“As a member of AEGPL’s
energy efficiency and energy
taxation taskforces, I am able to
ensure that our business is aware
of and able to adapt to potential
opportunities and threats from
new Regulations and Directives.”
Armando Viçoso, Repsol
The EU has never been more influential
and energy policy has never been
so important. Climate change, air
pollution, and security of supply
policies are among many policy areas
that have a direct impact on the LPG
industry. All AEGPL members are kept
up to date with the latest developments
that can directly or indirectly affect
their businesses. AEGPL members also
contribute to the LPG industry’s official
positions through AEGPL’s various
taskforces and working groups
Case Study
The Energy
Efficiency Directive
Did you know that unlike other
energy sectors, the LPG sector is not
necessarily subject to costly energy
efficiency schemes that obligate
companies to reduce the amount of
energy its customers use?
AEGPL successfully argued that due
to the limited size of the LPG sector
and many of the companies working
in it, that applying the scheme to LPG
would cost too much for both the
consumer and the LPG company.
This alone could potentially save the
European industry millions of Euros.
AEGPL promotes
the safe use,
transport, and
storage of LPG
AEGPL is the LPG industry’s
representative at EU level meetings, as
well as at the United Nations Economic
Commission for Europe. AEGPL works
with authorities in Brussels and Geneva
to ensure that all technical and safety
regulations are both workable and fit
for purpose, and AEGPL members enjoy
the opportunity to put forward their
positions on regulations.
AEGPL’s technical coordination group is
the European industry’s key forum for in
depth analysis of technical regulations
and standards, and corresponding
formulation of positions. It also
oversees a number of working groups
on technical topics.
Sharing
Knowledge and
Experiences in
the LPG industry
AEGPL is a hub for information,
sharing of experiences, best practices
and lessons learned. Through a
combination of our dedicated team
and the AEGPL network’s knowledge,
experience, and expertise, we provide
our members with information on a
wide range of topics.
The AEGPL Helpdesk: A few examples
“I have a meeting with a
government official to urge
support for Autogas. What EU
legislation backs this up?”
“I would like to know more about “How does the standard on
initiatives to promote LPG for use cylinder labelling apply to
composite cylinders?”
in boats?”
“I heard that the EU legislation on
oil stocks applies to my company.
Is that right?”
AEGPL’s team of policy and technical
experts also help members with
lobbying actions in their own countries
“70% of new laws are now
formulated in Brussels – the
AEGPL Team is not only our
eyes and ears in Brussels, but
also assists us with regulatory
challenges we face here in the UK
by providing examples from other
European countries”
Rob Shuttleworth, UKLPG

Underground Parking for
LPG vehicles in Portugal
Until earlier this year, Portugal was
one of the few countries which still
had legislation preventing autogas
cars from entering underground
parking areas. AEGPL staff visited
Portugal to give a briefing to our
media, as well as producing a
position paper to explain that such
laws do not exist in almost any other
European country, and that uptake
of the Autogas market in Portugal
will be good for both citizens and the
environment. These actions have
been an excellent contribution to
our campaign- which was ultimately
successful in changing the law.
