Earning more than 1,964 college credits through McLennan Community College and Texas State Technical College dual enrollment programs, plus an impressive $11.3 million in academic and athletic scholarship offers, the graduates will attend some of the nation’s top universities, including: Harvard Duke West Point University of Virginia Wake Forest New York University University of Texas Tulane Purdue Texas A&M Brigham Young Baylor University of Alabama University of Colorado University of Tulsa Texas Christian Univ. and many more! Chris Allen MHS (PROMOTED TO ADMIN) Jeff Gasaway MHS (PROMOTED FROM A.P.) • Raised $1000,000 for the American Heart Association with the Hoops for Heart fundraiser • Contributed $500.00 to the Juvenile Diabetes Association • MMS Relay for Life team was ranked the Top School Team in • McLennan County and raised $5436.00 • Ella Whitley, Life Skills teacher, received the H.E.B. Excellence in Education Award • 8th grade teacher, Shelby Milam, received the David C. DeBoe Sponsor’s Award and was named THD Texas Teacher of the Year • Brian Vasek was named TASSP Region12 Assistant Principal of the Year • Seventy five boys performed for the prestigious 2011 TMEA Convention in San Antonio as an Invited Choir • All performing choirs received the highest honors a group can achieve at UIL Contest for the 14th year in a row • Ten 7th and 8th graders were named to the 2011 TCDA MS Honors Choir • MMS Athletes won eleven A-Team district championships out of eighteen opportunities • Track, golf, cross-country and tennis teams received individual championships RINCIPAL I D WAY IDDLE TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS Jennifer Allison • Opened the doors to a fabulous new building • Chartered a student organization, “Goodwill Ambassadors,” to help new acclimate to an unfamiliar campus • Established a new discipline management system, Safe and Civil Schools, which accrued positive results • Displayed generous spirit of community service as a campus by donating time and resources to organizations such as Food for Families, JDRF, victims of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami, Pennies for Peace, Shoes for Orphans’ Souls, and several MISD families who lost their homes to natural disasters • Wendi Kimmel was honored by one of her students as the Barnes and Noble Favorite Teacher. • Vicki Rafferty, teaching assistant for math, was recognized as MISD Extra Mile employee • Established a new PTA that has provided numerous items and activities for students and staff throughout the year. As a final support to the building they provided a $10,000 donation to the River Valley library for book purchases • Earned excellent scores on the state assessments in all subject areas and sub groups • RVI classrooms accepted Midway Education Foundation Grants in excess of $7000 in the spring of 2011 • Nine students were recognized by the Region12 Art Gallery Gala, their artwork is now framed and on display in the Region 12 Educational Service Center RINCIPAL IVER VALLEY NTERMEDIATE TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS Sarah Holland • Denise Wessler’s 5th Grade Reading Venture Class won first place in the state for News Bowl competition • Woodgate students and teachers were able to donate thousands of dollars and many man hours towards community programs such as Unicef, Juvenile Diabetes, World Relief Hunger farm, Food for Families, Komen Race for the Cure and Clean the World Soap Drive grants, Laura Cubos wrote and received two grants this year for the addition of science probes in the classroom; one grant from the Midway ISD Education Foundation and the other from the Toshiba America Foundation Grant - both grants totaled $6,000 • Many Woodgate students were recognized by their teachers for exceptional character as a part of • Rachael’s Challenge • LuAnn Waller, part of a four teacher Midway science team, was selected to participate in the NASA Reduced Gravity Flight Experience at the Johnson Space Center in Houston • 6th graders competed against River Valley Intermediate in “Name the Book” - a contest where students were expected to read, master, and recall the content of 28 books • Sara Teichelmann was selected as an MISD Extra Mile Award recipient for her dedication to students in need • • Among several successful Twenty six 6th grade students students participate in several volunteer projects within the community as part of Project Panther Pride, which was organized by 5th grade teacher, Lani Lunt Initiated Reading Buddies, a program that arranges for 6th grade accomplished readers to mentor struggling 5th grade readers - the program, organized by reading insturctional specialist, Jimmy Ross, was a success for both sets of readers. RINCIPAL O O D G AT E NTERMEDIATE TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS Nickolas Smith • Received a MISD Education Foundation grant to fund a unique project in partnership with Baylor and Waco Wetlands. All CCE students LAUNCH-4 took part in the creation of the habitat and all feel ownership and pride in this unique CCE project. • This year’s Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser exceeded the $10,000 goal to support the American Heart Association • Pounded Pennies to raise money for the victims of the Japan earthquake/tsunami • Collected over 5,000 lbs. of food for Caritas Food for Families project. • PTA organized All-Pro Dads, an event created as a way for fathers to honor their child • Received a grant from the Junior League of Waco to provide afterschool tutoring at Four Seasons apartment complex • A Health Fair was held for grades K-2 with over twenty local vendors providing healthy lifestyle information • Families and students attended “Super Readers,” a night where students engaged in fun activities and teachers were on hand to encourage give parents tips on how to encourage reading at home • Parents arrived at CCE after hours for “Amazing Technology Night” - all CCE technology was showcased in a hands-on event for parents to experience the many technology tools available at CCE • Competed in eight UIL events for the first time ever - CCE had thirty two 2nd-4th graders compete in the day long competition and at least one CCE student placed in the top six of each event • 4th graders celebrated Texas Independence with a day of all things Texas, including a chuck wagon lunch, games, and a camp fire sing along RINCIPAL LEMENTARY ASTLEMANCREEK TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS Sharron Zachry • Ranked as a TEA Exemplary School and received the TEA Title 1 Distinguished Performance Award • Significant gains were made in 2011 TAKS Math and Writing scores • HEB partnered with Hewitt and sponsored several campus activities – HEB also provided nutritional information and healthy snacks for students • Kindness and Compassion (KC) Club grew from thirty students last year to eighty students this year • Discipline referrals down 25% • Overall campus culture was positively affected by The Power of One: Rachel’s Challenge campaign –students became more engaged in community service events and discipline referrals were drastically reduced • Students and families visited Hewitt Elementary after-hours for Multicultural Night -food tasting was provided by Hewitt Elementary families from eight different countries approximately 400 people attended the event • 3rd grade students marched in the Veteran’s Day parade • Students, faculty, and parents participated in numerous public service projects including making cards for Meals on Wheels, gathering items for food pantries, gathering supplies for students in Mexico, raising money for World Wildlife Federation, Jump Rope for Heart, Happy Endings Dog Rescue, Japanese Tsunami victims, cards written for Oak Springs Retirement Center, and singing to the residents at a local nursing home and retirement center RINCIPAL EWITT LEMENTARY TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS Diane Gough • Received TEA Exemplary rating on 2010 State Assessments and received Gold Performance Commended on ELA, Reading, Writing and Math. • Experienced the Walk Around the World Culture Fair and Cultural Awareness Program with over forty two countries ‘ food, music, and dance represented by our students and their families • 3rd and 4th grade students participated in South Bosque’s first annual Career Day where parent’s came to each class and discussed their careers and what the students would need to do to get started in his or her particular career • 3rd grade students participated in a Market Day– students created and marketed an item or service and South Bosque staff members participated by being their customers • Forty-two students participated in UIL academic competition – many earned District Meet honors • Archery Team Competed in the State Tournament for the third consecutive year • 4th grade students Caroled at Waco City Hall • Displayed generous spirit of community service as a campus by donating time and resources to organizations such as Food for Families exceeding last year’s drive by 200 pounds, collecting $3,000 for Pennies for Patients, Toys for Tots, Walk for Diabetes and various recycling programs, aluminum can drive. • Established the weekly Shining STAR Student Behavior Award as a part of our Safe and Civil Schools Program – students were nominated for displaying the 5 “points” of attributes in character building (trustworthy, respectful, companionate, responsible, and cooperative) • Renovated and Refurbished Special Education Playground for our Academic Development and EPCD students • Garret Jackson, 2nd Grade Teacher, earned the Golden Apple Award and Jill Kelly 1st Grade Teacher, was awarded South Bosque Teacher of the Year RINCIPAL LEMENTARY OUTH BOSQUE TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS David Everett • Received Exemplary rating on 2010 State Assessmentsreceived High Commended ratings in reading, math and writing • Over thirty students participated in the University Interscholastic League Competition – many earned honors at the district meet • EAGLES (PTA Sponsored Enrichment Program) Students in every grade attended field trips to several locations, including the Corsicana Planetarium, Mayborn Museum, Homestead Heritage, Waco Symphony and Opera, State Capitol, and the Bob Bullock Museum • Videoconference Night at the Great Barrier Reef of Australia for all K-4 students, sponsored by the PTA • As a part of Rachel’s Challenge, the Speegleville campus started a chain reaction of kindness and compassion, by constructing a paper chain representing over 2,500 acts of kindness by students and staff • Over twenty five 4th grade students joined our Kindness and Compassion (KC) Club and led our school in several service projects, including a Christmas in a Shoe Box, a successful recycling project, and selling KC grams for the homeless • 4th grade students shared their Christmas music program with the residents at the Ridgecrest Nursing Home • Exceeded our previous JDRF fundraising record by collecting over $11,600 dollars- with this year’s fundraiser our school has raised over $50,000 total to support the Juvenile Diabetes RINCIPAL LEMENTARY PEEGLEVILLE TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS Research Foundation • The service club, Library Lord and Ladies, offered 3rd and 4th grade students the opportunity to provide reading assistance to younger students on a weekly basis and the opportunity to support the Happy Endings Dog Rescue Shelter through a blanket drive Christopher Eberlein • Received TEA Exemplary rating • Received commended ratings in reading, writing, and mathematics based on the TEA Gold Performance Acknowledgment criteria • Recognized by Caritas for “Most Pounds of Food Collected” 2010 in the School Category • Students and staff raised considerable funds and resources for community programs such as Food for Families, Walk for Juvenile Diabetes and American Cancer Relay for Life • Competed in 8 UIL events - there were 32 competitors and at least one Spring Valley student placed in the top 6 places for each event • Dads embraced the opportunity to volunteer in the school setting with the Spring Valley Watch D.O.G.S Program Dads Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Good Students) program • Hosted a “Spring Valley Health Fair” in conjunction with PTA for all students to encourage good health and nutrition • Hosted a “Technology Showcase” event for students and parents to expierence all the latest technology being used at Spring Valley • 4th grade students presented a “Living History Museum” of important historical figures RINCIPAL PRING VALLEY LEMENTARY TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS Maudie Monroe (RETIRING) O O D WAY LEMENTARY TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS Earned Exemplary TEA rating with commendations in math, reading and writing • Piloted UIL program with over forty participants who earned numerous honors • Numerous individual staff awards including Natalie Daniel—MISD Teacher of the Year; Sarah McCormick—National Green in Action Spotlight Recognition; Jackie Pike—Educator’s Teacher’s Choice Award; and Melissa Keen—Golden Apple Award from KWTX. • PTA Enrichments programs included Dennis Lee, a ventriloquist, field trips to see the Baylor orchestra, the Mayborn Museum, the Cameron Park Zoo, Killen Planetarium, Innerspace Caverns, and the Gaylord Texan Ice • Received MISD Education Foundations for various programs including 2nd grade—“Click-It or Tick-It;” on behalf of 4th grade Art & Music—“History Hunters;” and various classroom technology programs • Individual Classroom teachers received PTA Grants from the Woodway Elementary for classroom projects including Math Centers material, Literacy Centers material and technology • Kindergarten collected items for CareNet Pregnancy Center for their Christmas Service Project • Raised over $16,500 for the American Heart Association through the “Jump Rope for Heart” fundraiser • PTA Fundraisers included Great American Opportunities Cookie Dough, Mixed Bag Designs (green shopping bags,) Fall Festival, Scholastic Book Fairs and 3 restaurant nights—Sonic, Rosa’s and 3 Spoons. • Through a “Cents for Caring” campaign, students raised over $1,300 for the Red Cross Japan Tsunami Relief Fund • School-wide soda can pop-top campaign gathers thousands of pounds of pop-tops for the Ronald McDonald House RINCIPALS • Mike Cooper (RETIRING) Aaron Peña (INCOMING) TEACHING AWARDS Teaching is rewarding, literally.
