His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa recognized him as the third incarnation of Terchen Barway Dorje and it was under his tutelage that Rinpoche received his spiritual training. Rinpoche has lived in the U.S. for over thirty years and has been teaching extensively in upstate New York and Dharma centers across the country. His Eminence Zurmang Gharwang Rinpoche was recog nized as the 12th incarnation in the Gharwang lineage by the 16th Karmapa, receiving many empowerments and transmissions from him and other eminent teachers. The supreme lineage holder of the Zurmang Ear Whispered Lineage, he was a top scholar at the Nalanda Buddhist Institute and has taught extensively all over the world. He teaches in English with a sense of humor Lama Tashi Topgyal is from Raktrul Monastery in eastern Tibet. He received empowerments, reading transmissions, and explanations regarding the treasure texts of Terchen Barway Dorje from Lama Karma Thupthen, the main disciple of the Second Bardor Rinpoche. After many years of study, Lama Tratop went into a nine-year-nine-month retreat. He came to the U.S. in 2003 to teach at our center. Lama Jim Kukula took refuge from Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche in 1982 and completed a threeyear retreat in 1996. He studied physics in college and then spent twenty years working in the semiconductor industry as a software developer. He is interested in how the idea of interdependent arising sheds light on issues in the ethics of technology. Naomi Schmidt took refuge from His Holiness the 16th Karmapa in 1974 and has been practicing dharma since then. She has taught meditation since 2002. Tom Schmidt began studying and performing music in 1957. He studied with jazz masters Charlie Haden and Dave Holland and taught music at Naropa University. His Tibetan musical studies have been guided by Lama Tashi Dhondup, Lama Yeshe Namdag, and Umdze Lodro Samphel, the principle chant master of Rumtek Monastery. Zoran Josipovic , PhD is a research scientist at NYU Cognitive Neurophysiology Lab, Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, and an adjunct faculty for cognitive and affective neuroscience in the Psychology Department, New York University. He co-founded the Margam series of talks at NYU that showcase current research on meditation and consciousness. He is also the founding director of Nonduality Institute, an independent center for the science and practice of nondual meditation. Kunzang Palchen Ling Founded by the Third Bardor Tulku Rinpoche.
