Jay Wise Session Presenter Bio: Jay Wise has taught High School and Middle School, with experience in Intervention Tutoring and specialization in integrating technology into the curriculum. He has led technology-based Social Studies presentations at statewide conferences with the Ohio Middle School Association, Ohio Council for the Social Studies, Ohio e-Tech and regionally at the NEOTECH Conference. Jay presently serves as a Network Regional Leader for Social Studies with the Ohio Department of Education and has led several presentations in Northeast Ohio regarding the transition to Ohio’s New Learning Standards over the past few years. Overview: Learn how to deepen student learning and strengthen your understanding of Ohio’s New Learning Standards (NLS) in Social Studies. Using the Ohio Department of Education’s Quality Review Rubric, this four hour hands-on session will help develop a lesson and/or unit incorporating technology and the Alignment to Depth, Key Instructional Shifts, Instructional Supports and Assessment incorporated in the New Learning Standards. Participant Materials Needed: Access to ODE’s Quality Review Rubric Current lesson(s) and/or unit sketch to analyze Your own Tech Device (laptop, tablet, smart phone) is suggested but not required o Optional smart device (phone, tablet, etc.) download of the app NearPod (free from the Google or Apple App stores) Technology components include: NearPod, Google Docs, Poll Everywhere, Text to Speech apps (Voki, Go Animate), Fakebook, Glogster Session Sketch: 60 minute overview of the Quality Review Rubric and examples of curricular and technology alignment to the NLS. 30 minute development of lesson(s) or unit sketch that incorporates Quality Review Rubric components of Alignment to Depth, Instructional Shifts, Instructional Supports and Assessment. 30 minute share session on teacher enhanced lessons 90 minute session to create technology-enhanced lessons reflecting instructional shifts, instructional supports and assessment through the Quality Review Rubric. 30 minute share session on technology-enhanced lessons.
