The sessions will give an overview of the Maths curriculum framework in Singapore and some of its core features.
They will discuss how:
1. School leaders may support their teachers, ensuring continuity of good practices and pedagogy.
2. Teachers may implement some Singapore Maths strategies in their classrooms.
Examples from PR1ME Mathematics, a maths series developed by Scholastic in collaboration with the Ministry of
Education in Singapore, will be used at these sessions.

In this full-day session, an expert in teaching Singapore maths will take a close look at the strand
for teaching number, numeration and operations from Year 1 to Year 6 in Singapore. Before lunch,
teachers will learn how:
• The curriculum in Singapore is designed
• The Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach is essential for its success
• Students’ mathematical thinking is developed

• Problem solving is central.
After lunch, teachers will learn how to use the Bar Model Method for teaching problem solving. This method is
a unique approach to representing number relationships through pictorial representation to make the problem
visual for the students. It has been proven to be one of the key strategies in raising the standard of mathematics
in primary schools in Singapore.
Examples from Scholastic’s PR1ME Mathematics will be used throughout this workshop.
Workshop Fee: $100.00 per person. Lunch not included.
