He was born in 1950 in Japan. He graduated Hiroshima University, School of Medicine in 1974. After he finished residency in Pediatrics at Hiroshima University, he became a fellow of Pediatric Cardiology at Heart Institute of Japan, Tokyo Women's Medical College in 1976. After he finished a fellowship of Pediatric Cardiology, he became a Research Fellow of Pediatric Cardiology at University of California, Los Angeles in 1977. He spent 5 years at UCLA. He received a Young Investigator's Award from American Academy of Pediatrics in 1981. He returned to Japan in 1983 and became an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Cardiology, Heart Institute of Japan, Tokyo Women's Medical College. In 1993, he became an Associate Professor of Pediatric Cardiology, Heart Institute of Japan, Tokyo Women's Medical College. Since 1988, he is a chief of Pediatric Interventional Catheterization Laboratory at Heart Institute of Japan, Tokyo Women's Medical University. Since 2007, he is a chief of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology, Tokyo Women’s Medical University, Tokyo, Japan. Since 2009, He is a President of Japanese Society of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. -1-
