BOKARO AT A GLANCE
GEOGRAPHY & DEMOGRAPHY
Bokaro District, an amalgam of portions of Dhanbad and Giridih was created in the year
0
1991. Located in the sprawling and luxuriant Chotanagpur Plateau, Bokaro spans 23 29'
0
Latitude and 86 09' longitudes and occupies an area of 2861 Sq. km.
Bokaro is a small river which flows into the Konar, a tributary of Damodar. A village by the
name of Bokaro lies on the northern bank of the Konar. It is here that Bokaro Thermal Power
Station of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is located which is at a distance of 28 Kms west
of the Chandrapura Thermal Station also of DVC, on the northern bank of Damodar. The Tenughat
Dam, which is the source of industrial water for the steel plant rises on the Damodar. The Dam on
the Garga the source of drinking water for the steel city is due south of tenughat at an aerial
distance of about 27 Kms. BSL is located on the site where formerly a village by the name of
Maraphari existed. It was connected to a railway station also known as Maraphari on the Muri
Chandrapura line on the south eastern railways. With the coming up of the Steel Plant the station
was renamed as Bokaro Steel City. The Govt. Of India & Bihar and Bokaro Steel Limited at a
meeting on Sep12, 1964 decided to name the steel township as Bokaro Steel City.
The Significant Constraints
Out of the 09 Blocks and 732 villages 03 of the blocks viz- NAWADIH, KASMAR, GOMIA are
completely Naxal affected.

7. Communication Plan :Telephone / Cellular phone is available is almost all polling station along with particular of person to be
contacted which is mentioned in Vulnerability Mapping of Polling Stations chart. Polling Personnel/ Sector/
Zonal Magistrate with their cellular number will be taken well in time before deployment of those personals.
8. Counting Plan:-
The Place for storage of EVMs and polling material and places for the counting of votes are identified with
reference to standing guidelines prescribed by the commission. Proposal for approval of proposed counting
centre has been sent to the CEO. There are 14 tables for counting and sufficient staff and security
arrangements have been prepared for this act. Media centre has also been located in Sector-3, Bokaro Steel
City.
