THE BUSINESS OF MATERIAL AND ENERGY RECOVERYY Product Recovery Technology International Technology. Recycling. Energy. PRTI Product Recovery Technologies International of Raleigh, North Carolina is the exclusive patent holder of a cost effective rubber depolymerization system for use in fractionalizing rubber and used tires into gas, steel, oil and carbon products. At PRTI, our highly efficient low temperature process was developed in a robust commercial production environment over the last nine years. This system operates below all EPA emissions limits, is completely sealed and emits no waste bi-products or hazardous vapors, which makes it suitable for use anywhere, even in populated areas. PRTI’s six chamber system processes up to 36 tons of scrap tires per day. This advanced technology is seen by the tire and rubber industries as an important element of an integrated solid waste management protocol that conserves natural resources and reduces landfill material and air pollution. Our experience in recycling science is extensive and this latest advance makes PRTI a world leader in depolymerization technology. The Scrap Tire Problem llllll The proper disposal of scrap tires is a worldwide problem and u hundreds of millions are still being stockpiled in the United S t States alone and millions are added weekly. Most of these t tires are dumped in landfills or burned for energy recovery as tire derived fuel (TDF). A small percentage are used in civil engineering projects and ground rubber applications. Tires have also been chipped and used as an asphalt foundation material as well. But in at least two instances the tires selfignited, creating serious environmental problems and clean-up expense. The PRTI system is unique in that it breaks down the tire into its original building blocks. Our continuous high volume process decomposes rubber into marketable products economically and efficiently without substantial environmental concerns - a breakthrough in modern tire reclamation. The PRTI Solution h The global community understands that dealing with solid waste by dumping it in a hole or burning it is not the most responsible method of disposal. These methods simply shift the problem into the future, leaving a legacy of pollution and waste. Landfills are closing as regulators impose ever more stringent requirements, and incineration is a dirty outdated solution in light of climate change concerns. This reality makes the PRTI system the best and only profit driven solution for scrap tire disposal currently available. PRTI Recovery Products As tires are broken down in the depolymerization chambers, they are separated into marketable components and the output is refined into these four basic product groups. Carbon hjh The PRTI solution yields carbon as a by-product that is used by industry for a variety of applications. It is most commonly an additive, which provides reinforcing properties to rubber in products like hoses, belts, rubber sheeting and other industrial applications. Our plant can produce about 5 tons of carbon per day. produces Recovered Industrial Steel Each tire we handle recovers approximately 2.5 pounds of b steel belts and bead wire made of high carbon alloy. Due to o the brass and copper coatings used, this metal is recycled t to foundries for smelting. The Institute for Scrap Recycling I Industries ranks our recovered steel as level one, which is . their highest quality rating. At full plant capacity this can yield about seven tons of steel daily. Electric & Thermal Power One of the most exciting aspects of the PRTI system is that it can be net zero to the grid when it comes to electrical power. The syn-gas produced during the process powers a gas generator that provides enough surplus energy to be sold back to the grid. This process can also recover the thermal energy to power an on-site steam turbine as well. Combustible Fuel Oil A full gallon of light oil can extracted from each 20 pound tire t the PRTI system can process daily, yielding over a million y gallons a year. Independent analysis shows our oil has very h high cetane value and provides excellent HFRR based on lube c content. Our oil has many applications in the blended fuels market and related industries.
