My name is Smokey and I’m a three-year old weimaraner. I’ve been in the great care of Tina, the director of HWR, since October 2012. She’s taught me so much and has worked with me to manage my high energy. I’m thrilled to be back for my second year as Spokesdog for HWR’s 5th Annual Ghost Runners 5K Dog Run, which will be held on October 26th at Stars and Stripes Park in Oklahoma City. The Ghost Runners 5K is a great day for dogs and their humans to get out and do something together. I’ve been training hard and am looking to beat my personal best time – this will be my sixth 5K race! There will also be lots of great vendors and local businesses represented, including animal rescues from the area with adoptable dogs. It’s such a fun day for dogs and their people. This is HWR’s biggest fundraiser of the year – and I hope you can join us. Thanks to the support of people like you, HWR is able to care for me and my friends by providing medical care, food, and other necessities to all of us. And they couldn’t do it without your help – HWR supporters have saved my life and the life of my friends. You see, Heartland Weimaraner Rescue is so important to me and my puppy pals. Without them, we wouldn’t be here. Their volunteer foster families provide dogs like me with a warm place to sleep, food to eat, and people to walk, play and snuggle with – they’re the best! I was surrendered to Heartland in 2012 by my owners, after I was shot in the ear by a neighbor. The rescue provided me with a safe place to heal. I lost my right ear, but I haven’t lost my fun-loving spirit and energetic charm. I have a big personality to go with my big heart, and I’m still looking for my forever family. For this year’s race, Heartland Weimaraner Rescue has a goal of 600 runners. I hope my story inspires other humans to run with their dogs – it’s a great way to spend time together and to stay healthy! Past events have drawn approximately 1,500 spectators, including the runners. With so many people in attendance, it’s a great way to promote your business and contribute to the community. My HWR friends have put together a packet of information for you about sponsorship levels for this year’s race.
