designed for under and postgraduate students, internships designed
to better benefit both entrepreneurship students and SMEs; cross-border mobility
and short-term exchanges of educators and researchers.
BIOINNO will provide the educational prerequisites needed to enable students to
develop their own-ideas and build self-confidences, and to foster the successful
birth and development of innovation-driven ventures in Europe. This will be
achieved during the twenty-four months collaborative education pilot project
through elite entrepreneurial programs, starter seminars, crash courses,
internships, online and offline networking, business plan competition and
incentive systems involving 5 EU countries with appropriate localization for
language, socio-cultural and context factors.
The consortium consists of 8 partners (3 prestigious universities, 1 European
business university network, 1 Development Agency, 1 Innovation Centre
grouping academic spin-off and research institutions, 1 research and innovation
company, 1 Marketing company).
Surveys and interviews will assess needs and impact of creativity competencies
on entrepreneurship. Findings will be used to better formulate and design
entrepreneurship teaching courses, which will be validated through pilot
activities.
The project outputs/products/results will be an innovative model for teaching
entrepreneurship in the biotechnology sector, training and networking modules
and the entrepreneur’s guide to a biotech start up.

Higher Education and Enterprises: Knowledge Alliances for the Training of
Entrepreneurs
HEKATE aims at supporting the spread of knowledge alliances to foster
entrepreneurship by encouraging senior R&D managers in research intensive
industries to become more pro actively engaged with HEIs. While many
programmes exist to encourage business start-ups, the key role that larger
companies can play in encouraging entrepreneurship is often overlooked.
European multi-nationals are leading the way in ‘Open Innovation’: they are
significant funders of research at HEIs, they act as partners, customers and
investors in SMEs, and through promotion of intrapreneurship in their own
organisations and not least by being active in corporate business venturing, they
also support start-up ventures. Europe has excellent managerial competencies in
multi-nationals, but it remains often an untapped resource when it comes to
strategically fostering entrepreneurial skills in HEIs. Experienced R&D directors
span both the world of research and business: individually and corporately they
can be inspirational for students and researchers to engage in business creation.
HEKATE seeks to explore how this can be developed.
At the core of the HEKATE partnership is the European Industrial Research
Management Association (EIRMA).
EIRMA’s membership is over 120 companies with significant research and
innovation activities in Europe. It provides access not only to highly competent
innovation managers, but also an effective route to promote the Knowledge
Alliance agenda across all of Europe, independent of any sector. A small
partnership of two HEIs currently engaged in researching entrepreneurship,
Hamburg University of Technology’s Institute for Marketing and Innovation in
Germany, and Manchester Business School, within Manchester University, one
mature knowledge transfer organisation attached to HEIs with decades
experience of supporting business start-ups, TuTech, together with an industrial
partner Solvay will form this particular Knowledge Alliance, but with the aim to
engage widely.

Virtual Alliances for Learning Society
VALS will establish sustainable methods and processes to build knowledge
partnerships between Higher Education (HE) and companies to collaborate on
resolving authentic business problems through open innovation mediated by the
use of Open Source Software (OSS). OSS provides the means whereby HE
institutions, students, businesses and foundations can all collaborate to resolve
authentic business problems. Not only does OSS provide the necessary shared
infrastructure and collaborative practice, the foundations which manage the
software are also hubs which channel the operational challenges of their users
through to the people who can solve them. This has great potential for enabling
students and supervisors to collaborate in resolving the problems of businesses,
but is constrained by the lack of support for managing and promoting
collaboration across the two sectors. VALS will:
- Provide the methods, practice, documentation and infrastructure to unlock this
potential through virtual placements in businesses and other public and private
bodies
- Pilot and promote these as the “Semester of Code”
The consortium of eight is composed of equal numbers of HE institutions and
SMEs who have a focus on OSS, and is completed by a number of OSS
foundations as associate partners who have committed to collaborating in the
Semester of Code by providing access to problems and problem owners.
To achieve its goals the project will develop guidance for HE institutions, and for
businesses and foundations, detailing the opportunities and the benefits to be
gained from the Semester of Code, and the changes to organisation and practice
required. A Virtual Placement System will be developed, adapting Apache
Melange, and extending it where necessary. In piloting, the necessary
adaptations to practice will be carried out, particularly in HE, and commitments
will be established between problem owners and applicants for virtual
placements. The Semester of Code approach will then be mainstreamed.

Collaborative Reformation of Curricula on Resilience Management with Intelligent
Systems in Open Source and Augmented Reality
The project wants to contribute to the reform and implementing of curricula in
resilience management with the collaboration of not academic partners through
the elaboration and offer in an open source platform, of a model that
comprehensively reflects best practices from business companies, NGOs and
government in managing operational resilience across the disciplines of business
continuity management, security management, post catastrophe practices and IT
operations management. The collaborative approach between academic and not
academic organizations will overcome the existing inadequacy of university
courses, curricula and syllabuses that do not meet the needs of the world of
labour from one side and the lack of professional skills and attitudes from the
other. The main results of RESINT are: Structured Educational Programmes
(BSc, MSc, PhD) with syllabuses and courses; Pilot modules framed in Short
Courses on Resilience Management; Tools based on Augmented reality and
Intelligent Computer Learning Systems (its integration) implemented; Innovative
didactical methodology (Simulimpresa) applied; Training courses with internship
and stage in external organizations; Dissemination; Career and placement
service implemented; Agreements between Universities and Enterprises. All
these results will be made available by an open source WEB Site managed by
the Project Network and freely disseminating Project Results. Once the virtual
network will be created, it will attract new users because it provides an innovative
method for delivering educational/training content for resilience management.
Based upon the issues and resources identified in the study previous to this
project proposal, RESINT consortium may wish to consider the following areas of
potential future work: Address the platform issue; Build Continuing Education to
support the online learning; Developing further projects in this field particularly as
it concerns collaborative educational network governance.

Reshaped Partnerships for Competitiveness and Innovation Potential in
Mechanical Engineering
The competitiveness of European industry is a vital requirement for wellbeing in
Europe. The companies have constant need for product, process and production
development. Most European higher education institutes (HEIs) provide high
quality engineering education and research, but their resources are not utilized
for a broad support of industry. The RePCI-project collates the needs of the
industry and finds new ways to answer them in order to support the
competitiveness of European mechanical engineering companies.
In RePCI project four main fundamental changes into university-company
cooperation are promoted:
1) From random to strategic cooperation
2) Competency coaching program for companies
3) Real life problem solving process to facilitate new industrial cooperation for
students and staff
members
4) Connections of the HEI network to form strong supply of expertise
RePCI creates new value adding and goal oriented operational and sustainable
partnerships between companies and HEIs. New learning and teaching methods
in companies and in HEIs are created and demonstrated during the project.
Trained competency coaches from partner companies and HEIs are analysing as
twosome the learning needs of the staff of companies and planning and
monitoring the implementation of tailored in-company educational solutions
focusing on removing the bottlenecks of competitiveness. Real life problem
solving processes involve students and staff of HEI’s in solving problems given
into the process by the companies. A platform is built to serve the cooperation of
HEIs and companies with emphasis on easy access and usability of the platform.
All activities are done in international cooperation bringing additional value to
companies, staff and students of HEIs’. Close cooperation in the processes
expose both company and HEI staff (and students) into new ways of thinking and
new ideas creating a perfect environment for improving skills and new
innovations.

Inclusive Human Resources Management Practices for Older Workers
The aging of both population and workforce is a global issue that has created
concern about labour and skill shortages in many of the developed countries. In
European countries, if nothing is done, there could be only one person employed
for every retiree by 2050, at the same time that labour market could shrink by
nearly 15%. This would come with heavy costs to companies’ competitiveness,
to the social security systems and to social cohesion, as old-aged population is
the group more vulnerable to poverty.
One way to address this problem is to encourage Older Workers (55 - 64 yo) to
remain active members in the workforce. This possible solution faces difficulties,
thought. Negative stereotypes towards these workers and an actual lack of
knowledge on how to approach, from an HR management perspective, many of
the challenges of recruiting and retaining Older Workers, reflect on low
employment rates for this group.
The iHRM project aims to develop an innovative training course for HR
managers , based in m-learning, to help European organisations deal with the
challenges of an aging workforce by addressing inclusive HR practices for Older
Workers. This main objective will be achieved by:
- Identifying and addressing work environment constraints to the participation of
Older Workers’s in the labour force
- Identifying adequate inclusive HR practices for recruiting and retaining of Older
Workers
- Developing and implementing an m-learning course to better prepare HR
managers to the challenges of the aging workforce, available in EN, NL, PT, ES,
SI, PL and DK
- Disseminate the results Europe-wide next to target groups, namely HR
managers and HEI, to maximize the impact of final outcomes
As a result, the partnership expects to give a contribution to prepare HR
managers for their new job requirements, to an increase on the European
organisations’ competitiveness and general performance and to a wider
participation of Older Workers in the European labour market.

Promoting Environmentally Sustainable SMEs
The issue of environmental sustainability is of major importance to both
academic institutions and the industry. On the one hand, academic institutions
are forced to come up with methodologies and strategies to reduce the burden of
human activity on the environment, and this task can be particularly extensive,
ranging from simple software design (e.g. smart energy systems), to more
elemental approaches, such as discovering alternative technologies to create
and process food with respect to natural resources. On the other hand,
enterprizes are in need to quickly adapt their functioning and operations
according to global standards for environmental sustainability . In both cases,
there is an obvious need to create linkages that will facilitate both sides (higher
education institutions and the industry) achieve their goals. In the course of
achieving environmentally sustainable company operations within the EU, it is
necessary to build strong connections between related academic institutions and
research centers and the world of work. The process of becoming sustainable
requires enterprises to educate and train their executives and decision-makers
about a range of environmental issues, green practices and policies. The
proposed project (PrESS) responds to that need by aiming to enhance the skills
of European enterprises for environmental sustainability and management of
their supply chains. Project PrESS will utilize mixed methods approaches to
develop a tailor-made web-based decision support tool for low carbon operations
targeted to EU enterprises. This tool will be developed based on the realistic
needs and knowledge gaps of enterprises, and help enterprises achieve the
goals of EU202 agenda and the EU Small Business Act for environmental
challenges and climate change.

SME Leaders and Sustainability: Deliberative Engagement
The difficult economic climate is increasing pressure on EU businesses to be
more resilient and sustainable. Many SME leaders focus on short-term survival.
Their recovery strategy “..is to adopt a passive survival orientation and ‘to wait
and see’ [or an] active retrenchment focussing on cutting costs..” (EU
Commission – DGENTR, 2010, p.12). They do not contribute as much as they
might to shaping policy and solutions although the EU has taken steps to
address this (Small Business Act). This pilot project will build a targeted,
demand-driven Executive Programme, consisting of education and business
support tools, which will help SME intermediary leaders to be more effectively
engaged in addressing longer-term issues of sustainability. The HEIs and
business Partners will use innovative Deliberative Engagement (DE) processes/
techniques to work with SME intermediaries and collaborate to develop a set of
DE tools aimed at securing the pro-active participation of SME leaders. SMEs
are the major employers in Europe (EU Commission – DGENTR, 2010, p. 15),
their self-activated and additional contribution to solving the long term issues
facing them is essential. The intention of this project is that as the process of
engagement progresses additional core sustainability issues will be revealed,
and DE can be applied to their resolution. This pilot project includes a plan for
HEIs to work with business intermediaries to develop their capabilities to engage
effectively with SMEs: it offers tailor-made training, a DE guide and will assist in
setting up sustainable SME networks in conjunction with HEIs. The pilot will
create a mechanism for an enduring relationship between SME intermediaries
and HEIs as the DE process and will identify new and emerging SME concerns
and issues which can then be addressed through the on-going training
programmes and a suite of supporting materials. New pedagogical models and
extended research agenda will be developed as a result of this work.

Building Social Capital by Improving Multicultural Competence in Higher
Education and Labour Market
The aim of the Soulbus project is to build social capital between HEIs and labour
market. The project enhances mutual communication and strengthens trust while
teachers and mentors are working in tandem to meet current and future
challenges of multiculturalism. The target group comes from the fields of
education, rehabilitation and social & health care. Specifically, the project will (i)
describe and share national practices related to multicultural competence and
identify good practices in the learning process of foreign students in practical
placement, (ii) develop and implement the 100 % virtually based Multicultural
coaching programme for the mentors and the teachers, (iii) produce and pilot the
tailored actions for the guidance of foreign students in each of the partner
countries and peer-learn the pilots aiming at sharing innovations and creative
solutions that can be incorporated into national curricular activities.
The project’s output are designed to achieve three aims: to improve teachers'
and mentors’ multicultural competence in order to increase the volume of
placements available to foreign students and harmonize the quality of
placements; to improve attractiveness and accessibility of the practical
placements for the foreign exchange and degree students as a part of the HEIs'
curricular activities; and to support systematic, long-term collaboration between
HEIs and working life partners.
The methodological framework is based on mentors & teachers working in pairs
as an part of iterative development cycle. The idea is to develop the Multicultural
coaching programme through repeated cycles and in small increments. The
developers (mentors & teachers) take advantage of what was learned during the
development of earlier stages. The key steps in the process start with an
analysis of the present situation and iteratively enhance the evolving programme
until it is ready to disseminate and be further exploited by partners and wider
learning audience.

Donor Health Care
This project proposes an innovative transparent European educational program
in Donor Health Care. Member states fail to conform with EU directives and
standards, while at the same time there are many differences in the quality and
practice of Donor Health Care throughout Europe. Both the Council of Europe
states on Safety, Quality and Ethical Matters Concerning Procurement, Storage
and Transplantation as well as the EC Action Plan on Organ Donation and
Transplantation emphasize high professional and ethical standards and
strengthened cooperation in Europe in education and training in this subject.
Well known institutions across Europe will combine their knowledge and
expertise for this program, thus offering a pan European uniform approach for
blood, cells, tissues and organs. This uniformity will increase the quality of the
services offered thereby raising the quantity in the supply of ‘substances of
human origin’.
A multi-disciplinary and integrated approach is needed to develop an innovative
transparent European educational programme with a strong focus on new
changes and developments in Donor Healthcare. The partners of this project
underline the necessity of a mutual curriculum and structure to sustain ‘state of
the art’ quality to face future challenges.
The consortium, with a solid track-record on latest developments, consists of a
mix of educational and working field partners. The latter will define the ‘demand’
as the educational partners will translate this demand in a high quality
educational curriculum.
All modules will be based on EU Donor Health Care knowledge, skills and
competencies. The modules offer the possibility to work with building blocks:
national institutions can adapt their own curriculum, composed of national and
European elements, offering a unique combination of knowledge and skills for
professionals. National differences are embedded in a true European context
which makes it easier to remove possible obstacles.

Curriculum for sustainable University Business Cooperation in the Tourism Sector
Tourism is one of the most prosperous economic sectors in Europe (incl. related
industries approx. 12% of Europe’s overall GDP and 20 million jobs). Especially
in rural and less developed areas it is seen as the only way for economical
development. However, tourism is a complex industry exposed to global
developments difficult to be forecasted (e.g. economic crises, demographic
changes, life style trends etc.). The sector is characterized by quick changes of
client needs as well as by an increasing shortage of skilled work force.
Therefore, professional market forecasting models leading to concrete HRD
actions (e.g. further VET measures) would urgently be needed.
Unfortunately, around 95% of all tourist enterprises employ fewer than 10 people
and have neither professional marketing nor HRD experts; they can neither
forecast market changes nor can they respond properly to them by improving
company profiles, promotion strategies or staff skills. However, appropriate
knowhow would be available at many HEI specialised on tourism management/
marketing. Unfortunately, they usually lack of appropriately defined processes
and reliable instruments for providing enterprises successfully with their
knowhow and expertise.
By linking these stakeholders with each other we will ease this problematic
situation. Therefore, following outcomes will be achieved by the project:
- CUBITUS university business cooperation model for tourism
- CUBITUS guidelines/standards for senior tourism (on this topic our model will
be tested)
- CUBITUS training course (ISO 17024 certified)
- Piloting of training course and cooperation model
- CUBITUS Green Paper for fostering university business cooperation at political
level
- Long-term implementation of CUBITUS training course at HEI curricula in
Europe for providing tourism industry continuously with CUBITUS experts
All products get published in 7 languages and in several 1000 hard copies; they
also will be downloadable from the project’s website.

EUROPEAN LEARNING SYLLABUS FOR OUTDOOR ANIMATORS
ELESA project will, through a cooperation between higher education institutions
(HEI’s) and enterprises representatives (SME’s), develop a Learning Syllabus for
Outdoor Animators.
This syllabus will enable all stakeholders to train Outdoor Animators according to
a common European Curriculum agreed by the employers. It will unable to solve
such issues as employment across Europe, mutual recognition of qualifications,
transparency and quality of training, geographical and professional mobility, in
line with notably the Lifelong Learning Program and other EU policies.
Furthermore this syllabus will be an important benchmark for HEI’s to organize
Outdoor Training programs in their curriculum at EQF level 6 or 7. The syllabus
based on the outdoor competence framework and agreed learning outcomes for
the outdoor animator can be considered as an international standard for HEI’s to
develop attuned outdoor training programs and qualifications for bachelors and

G-DRIVE: Green Development, Research and Innovation in Vehicle Engineering
The Automotive Industry in Europe seems to be in decline. Less cars are sold,
factories close, people lose jobs, the automotive industry tends to shift to “other
countries”.
So the Automotive Industry in Europe needs an integrated approach. Individual
small scale initiatives and expertise should be bundled into a more consistent
consortium from partners whose specialisation is complementary in the above
mentioned field. The present crisis in the Automotive Industry leads to a need for
innovative approaches to revive this industry in EU and to get prepared to
conquer a big market share on the raising market in emerging economies on
small scale automobiles. One also should keep the initiatives for innovation and
technological creativity in the EU in order to withstand the concurrency from Asia.
In this Joint Master in Green and Sustainable Transport people from all over the
world will be able to enrol in the programme exchanging ideas, thus tackling a bit
of the emerging harsh concurrency away.
The consortium aims at a strong involvement from Industry through cooperation
in course development, internships and thesis work.
The Joint Master will benefit the following target groups:
- Students & Young professionals

Joint European Masters in Search & Social Media Marketing
The Digital Agenda for EU2020 recognises a range of new skills that are required
to make Europe competitive in an increasingly digital world. In this project Higher
Education Institutions directly respond to this need by researching and
developing innovative training materials and ways of working more closely with
the business community. We focus our attention on the skills shortage faced by
EU enterprises wanting to systematically and intelligently exploit social media
networks and search engines for commercial advantage. We simultaneously
address the challenge faced by all Higher Education Institutions who need to
remain relevant by meeting the current expectations and future needs of their
students while fully interacting with a digitally enabled business world.
The aim of this project is to implement an EU community for the sustainable
delivery of a Joint European Masters Programme in Search and Social Media
Marketing (JEMSS). To achieve this, nine objectives and interrelated work
packages have been devised that will be undertaken by a multi-disciplinary
consortium of five Universities and two Small and Medium Sized Enterprises
(SME) organisations.
This project will develop an innovative EU masters level programme that
addresses the needs of a growing industry sector by educating the next
generation of digital marketers. The three major benefits to learners, employers
and Europe are:
1. Integration of a pan-European study and work experience - students will be
exposed to study and work environments in several European countries
2. Cutting edge curriculum and learning environment - preparing learners for
employment from the first day they join the programme and bringing benefit to
the businesses who engage in this programme through placements enabling
direct commercial access to continuously evolving curricula
3. Developing high levels of professionalism within the Search and Social Media
Marketing community of Europe and reducing incidences of poor practice

European Islands Continue Education on Resources Efficiency Virtual Gateway
Resource efficiency and youth entrepreneurship has been for a while circulated
in EU but not many organizations are aware of implications - skills required.
Furthermore the requirement to reduce the water and electricity in EU has
become compulsory and many organizations are looking to embrace efficiency to
meet this requirement not been aware of the actual skills and technology needs.
The project, taking into consideration these facts, aims to overcome this
knowledge gap by providing in partnership with relevant enterprises, continue
education delivered in virtual environment to support development and
deployment of resource efficiency, improve entrepreneurship and environmental
impacts, support and promote ideas and concepts through spin-offs based on
collaboration between University graduates and Industry. The University partners
will transfer and valorize the expertise in the learning material support and
enterprises and associations involved will inform such modules on industry
requirements, advance and employment market needs. The training material will
cover aspects related to resources efficiency (eg water, energy) waste
management, sustainable growth, etc and will be advised by mentors from the
industry. These will promote entrepreneurship, business start-ups and innovation
skills among non-traditional learners. The project will promote the transfer of
innovation from Universities to the enterprises and will support this by creating a
virtual platform that will be a gateway for communication between HE and
Enterprises on solving problems that require skills based on a open source
approach. This portal will offer also placement within the consortium SMEs for
graduates and also for developing prototypes based on HE-SME student
collaboration. The consortium includes universities, SMEs, NGOs, agencies from
7 countries. The impact of this project is provision of innovative skills and
knowledge in the resources efficiency.

Community Service Engineer
This proposal focuses on engineering as being a social undertaking and not a
pure technical undertaking. Engineering is a process that starts with
understanding people’s and/or organizational needs and ends with actually
bringing tailored products and services to these people/organisations.
A multi-campus blended learning environment will offer engineers an innovative
curriculum with a strong mix of theory and practice in life settings. The profile of
Community Service Engineer will be added to their engineering profile.
The theory will give engineers a thorough background in developing technology
for and implementing technology in the social profit sector.
For practice all partners will set up a structural partnership with the social profit
sector to detect needs for technology. Associated partners (enterprises,
chambers of commerce and local regional bodies, …) will be involved as a link to
the market per participating country.
Confrontation between social work, economics and engineering students is an
essential part of the project work (collaboration between fields of study).
Mobility (physical and virtual) will be set up for the project work. In case of
physical mobility reciprocal peer assisted learning and related assignments will
guarantee that international-intercultural-competences can be acquired by all
actors and projects can be carried out in a non-native speaker setting (language
issues).
The curriculum will gradually be built. Starting from webinars & project work that
evolve towards a postgraduate joint degree and translation of the curriculum into
undergraduate curricula.
Labour markets in European countries are in need for engineers. It has been
proven that by emphasizing the social added value of technology the younger
generation and female students in particular are attracted towards the
profession.
All university partners are committed to continue the curriculum after project
termination and invite others to join.

European Employability of Graduates in Sport
The aim of the project is to improve the employability of sports related graduates
in the EU. Youth unemployment in the EU is increasing, with some countries
experiencing unemployment of under 25 year olds at over 40%. The EU sport
sector represents a labour-intensive growth industry likely to lead to additional
employment growth. Currently its contribution in terms of employment to total
employment is 2.12%; equal to 4.46 million employees. The sector has a role in
contributing to achieving goals defined in Europe's strategy for sustainable and
inclusive growth (Europe 2020), employment (European Employment Strategy)
and the future of young people (Youth on the Move).
This study addresses the following three aspects related to employability and
lifelong learning:
1. To further understand, from the perspective of graduates, Higher Education
Institutions (HEIs) and employers the current and future needs, skills and
competencies required for graduates.
2. To develop a network of HEIs and employers to enable employers to input into
curricula.
3. To support HEIs to develop employability related courses and opportunities
within curricula.
Summary of outputs:
1. Development of six formal networks, one per partner country, of employers
and HEIs. Networks developed during the programme will be sustained. The aim
is to assess current relations, and develop and support curricular development,
and work placement opportunities.
2. Employability Intervention Toolkit: developed in partnership with employers, it
will provide EU examples of good practice and recommendations for EU based
employers to work more closely with HEIs.
3. Employability Toolkit for HEIs: developed in partnership with employers it will
provide HEIs with employability related initiatives complementary to, and/or
embedded into degree programmes.
4. Toolkits will be endorsed by national professional bodies of sport and exercise,
by employer associations and by education ministries and agencies.

Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurial Application for Transforming Education in High
Technologies
The project aims at developing entrepreneurial behaviour with both staff and
students in selected high-tech subject domains of higher education through the
use of innovative teaching methods, which encourage university-business
cooperation as well as knowledge sharing across national boundaries and
subject domains.
Trans-national and multidisciplinary collaboration is needed to ultimately
enhance employability especially in the crisis-stricken geographical areas and
disciplinary sectors of Europe. Thus the IDEATE project proposes a researchbased co-design and delivery of a European educational joint module of study,
closely interconnected with real-life entrepreneurship. Acting as a platform for
interdisciplinary co-operation among four (then eight) disciplines on master’s
level, the course will be co-delivered together with industry partners in form of a
business competition programme. The product shall be tested in two academic
cycles, within a controlled expansion of the disciplinary realm, involving further
disciplines and businesses, reached through wide dissemination and targetexploited involvement of further relevant stakeholders.
Students of different disciplines will operate as scientific-cum-creative teams
within selected modules, responding to a task set by a real-life employer. After
focused teacher training in novel entrepreneurial pedagogical approaches,
mentored student teams blend four different cultural and professional
backgrounds: Arts&Media, ICT, Health&Biosciences and Business. 'Mini' teams
co-develop innovative entrepreneurial responses to an employer-defined
problem within a blended international setting to present their application outlines
to a mixed board of specialists at the first live event. Upon winner selection, a
'super team' of all involved collaborators develops the selected concept online
towards actual real-life relevance, to finalize it within the second full-week
meeting, when a company or NGO might actually get established.

Organic Electronics and Applications
Organic Electronics is a branch of electronics that deals with conductive
polymers, plastics or small molecules. It is called ‘organic’ electronics because
the polymers and small molecules are carbon – based, like the molecules of
living things. It is a modern, state of the art technology and the founders of this
were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2000. Organic electronics is
entering its third decade as a commercial technology but in many ways is a
relatively new and emerging field. The volume of publications, the number of
journals and the volume of the implemented research demonstrate the great
potential that this technology has and the choices that offers to any scientist and
student that wish to be involved in it.
Even through the active research that is implementing around the globe, this
technology is absent from the curriculum of the majority of the Universities in any
study cycle. The proposed project has as a main objective the development of a
curriculum of courses in close cooperation with companies that in the future can
lead to a joined European MSc degree in organic electronics. The proposed
curriculum has an interdisciplinary character. For its development, academics
from Physics, Chemistry, Material Science and Electrical engineering
Departments will be involved and collaborate. Another aspect of its innovative
character is the cooperation with companies. The companies will act as
consultants to the academics during the development of the modules. Personnel
from the involved companies will continuously advise the academics about the
skills and the knowledges that a graduate from such a program should acquires
according to the market needs. Thus the cooperated companies will get more
involved with university courses to close a skills gap and ease graduates' path to
employment. The curriculum modules (15 in total) are going to be distributed
within four semesters and 120 ECTS units are going to be corresponded.

Improving Teaching Effectiveness in Chemical Engineering Education
The importance of educating engineering graduates capable of functioning as
professionals with relevant technical knowledge, but also professional skills, is
emphasized by the professional bodies, the governments and the employers
worldwide given the changing societal challenges and the critical role engineers
play in addressing these.
This consortium brings together European academic institutions and a large
number of professional body/employer organizations from these countries in
order to develop a robust assessment framework for evaluating the effectiveness
of delivery of core engineering knowledge and employability competencies.
Thus the consortium sets out the following objectives:
• Review the learning outcomes of a chemical engineering HE formation.
• Promote closer involvement of employer organizations in chemical engineering
curriculum formation.
• Establish state-of-the art in assessing the effectiveness of teaching of core
(chemical) engineering knowledge and of the development of professional
competencies required to increase graduate employability.
• Define various indicators of the effectiveness of teaching in chemical
engineering HE, share them with the community to help HE institutions to
improve their formations in chemical engineering as well as broader subject
areas.
• Investigate in more depth methods of effective acquiring employability
competencies.
• Identify the most appropriate evaluation methods and develop a robust
framework for supporting effective delivery of core knowledge and employability
competencies.
• Test the framework focusing on various pedagogic methodologies in each
geographical area.
• Promote wider exploitation of the assessment framework via a network of
associated academic partners.
The project will not only provide the tangible exploitable deliverables described
above, it will also raise the profile of engineering education and provide objective
means of recognising and incentivising excellence in teaching.

The iProfessional
The aim of the project is to build, test and then distribute a research based model
framework that will assist the Education sector and especially VET and the
Higher Education Institutions to match the curriculum of their students in (digital)
Media and Arts Studies with the professional requirements expressed by the
(international) community of media and arts businesses. This framework will
demonstrate its effectiveness and quality in a series of pilots in the participating
HEIs, as well as in other institutions that express their interest. To ensure
relevance and sustainability, the project consortium will from the onset of the
project invite interested HEIs as well as businesses and other stakeholders to
share the results and findings.

Women Innovators for Social Business in Europe
The biggest challenges of our times are looking to social innovative solutions to
boost growth and jobs, and Social enterprise is a key element of the European
social model. Social entrepreneurs are creating innovative solutions, delivering
extraordinary results to millions of people. It is crucial, therefore, to support and
promote it so as to take advantage of its growth potential and capacity to create
social value. The European economy needs entrepreneurs to foster a smart,
sustainable and inclusive growth that leads to a social economy. However there
is a marked need to improve people’s capabilities to launch social business,
create communities of social entrepreneurs and develop knowledge and skills to
this specific type of business. Whilst Europe does not have enough
entrepreneurs, there are disproportionately even fewer female than male
entrepreneurs. The EC is working with Member States to find ways to overcome
factors which discourage women from taking up entrepreneurship.
The initiative for this project starts from a need to generate innovative ideas in an
interactive community that allows women with experience and willing to start-up
socially-focussed projects to ideate and plan them as effective social businesses.
WISE will facilitate women knowledge and tools in order to become social
innovators and solve challenges in their community. Our objective is to elaborate
and extend a training programme based on cutting-edge methodologies and an
experiential pedagogical plan with a user centred perspective and to develop an
interactive e-community. Through this they will gain an overview of trends and
opportunities, the skills and competencies to innovate socially, methodologies to
design the future with creativity, the environment and support to design their idea
and business plan, a network of like-minded individuals with whom to form
teams, and visibility to potential partners, investors and supporters

EDUCCKATE - EDUcation Cultural & Creative Knowledge Alliance for Tomorrow’s
Entrepreneurs
Coordinated by University College London's centre for Applied Archeology, the project
involves 11 partners in 7 countries. It will implement an innovative, mentored internship
scheme to boost the innovation potential of HE institutions & companies specifically with a
focus on the cultural and creative sectors. The aim is to foster an entrepreneurial mind-set in
students and staff these fields of activity & promote entrepreneurship.
The cultural & creative (CC) sectors make places attractive to live in, invest in & visit; they’re
key to sustainable economic growth. Recent reductions in public funding have led to job
losses & loss of expertise in small & medium sized CC organisations (SMEs). In an insecure
economic environment, large graduate employment schemes are over-subscribed & SMEs
report an application shortage.
A new generation of entrepreneurs is needed to increase the long-term sustainability of the
CC sectors & increase flexibility for future economic changes. The project provides students
in CC majors with: access to businesses, including CC SMEs; opportunities to develop
business projects & new professional paths. It benefits HE Institutes through links with CC
businesses & businesses by partnership with specialist HE departments in order to develop
new sector specific services/products/prototypes with commercialisation potential that benefit
from state-of-the art academic research/knowledge.

E-NSPIRATION - Energy related multidisciplinary Knowledge Alliance aiming to introduce an
innovative training programme
There is a clear and pressing need for Europe`s industry to minimize its energy consumption
and to apply new learning, teaching and working paradigms such as they will be developed
during the e-nspiration project. This is the main reason why the e-nspiration Knowledge
Alliance - dealing with industrial energy saving issues – is set up.
To support innovation, e-nspiration will supplement scenario-driven requirements processes
with creativity workshops/techniques and team work approaches in order to support
innovation & invention of novel ideas applicable in the energy saving sector.
The definitive distinction between the e-nspiration project in comparison with other similar
knowledge alliances pilot projects will be that e-nspiration will follow an application driven
approach whereas the knowledge alliance will bring together professionals from energyintensive industrial sectors like the steel and paper industry with students and professors
from specialised European universities with the intention that all project participants will act in
3 different roles: a) within the role of a teacher, b) within the role of a student and c) within
the role of professional real-life solution developer during work in the industrial environments.
As leading-edge project in the area of an innovative knowledge alliance approach the enspiration project will establish itself as an international reference project in the area of a
successful university-industry cooperation to support the realisation of European climate
framework of 2020. The concept of this project is drawn up in a way which will guarantee the
successful converting of the ideas - energy-efficient engineering, CO2 free and renewable
energy technologies, more entrepreneurship thinking, etc. – into industrial working
processes.

EURL3A - European Real Life Learning Lab Alliance: EURL3A
In order to realize the European goals for reducing the emission of green-house gasses and
in order to reduce our dependency on scarce base materials and fossil energy sources one
of the most complex challenges is the transition towards a sustainable and Near Zero
Emission (NZE) built environment. In facing this challenge both the educational as the
business sector encounter following barriers in implementing sustainable and NZE building
and retrofitting technologies:
- the number of ‘technical’ students, crucial for this transition, is decreasing dramatically
- the fragmentation of knowledge necessary for this transition;
- the skills of today’s delivered students do not match with the needs of the business sector
in this field.
The EURL3A project wants to tackle these barriers by improving technical education, making
education more efficient and making it more attractive by a dynamic integration of practice
and theory by the so called Real Life Learning Lab Concept.
In Real Life Learning Labs multidisciplinary teams of students and young entrepreneurs,
under mentorship of professionals from universities and industry work on Real Life
assignments from the business sector and on developing new enterprises. During this
process relevant theoretical knowledge is educated just in time. The Real Life Learning Labs
are centred in regional knowledge alliances in which mobility and exchange programs are
active. The regional knowledge alliances are coupled as one European network of
knowledge alliances for easy accessible knowledge and research capacity and an exchange
program on an European level.
The EURL3A project develops the concept in three European countries as a start for a
European network of Real Life Learning Lab Alliances.
