24 July 2014 Dear Parents, Construction of Indoor Sports Hall (ISH) in Westwood Secondary School To further support broad-based education, the Ministry of Education is providing schools with an Indoor Sports Hall (ISH). The ISH will allow schools greater flexibility to schedule Physical Education (PE) lessons without having to worry about the weather, and give more students the opportunity to participate actively in sports and games. PE, sports and games are integral to the holistic, well-rounded education that our schools provide. I am pleased to inform you that MOE has appointed Union Contractors (Singapore) Pte Ltd to construct a 3-storey indoor sports hall in our school. The ISH will be built on the existing basketball court that faces Jalan Bahar Road. The construction work will begin soon and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2015. During this period of time when the construction is going on, we expect some inconvenience that will arise due to the sound and dust. The school is working very closely with the contractors to ensure the safety of our students. For teaching and learning to take place effectively in the classroom, the classrooms in the blocks facing the construction site will also be air-conditioned. We have briefed our students on the construction and the safety precautions they need to take note of. We will be sending letters to the residents nearby to alert them as well.
